About Oh, Ranger! ParkFinder

"Even if it weren’t free, Oh, Ranger! ParkFinder would be well worth downloading." - Bob Tedeschi, The New York Times

"Oh, Ranger! is your virtual guide to the outdoors — you fire up the app, plug in your location and either see which parks are near you or find an activity you want to do to filter out the parks that let you do it. It's awesome." - Gizmodo

"After you enter your Zip code or city and select an activity — bird watching, say, or boating — this app will direct you to nearby national parks, state parks, or national forests that suit your needs. The app, which works on iPads and iPhones, also provides directions, weather, and lodging suggestions."
- Inc. Magazine

This is a great app... if only it worked as it should. Instead, it sends you up tiny winding roads that end up in the middle of nowhere at least 100 miles from where your destination really is. Three times now it has sent us to "nowhere" instead of our chosen park. Upon asking locals for directions we've discovered we're not just "lost" we're hundreds of miles from where the real park is located. I've wasted tanks of gas and days off trying to "reach my destination" only to find Oh Ranger is out of its mind! Yesterday we ended up 191 miles in the opposite direction of the park we chose (which was supposed to be 31 miles from my house). I deleted the dang app! Grrr!

Told me about places I didn't even know were nearby, and there's a decent amount of info. But at least one of the places it said was near me, actually wasn't - however when I contacted them, I got a very fast response saying they would fix it. Info shown includes links to the official website when available; it would also be cool if there was a link to do a web search for the same place, to quickly get more info, photos, etc.

This used to be such a great app - What happened? None of the buttons work when trying to select specific activities (i.e. camping, hiking, etc.) I've uninstalled and reinstalled and still have the same problem.

App provides locations of national parks in the USA. No updates in over 4 years, though? Seriously folks???

Great app but doesn't help me in Canada.

It has potential, however it doesn't show a lot of nearby parks. The app itself is also very buggy.

Would not load on Moto G4. Black screen.

Still causes a small amount of confusion if I leave a page I was reading. If I go back to that same page, it looks blank. Took me a while to realize I had to scroll up to see words again. Between this app & geocaching we have all the entertainment we need to use our 40'er and see the small town wonders & back roads of america. Still can't leave out a mention of Roadside America. Have used it for 20+ years to see what other travelers have seen. THX, OH,RANGERS for all your efforts & for being there to share.

Samsung S7: I read some reviews before installing. Love the info this app gives but would be REALLY nice for RVers to be able to search for parks with campgrounds while on the road.

This is the app I use most often, I'm severely handicapped, but still hike, and such as my broken back allows, this app is one of the most informative I've found.

Super helpful app. Only thing I hope they fixed was the constant crashing, but other than that, this is my go to app for anything outdoors!

Just getting started with Oh Ranger and RVing, so anything that is as simple as this program was to install is great. See you on the road.

I need to see parks for RV camping while we travel and the app still shows Parks that don't offer camping even though I've applied the filter.

I just downloaded this app and so far, it does not pick up on current location when my location on phone is activated. The app picks up the zip code but sometimes you don't always know the zip code. Seem to need some improvement. I will work with it for awhile but may end up uninstalling it.

The only improvement I would make is to add a star gazing activity category.

Located all the nearby parks that I could think of and a few more. LOTS of detailed info, maps, directions, links to nearby attractions etc. I'm not fond of the ad area at the base of the pages, but the ad splash screen on starting is a pain. Found one (big) error in many pages of nearby locations. It would be wise to double check location. Screen rotation would be helpful, as would be text re-sizing. Narrow fixed width info area is annoying.

R70%
by R####:

Yes the app can direct you where you want to go but if it is say a fishing trip it should be more specific about the species and the restrictions. I for one know that there are only certain times of year to fish Salmon but they are not mentioned here.

Thank you so much for this database! Don't know why people think they have to donate. It clearly states Ford will donate to organization of your choice.

Told me a campground was 14 miles away... ended up being 51 miles away plus i have to keep force closing it on my phone.

Absolutely the first app that has completely locked up my Asus tf300. Click on get directions and the tablet locks up. It's also portrait mode only. Uninstalling.

The iOS version can list local parks in your area also (not necessarily state parks). Why exactly is this feature missing in this version? That's a feature that I find more useful, personally.
