About Epilepsy Journal

Epilepsy Journal is an app which allows you to quickly document daily variables concerning your epilepsy, such as seizure triggers, types etc. The information you provide is organized into easy to read graphs which allow for quick visualization of your individual epilepsy trends and patterns overtime. This app can serve as a valuable communication aid, by allowing you to generate a straightforward and professional report which can be shared with your physicians.

In general, we hope that this App will allow you to:

1) track epilepsy trends and patterns over time
2) objectively determine effectiveness of your epilepsy treatments
3) improve success of doctors appointments

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder which affects 1 in 26 people worldwide. It can have a relapsing, remitting, and unpredictable course. Treatment of epilepsy can be frustrating, and has been accurately referred to as being similar to the popular “whack a mole” game. Whether your epilepsy is mild or severe, refractory or controlled, it is critical to objectively and consistently monitor certain factors such as number of seizures, seizure triggers, AED drug or ketone levels, and other vital information. Keeping a detailed epilepsy journal will allow you to quickly notice any changes to your epilepsy, as well as provide you with impartial evidence as to whether your epilepsy treatment is truly effective or losing effectiveness over time.

App Features:
- Easy to use
- Record seizure details (as much or as little as you like)
- Visual representation of data
- Generate reports
- Keep track of medications with reminders
- Customizable to fit your individual epilepsy
- Full version completely FREE with NO ADVERTISEMENTS

Our Story/ Mission:

Our daughter Olivia is our inspiration for this app. Olivia has a refractory and severe epilepsy which began at age 1. Once Olivia´s epilepsy started we were advised by our physicians to keep a written epilepsy journal, in order to track trends and treatment response overtime. Although the journal was helpful in allowing us to objectively monitor the effectiveness of her epilepsy treatments, it was very time consuming and tended to be disorganized; As well, the hundreds of pages of notes did not help us when it became most critical to quickly and accurately summarize months worth of seizure history, (for example during emergency hospital visits or follow up appointments). During our experience navigating the neurology health care system, we found accurate and effective communication to be a key factor in successfully working with doctors and achieving ideal seizure control.
We created this app as a free and simple way to monitor your epilepsy; track trends and patterns, objectively determine effectiveness of seizure treatment overtime, and improve success of doctors appointments.
Since epilepsy contains dozens of ever changing variables, we decided to organize data into simple visuals which demonstrate seizure trends and patterns over a time span of months to years.
Our epilepsy journal allows you to quickly document all the important variables concerning your epilepsy, and to generate a simple and easy to read report to print out or email your doctors.
We hope that this app enables you to grasp a better understanding of your own individual epilepsy, and that it empowers you as an effective communicator and advocate within your epilepsy health care team.

Really great app, there could be some additions, maybe a medication chart where you can put the exact time you take your medication at each time - we are not ALWAYS on time, but we try. It would also be nice to see on the chart what type of seizures are happening and when? Maybe you can designate a colour to the different types you have, and on the graph, the different colours will show up??

This app has really helped us keep track of daughter's seizures. But for the past month or so it will not let us generate a report. It says pdf viewer not installed. It's really frustrating. Have installed all the different pdf apps I could find and still won't work!

If you or a loved one suffers from Epilepsy, you NEED this app. I love the dynamic data it provides and the presentation looks great! I'm noticing something that may be a bug. While in calendar view, some days appear blank when seizures have been recorded and show in the data. Yesterday I documented 6 events, but cannot make any edits to them. I often enter erroneous activity while in a postictal haze, so a quick way to get to individual seizures would be nice. I'm very grateful for this app and have gained a remarkable understanding of my various epilepsies. Thank you Olly Tree, you've truly helped improve my condition. The scalable charts added in the recent update are very convenient and the reminders ensure I take timely doses of AEDs. The ability to add photos of medication or prescription is a nice touch. I also enjoy the added themes, a flat (non-shiny) looking seizure button would match nicely and imo, look better as a widget.

It won't save changes to my seizure list, so I have to put in different types of seizures every time one of those seizures happens. Otherwise, though, the app is good.

After having an issue with notifications, an update sorted it. I did find that if I tried changing the dosage, the notifications failed. I rectified it by deleting the notifications and starting again

My son has seizures with no warning and he stops breathing. This app has been so helpful! I love that u push 2 buttons and it starts the timer! This makes it so much easier for me to see how long the seizures last and an exact time that it happened! I also love that it has trend graphs! So helpful when you are trying to figure out triggers or trying to tell the dr! Love this app!!

This app is absolutely wonderful for parents and caregivers of children with epilepsy. Our 3 year old son was recently diagnosed with Complex Partial Seziures and this journal has made this journey quite a bit easier. All information is kept neatly on the front screen. It is easy to go back and record seizures, types, and triggers after they have happened. The reports are always generated flawlessly and very effortlessly. This application is going to be a great help in identifying the main triggers of his seizures and the time of day they most occur. We have only been using it a week and it has made me feel more comfortable in understanding this horrible disease. I would like to thank the developers of this application for putting their time and effort into this beautiful, helpful, application AND Best of of all offering it for free. God Bless.
