BaconReader for Reddit for Android
Used to be good, but now other apps are much better and streamlined. Crashes often while loading articles even after clearing cache etc. Ads pop up occasionally even after paying for pro. Do yourself a favour and get a better app. I recommend sync pro for the UI and customization.
Annoying that the paid for version sometimes shows ads if the internet connection isn't great on start-up - always loads the ads fine though! The new YouTube link highlighting is very good though, a welcome new feature. Other than that a very good app, used to using it for several years but have tried other apps, and while this is the only one I've paid for, is definitely among the best!
I understand you need to show ads. That's fine. It's just if I close an ad which is at the bottom of the screen, a new one will pop up after less than a minute, even if I haven't changed thread. Update: well over a year later, and this has still not been fixed which is a real pity as it is a great app other than this persistent annoyance
Oh goodness bacon reader, why design an app like this and have my spot lost when I switch to check another app? I'll be reading an interesting post and switch to my internet to do something and come back to my home page. This is as terrible as IG doing that. Would have 4 5 stars if not for this horrendous feature.
Poor support and plagued with issues. Constantly have ads reappear even after purchasing the pro version. Developers are slow to respond to issues. Pictures from imgur fail to load often. Gifs don't even work in the app currently. Reddit video links have no sound. Tons of better more functional options out there.
You can't collapse comments individually and users have been asking for this for at least 6-years. So obviously customer support is lacking. Also, the app overall is fairly clunky. No swipe features to make voting easier. What I do like is you can swipe from story to story. Overall, without being able to collapse comments - this app is not for me.
This app used to be great but each update for the past year or so has made things worse. First the mode where you could fullscreen swipe through image topics was removed. Then Reddit videos don't have any volume capability. Now gif links 404 unless you open them in your browser. Kills the usefulness of this app
Really great app. I use it enough to warrant upgrading to the paid version which I did. Only two problems I see: sometimes gfycat links take forever to load or just don't and v.reddit does not play sound. Both pretty minor as I can just open in browser.
Edit 2: no signs of hope, ads still reappear. Doesn't need to be like this :(. Edit: Yet again, after this recent update, ads appear again. Still without fail, every time this app updates, ads reappear. I paid ages ago to remove them, and for the longest time it worked fine. Restarting the phone sometimes works, and then sometimes it doesn't. There's no option to "restore purchases" either.
Why can you not hide /r/friends and /r/popular from the subreddit list? Some people use it and some don't, and we should have the ability to remove it. I realize that it is a reddit feature, but I shouldn't be forced by baconreader to have it on my list. I would like to keep only the subreddits I chose, otherwise it's just cluttered. Really annoying because the default reddit app doesn't even put it on there.
Since a few weeks ago, when I open a post I no longer see the title of the post on the top. There I don't see the subreddit and username either. Please revert this change or at least give the option to show it again. This ruins a perfectly fine app for me.
I have an older version running because I hate the changes they made. When I made the switch from alienblue on ios, bacon reader was the only one who had the swipe feature I liked. I even paid for the pro version. My old copy is slowly decomposing, but I won't update until they bring back that feature. I'll change my review at that time as well
Great for flipping through content and browsing as a user. Never used moderator actions. But it doesn't support reddit's image or video services very well. Often times images or video on v.reddit will fail to load.
Love this app, been using it for years, but readability just stopped working. Is there going to be a replacement for this service included in the app in the future? Edit: now v.reddit posts have trouble loading. The notes on the latest release say this is fixed, but I still have trouble.
This used to be my favorite app. Since the last update it's been super buggy. Takes me back to the Front Page every time I minimize and then bring the app back. Very frustrating.
Edit* Apparently Reddit is requiring people to reset password and that's why it was down. The app is great again. 11/20/2017 Currently an Error HTTP 400 Bad Request. You cannot load anything or see anything.
I've used BaconReader for the past couple of years without issue. I paid to go ad free a couple of weeks ago and it crashes quite often now. It crashes when opening imgur links, videos and even when browsing threads.
App used to work. Since the apps been updated when I click back it takes me back to the front page rather than back one level. Frustrating if you want to o use subreddits
This is my favorite apo to brows reddit on. It's sleek, simple and effective. However, every two minutes it crashes. If a page takes too long to load it crashes. Half way through typing, it crashes. Sometimes it will fully load a page, I'll be reading, then out of nowhere, it crashes. It has been like this for a very long time, please focus on making the damn thing stable.
Landscape at last! As we all know the official Reddit app is tablet unfriendly, no landscape mode! So far no complaints. A few issues, but not Bacon fault, me learning the app functions. :-) Icing on the cake would be to incorporate the graphics that individual subreddits use for there layouts...if that is possible?
Love the app but since this morning, alot of sub pages that have either Gifs or NSFW Pictures and posts keep giving me a 404 Error screen. Get some problems on r/pics and Jokes etc.
I loved this app. Then the search started to act funny. The_donald pops up all the time. I search for 1 subreddit (that I know exists), it doesn't populate. But after Refreshing 7-17 times, it pops up again. I thought it was my phone(benefit if the doubt). Got a new phone, and it's still happening.
I truly loved this app and used it on several phones. Now though with the new update I am very disappointed. Like others mention the ads feel much more glaring. I preferred to have them just sit at the bottom not be a part of my feed. I also preferred having my top bar be static or hidden. The way it pops out and hides automatically is annoying. Also the color schemes now are either too dark to read or looks like Facebook which I don't like. I really wish I could have my old app back. It was my favorite.
Good app overall. The for navigating posts and comments is intuitive but an update is required for settings. Sometimes videos and gifs don't load for whatever reason so there is definitely room for improvement.
Awesome app. Only problem I've found is you cannot purchase gold from the app. Like six users have missed out on gold gifts from me because the screen won't load.
Certainly better than Reddit's own app, and ties directly to it. Downside in my opinion is not being able to view like a Slideshow like the Alien Blue app offered. Great product.
External links cause crashing extremely frequently. Absolutely can't take it anymore, switching to another app. Galaxy S7E
Edit: I removed root access and reset my phone, everything is working normally again now, must have been something on my phone that was the whole problem, thanks for the response though :) Great app but for some reason no longer working, can't switch accounts, can't view comments, cant view my profile Etc. But for some reason I can still browse subreddits and open links. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing data and cache, reading my accounts but nothing seems to be working. Please fix, this is the best Reddit App there is :(
Hardcore lurker, and rarely post. This app does everything I need, finding and favouring subs is easy as can be and havent had any problems whatsoever with baconreader in the past couple years. Did well enough to get me to rate it so 5/5
Turns out reddit locked my account until I changed my password. Maybe add a feature that let's us know if our account is locked?
It's crashing a lot on lollipop, and I have to restart scrolling, which is a pain when I'm 200+ posts down. I know fixing these things takes time, but in the meantime can you add an option to save your place when scrolling every few minutes or something so it's not as inconvenient when it crashes?
Never had a problem with it on my galaxy s5 or my G2. I get to be lazy while I work. It has been crashing once in awhile til the problem is fixed 3 stars
Ive had this app for years and always loved it. I think I've probably tried every other Reddit app, even the official one, and nothing compares. It's not just because I'm used to Bacon Reader either. The UI is so easy to use and manage, organized and everything is easy to find and do. If I ever use Reddit on PC or laptop I use Google extension for Reddit experience, and it's almost like having Gold, some of the same benefits. And this app has the same benefits as well. I've never had issues with this app, no freezing, nothing. Great job guys!
Paid for the ad free version through the app and now there are ads. I see there is a separate premium version now. Seems like they are trying to steal my money and force me to pay for their new app. Very disappointing.
Disclaimer: Baconreader is my all-time favorite Reddit browsing application. Unfortunately, it causes a very loud alarm at random when running in the background; the alarm itself sounds like a fire-alarm and is louder than the native system alarm clock on the loudest setting. The alarm is a series of prolonged beeps. I was able to isolate the app as the culprit by swiping close the app while the alarm was ringing. Google advised that this is usually the case with third party apps when Android receives updates. As luck would have it, the alarm has only sounded while at home or with headphones in. This happening at work, a funeral, or any otherwise quiet setting would be quite frustrating. I will need to limit my usage until I know this has been looked into and resolved by the devs.
I've used reddit is fun for a few years, but it has become very unstable lately and kept crashing. Bacon reader has been great so far.
Everything is fine and dandy except the inbox/mail system. I hate it. I'm gonna have to switch sadly
I was using the official Reddit app but it gave me a lot of problems. Baconreader is a much better app.
Much better UI than the default Reddit app. Ads can get a bit annoying, but nothing obtrusive.

I love having an android phone again, specifically the Note 8. That being said this app is totally lacking. The Apple version is so much more user friendly. This takes a step back for me. I'm a heavy redditor, I miss the ease of use of the Apple version. Tis my only complaint.
