About Child Rescue Ireland Alert

Child Rescue Ireland Alert (CRI Alert) is a system that enables An Garda Síochána to seek the assistance of the public where a child has been abducted and there is a reasonable belief that there is an immediate and serious risk to the health or welfare of a child. A CRI Alert will only be launched when all the following criteria exist.

· The child is under the age of eighteen (18) years

· There is a reasonable belief that the child has been abducted

· There is a reasonable belief that there is an immediate and serious risk to the health or welfare of a child

· There is sufficient information available to enable the public to assist An Garda Síochána in locating the child

If the above criteria are met, alert information is assembled for distribution to the public via several media, including but not limited to: Radio, Television, Social Network Sites and Electronic Road Signs. This information may include descriptions and pictures of the missing child, the suspected abductor, and a suspected vehicle along with any other information available which may be valuable in identifying the child and suspect. Only An Garda Síochána can initiate and release CRI Alerts for initial distribution. The CRI Alert message encourages the public to look for the abducted child or suspected offender. If you see the child, suspected abductor, or vehicle fitting the CRI Alert description, immediately call 112/999 and provide An Garda Síochána with as much information as possible. For further information on the CRI Alert system please see www.garda.ie

This is fantastic, but does a notification appear on your phone when an alert is issued? If not, it would be great to include this - it could by default be a silent notification that appears in your status bar, with the option to have sound on it. Without a notification, you would only be prompted to look at the app having heard about the alert elsewhere which sort of defeats the purpose of the app - so I imagine there is a notification - it would be great if the app explains how the app works and not just the CRI system.

by M####:

Great idea and should be on every smart phone in Ireland by default. There should also be a prompt to update your childs info every 6 months.... Kids grow fast!! One small issue, I've been unable to add a photo for my child. The app crashes when I try.

I70%
by I####:

If only one child is helped this app will have served it's purpose.

M70%
by M####:

Great idea but there only seems to be a sample alert on mine, any one else ?

U70%
by U####:

Got the first report tonight, go to open the app and it crashes as soon at it starts to open.... Update 10 minutes later... Alert was cancelled and works fine now. Possible overload of the system I'm not sure but may want to be looked into. Will leave as 1 star until the message is seen so you are aware of the issue

X70%
by X####:

Garda is not actually using it so it's useless altough a good idea. I read of missing kids on the papers how it comes they are not on CRI ?

Y70%
by Y####:

Wtf where is the info for the 15 year old from cork presumed to be in Dublin, this is just a callous way to steal information from peoples phones, and how dare you ask people to upload info about their own kids

U70%
by U####:

Just download it. Never know when we can help or need help but this app helps us, and more importantly our kids.

Y70%
by Y####:

There has been about 5 teens missing the last week, yet none put on the app

App has been active how long and the 1st time It was used it crashed. Now I can't post it to facebook or share anywhere else. Get it sorted

T70%
by T####:

Won't post to Facebook anymore - says the app isn't set up for it. Also, please remove the exclamation mark when the missing child notification shows, it makes it look less serious.

Hi everyone, I helped to develop the app in conjunction with An Garda Siochana and the Vodafone Ireland Foundation. Your comments are very encouraging. Just to answer your questions... There will be a push notification to your phone when the Gardai issue an alert but at present there is a placeholder in so you will know what to expect. Twitter sharing will be in the next upgrade so watch this space. The Gardai will send a push notification once a year to remind you to update your child's details.

This is the one thing to make sense in the crazy land that is Ireland. Dont just read reviews download this app to your smart phone ASAP. Lets keep our children safe in all possible ways and if abducted get the alerts out there. Well done to Students Gardai and Vodafone.

Perhaps AGS should look into more apps to help in policing?

It's good to know that Vodafone is making money advertising on a govt app

App worked fine when I first installed it when the app was first released. Thankfully haven't needed to use it since but last weekend when a mother & child went missing Got 8 notifications after they had been found safe and none of them opened. All crashed the app. It's an important app so hopefully you can sort it out soon. Good luck

Shocking bad. Constant notifications, yet app wont open to get any details. Great idea but possibly the worst executed app I've seen!!

X70%
by X####:

Extremely buggy. Got 10-15 notifications this evening for one child that had already been found by the time the alert had been sent. On top of that the app force closes vast majority of the time. Given the simplicity of the app, reliability shouldn't be hard to achieve. :/

Like the others have been saying it's a great idea but nothing on it works and it just keeps force closing. Also if it's not the garda who run this app then who is it?

T70%
by T####:

Garda is not actually using it so it's useless altough a good idea. I read of missing kids on the papers how it comes they are not on CRI ?

got an alert, checked the app but it kept crashing...defeats the purpose in need of bug fixing and updating four non imperial users.
