Sheikh Mishary bin Rashid bin Gharib bin Muhammad Alafasy (born in Kuwait on September 5, 1976) is a Kuwaiti preacher, imam of Quran and nasheed artist Sheikh Syahrani bin Abdul Ghaf bin Muhammad Alafasy. He is also known as Abu Rashid (Arabic: أبو راشد) (father of Rashid).

Life and career alafasy:
Mishary Alafasy is recognized for his beautiful voice and unique recitation of the Qur'an. Many readers came to imitate the way of reading. He studied the Qur'an at the Al Qur'an High School at the Islamic University of Madinah (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). He memorized the entire Qur'an in two years from 1992 to 1994 and later learned to specialize in a ten-fold reading of the Qur'an. He has impressed a large number of defenders of the Qur'an with his reading.

Mishary Al Afasy is the Grand Mosque Imam (Kuwait), and every Ramadan he leads the Tarawee Prayer at this mosque. He very often leads Tarawee prayers in the UAE and other neighboring countries in the Persian Gulf. In 2007, he visited two mosques in the United States: the Islamic Center of Irvine (ICOI) in California and the Islamic Center of Detroit (ICD) in Michigan. Appreciation and recognition:
On October 25, 2008, Mishary was awarded the first Arabic Oscar Creativity by the Arab Creativity Union in Egypt. The event was sponsored by Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa in recognition of Mishary Alafasy's role in promoting Islamic principles and teachings. Al-Afasy was chosen by the reader to become the Best Koran Reader in the Read.com Readers Choice Award in 2012.
