Secara terminologi, ruqyah terkadang disebut pula dengan'azimah. Al-Fairuz Abadi berkata:"Yang dimaksud'azimah-'azimah adalah ruqyah-ruqyah. Adapun makna ruqyah secara etimologi syariat adalah doa dan bacaan-bacaan yang mengandung permintaan tolong dan perlindungan kepada Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala untuk mencegah atau mengangkat bala/penyakit. Terkadang doa atau bacaan itu disertai dengan sebuah tiupan dari mulut ke kedua telapak tangan atau anggota tubuh orang yang meruqyah atau yang diruqyah. Kondisi Ruqyah abu Shar'eeyah:

1) itu harus dengan pidato Allah, nama dan atribut, atau pidato Rasulullah (saw)
2) itu harus dalam bahasa Arab, atau apa yang diketahui artinya dalam bahasa lain.
3) untuk percaya bahwa sesungguhnya Ruqyah memiliki manfaat tidak dengan sendirinya, tetapi obat dari Allah.
4) tidak meruqyah utama Junub (junub) atau di tempat yang tidak dibolehkan melakukan ibadat yaitu makam, Kamar mandi, dll.

The terminology, sometimes called also dengan'azimah ruqyah. Al-Fairuz Abadi said: "The dimaksud'azimah-'azimah is ruqyah-ruqyah. While ruqyah are the verses of Al-Qur`an which was read to the people affected by various diseases with the hope of a cure." (See Al-Qamus al-Muhith on material ???)

The ruqyah etymologically meaning Shari'a is prayer and readings containing a plea for help and protection to Allah Almighty to avert or lift reinforcements / disease. Sometimes prayer or reading it is accompanied by a blow from the mouth to the palm of the hand or limb of people concerned with or diruqyah. Shar'eeyah ash Ruqyah conditions:

1) it must be with the speech of God, the name and attributes, or the speech of the Prophet (saw)
2) it must be in Arabic, or what is known meaning in other languages.
3) to believe that the real Ruqyah have no benefits by itself, but the medicine of God.
4) is not concerned with the major state of impurity (junub) or in places that are not allowed to perform worship that tomb, bathroom, etc.
