About Shelf Life

Note: This is a beta version of a class project.

Shelf Life is dedicated to keeping food fresh. Whether your food is opened or not, on the shelf or in the freezer, Shelf Life provides information about the life span of foods in different conditions.

Look up information by browsing through the database or scanning its bar code, and check to see if your foods are still fresh. Keep track of your groceries and receive notifications when items are about to expire.

The team hopes that this app will reduce food waste and encourage users to use their food when it is about to go bad. We want our customers to keep track of the foods they purchase, so we have kept our design and usability simple to attract more users.

The app won't let me add food with the barcode, crashes each and every time.

I gave it a chance.

I spent a lot of time putting in all my food, but it didn't save a single one. It's a good concept though.

Z70%
by Z####:

Will not let me open scanner, crashes every time. Can not add food, doesn't save anything. Too bad, I thought it was a good idea, saw it on the food network.

Z70%
by Z####:

If the data is collected and input into this, this app is a great idea. It might be good to have a way for user to rate or mark information for accuracy. What if crowd sourcing could be used to add info as well, Wikipedia style? Any updates should be reviewed before added though

Z70%
by Z####:

Needs a way to input items that don't exist in the internal database. The database should be a reference only, not the only interface to add items. The look and feel of the app is great.

I really want to use this app. Others like it don't give you expiration dates, they ask for it. I eat a lot of veggies, and they sometimes go bad. I want an app that lets me put in when I bought something, and it keeps track of when it goes bad. The problem is that this app won't save items to my list. My rating will go up when this is fixed.

M70%
by M####:

It won't save my foods to my list. I take a pic, add quantity, click the check mark, and the My Foods list is still empty

Z70%
by Z####:

When I add a food, it does not show up on my list. When I click the barcode icon, the app crashes. Not really sure how the app is useful yet.

Love the Idea and this is the start of a great app you really have something here. Hope to see a new more full version of this. I like how clean and easy it is to use. I wish there we're more tips though.

The hardest thing will be to actually get people to commit to using this app. It would take a lot of time, especially initially, to log all of the food in the house. Your doing a great job already, the app is very well designed and certainly easy to use. You have a terrific idea, that could definitely save people a lot of money, the most difficult thing will be simply convincing people to use the app.
