About Rude - Drum Rudiment Training

The free version of the Rude Practice Pad. This app will:
* Show notation of all 40 official rudiments, with name and order according to PAS.
* Visually indicate where you are in the pattern, synchronized with the built-in metronome.
* Keep the tempo using the most accurate metronome engine available on Android.
* Allow tempo adjustments between 20 and 240 BPM.
* Navigate quickly and intuitively between rudiments and tempos, with support for most input methods (including media buttons, remote controls and screen swipes).
* Link to textual descriptions and instructional videos showing all the patterns individually, on pad and examples applied to drum set. Professional performances with a single click. (The videos and examples are published at rude.skrivarna.com.)

What it doesn't do:
* It does not attempt to play the rudiments with the built-in midi sounds. No offense, but in this case your phone sucks.
If you want the play-along feature, please check out the Rude Practice Pad app. Rather than trying to program a midi sequence to faithfully reproduce a buzz roll or flam, the new sound engine uses real sampled drum sounds. The Rude Practice Pad also contain 100 hybrid rudiments, exercises, social sharing etc.

I really appreciate comments on how this small app behaves, looks and performs on different Android versions and hardware models. If you mail me at software (at) skrivarna.com I can get back with updated versions or questions and answers if needed.

Of course, any suggestions on additional features, improvements and corrections of the actual contents are very welcome. Use the software (at) skrivarna.com mail for this as well. This is also true for the examples at rude.skrivarna.com, please send me a mail with any comments.

And yes, I am aware that some of the rudiments, official or not, have different possible interpretations in how they are played and notated. In most cases I have used the most common form (as far as I understand), but there is also a trade-off in making the notation viewable on a small screen and making the underlying code somewhat maintainable. If you have a strong opinion on this and think I have made the wrong choice, don't hesitate to contact me. I will do my best to be as correct as possible.

Doesn't give an audio sample of the rudiments, just a metronome click and visual notations. Useless if you don't know what the rudiments sound like to begin with.

It is not useful. It does not help you practice

This is a great app! I would just recommend putting arrow scrolls in to tap in order to get to the next rudiment. Sliding my finger skips through too many.

While i appreciate you can change the bpm, i found it actually lacks the sound of the specific rudiment your wanting to practice. Im aware that i can click a link to youtube, but i find this defeats the purpose. Personally id rather hear & read each specific rudiment while also being able to increase the bpm. But if there's another feature im missing can you please inform me. Cheers

This app is great, however, there is an error on the flamacue, the accent should be on the second 8th note, after the flam!! With usually another accent on the 1/4note flam...

This is my first day using it. I am intermediate drummer. I hope that this is the answer. We want to be the best that we can be. Go on youtube and type in byos. Try to be better than then. I hope that this is the answer

But hard to navigate. On a big tablet (where notes would be easier to see), the sensitivity seems to be adjusted for phones only and once swipe skips multiple pages. Please optimize for tablet! Until this is fixed, I will unfortunately have to use the vic firth app.

Thanks for your good app. Please add sound (even midi )to rudiments so it can be more useful, even offline. Then you deserve 5stars and more :)

I like this app. Gives a concise description of a drum rudiment a shows the corresponding videos to practice and apply it. But one problem that I'm having is with interface; it is hard to go from one rudiment to another . When I want to go to the next rudiment for instance, it jumps way far to another rudiment that I Don want.

Not being able to change screen orientation is a deal breaker. Fix that and add a search form for rudiments, the ability to add my own rudiments, and a rudiment playlist builder to save time practicing and you have a 5 star app.

Besides Vic Firth, This is a awesome app. It has all the rudiments and helped me a lot. I wish it just had a play along option for the rudiments I don't know. Other then that, It's a great app for all percussionist.

I instruct a drumline and I want to implement this in the kids private practice sessions. Thanks, keep up the work. You should include hybrid rudiments and maybe timing exercises with hemiolas or accent patterns. Some flam stuff would be great also.

This is really cool... Great for both learning and practising! Noticed the handing notation for the second exercise is wrong though... I think itwas meant to be RLRL and not RLRR. Hopefully there aren't too many similar issues to confuse learners!

Will get five when it had a playback to play along to besides metronome. That don't require data. And an increase tempo on repeat n option
