SlingPlayer Free for Phone

The only purpose for a slingbox is to view your television content on another television. The only mainstream way to do this without laptops and HDMI cables is a Google Chromecast. As many others have pointed out, this app does not recognize Chromecast devices. iPhones have no issues. Android devices cannot use the slingbox as most folks probably intended to when purchasing.

Currently using app with 2 Android devices, Chromecast icon is inconsistent. Delay when command is sent from app to cable box can also be improved. I'm currently using a FiOS connection 150/150 Mbps so my speed is more than acceptable for better uality and faster command reaction time.

App doesn't cast to your device like it's suppose to. You have to use a work around and piggy back off your Google Home app. 2 stars. Customer service is aware of issue but don't have a time line to fix it. They just tell people to use the work around.

Crashes immediately, very frustrating. Reviews are mostly bad which tells you enough about the quality. Updates are about once per year. They need to hire better programers and keep up with the new Android operating system release.

FIX THE CASTING ISSUES! WHY CANT I CAST TO A CHROMECAST WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS?! Casting worked when it was leased initially. What happened? its gotten worse every year since. EVEN WATCH ESPN CASTS PERFECT. GET IT TOGETHER GUYS. THIS SHOULDNT BE SO BROKEN

After the last update (March 2017) I am no longer able to connect to my SlingBox. I found an workaround to this: Connect from WD TV Live, then connect from phone - but this is not what I would expect... It seems that the new version cannot "wake" up the SlingBox. Actually, I was able to connect without the trick mentioned above only once, after many attempts. Before, it was working perfectly. I wish I could get from somewhere the previous version. There are a few placed to get the apk on the web, but I am hesitant to trust them.

3'26/17 update: i have 3 different chromecasts in my house. Neither the paid app nor the free app picks up any of them. What a joke. Dont buy if you are planning on streaming to a chromecast. Never picks it up. Ive got charter internet at 100 mbps, a galaxy s6, and standing next to the tv. What a joke. Every other video app i use (hbo go, netflix, foxsports, youtube) all automatically pick up the chromecasts. This app sucks.

App won't let me connect to Chromecast or anything else. Why did I pay $100 to have to watch ads to control a device that I own? I'm not purchasing the app too!!! Stay away! Buyer beware!

Worst onboarding experience ever. As a software engineer you would think I'd be able to make this work. What's even worse is that you have to watch ad's when you already paid for the hardware.

Constantly drops stream. Also, app is too stupid to sense nearby Chromecast (when other apps have no problem casting). This has been a problem for over a year (two years?) now!

Used to work fine. Now crashes and reconnects any time I attempt to use the remote control from within the app. Very frustrating.

Freezes on me intermittently and audio gets out of synch with video. Makes shows completely unwatchable. Remote layout doesn't seem to exist. You're presented with a paged list of various buttons you can use with your remote but that layout is not at all organized. To watch a show I've recorded I need to interact with my phone way too much. I can do the same actions on the actual remote much much more easily. Please fix the remote layout.

Fix Chromecast. On Android the icon will not appear. However if you cast the device, start the app, close the app the icon usually appears. Also picture quality is very bad. Also disconnects regularly.

Thanks for the worthless update. Chromecast STILL does not work, using guide to change channels doesn't work on marshmallow or above. Your developers are incompetent, it's a truly awful implementation. Every other app can handle chromecast with their beta versions and sling can't do it it after 3+ years.

Updating 7/10/17: Casting isn't perfect, but it is significantly improved. Given that, in conjunction with their hardware, this is really an excellent product. Updating: 10/15/16 no improvement. App describes the idea that it has casting, but it doesn't work. Worse, the tech support is simply horrible. Hard to believe this is associated with Hughes Networks.

Why don't we get a full remote? I'm used to the quick mode for viewing that requires use of the play and select buttons. I haven't figured out how to do this. Short of that, why not programmable buttons?

Do not buy this app of you plan on using it for Chromecast. It is extremely inconsistent and aggravating. I've emailed the developers 3 times and have been ignored every time. Anyone else with this issue, please report the app. Maybe we can force them to update it.

Mostly excellent service, particularly on my phone. Casting to TV sometimes cuts out but probably not the all's fault. One of my must haves.

Sucks that everytime I use it on my Galaxy S7 that i have to cast my screen to the tv first, it then [after a few minutes of watching whatever the Cast button finally shows]You can try that unless you have an iphone... still annoying

Impossible to use the chromecast functionality. Really a waste of space on my phone. My slingbox is useless without chromecast functionality.

Constant requests to rate the app while solving problems caused me to give the app a negative review previously. It's frustrating to receive so many rating requests before this excellent app is up and running. While encountering problems, everything seems to suck.

No Chromecast support all of a sudden, also after the latest Android O update, only audio is playing, no video. Checked the settings to make sure Audio Only wasn't selected.

I love the slingbox before I switched to the S8+. The app keeps asking me for the admin password.i have reset the password 5 or 6 times and it still asking for the password and won't let me WATCH tv.... Once this issue is fixed I will give it 5 stars.

Chromecast doesn't function properly and the latest update has a bug where you cannot select channels from the guide.

This app used to work well but now I can't even power on my cable box, and can't watch anything. Fix the remote control option because when you hit D-pad or All it does not work

Fix Chromecast issue. Takes upward of 30 tries or more of relaunching the app just to get it to work and the quality is sub par.

I try to use it watch my Slingbox Pro. Works rarely, crashes on start up nearly every time.

Unfortunately my $30 app won't play from my M2. Only the Solo. So there's ads but the savings of $30 was well worth it. The ad(s) weren't intrusive (except the 45 second one at launch. Anyways: great app, love the price. ;)

Great to have!! A necessity when away from home & greedy tv providers wont give you want want to see!! Enjoy this awesome device!!

I bought this specifically for Chromecast feature, icon doesn't appear even though it is advertised to work (even when on network with CC which works with phone). Severely impedes usage

They updated the app and now I cant change the channels anymore from the app itself. Very evil.

Sometimes it's a bit temperamental and doesn't bring up the cast drop-down and I've had to restart the app but it works well in general

For the past two weeks this app hasn't worked properly on LTE or Wifi. I previously used slingplayer all the time. Not sure what happened two weeks ago.

Slingplayer app development team has completely failed in interfacing with Google Chromecast. Can't get casting icon to appear at all anymore.

It works well but it lost the functionality to change channels via the guide. I have to pull up the soft remote and type in the channel number.

App updated today after a full year with 0 updates and they still have not fixed the Chromecast detection issue. Thanks Sling!!!

The Chromecast support sucks. Pain to get it working. Also changes to a rubbish screen layout when you do get casting to work. Please fix

My Slingbox Solo has been slinging me content from two opposite ends of the globe for years now. I love knowing that when I travel I can still enjoy antenna/cable TV from either country while I'm away. Always great quality and sound even on mobile devices, open networks, airports, and even places way off the beaten path. Globe trotters who want to keep up with the news and shows from home will love it! Keep up the great work.

Like others have stated, this simply isn't working with my Chromecast. I've tried it now with two different devices and no luck with either. Chromecast connectivity is a big selling point of this product and for it to not work it a critical issue that needs to be addressed. Gave it two stars because at least it streams to my phone - just no ability to cast it to my Chromecast from there. Would be more than glad to update my score to a 5 if the Chromecast issues are fixed.

Slingplayer app doesn't stream to my Chromecast using an android phone. Ironically when I use my iPhone I can cast slingplayer to Chromecast no problem. Also I can cast to roku with both ios and Android. Why are you not able to cast from android to Chromecast when iPhone works and so does the roku. Horrible support as many users have complained already. Fix this so I can use my S8 to cast to my tv instead of having to get my iPhone or cast to a roku.
