যাকাত ইসলামের পাচটি স্তম্ভের একটি। যাহা ইসলামের মৌলিক ইবাদতসমূহের মধ্যে অন্যতম ইবাদত। প্রত্যেক মুসলমানকে যেমন যাকাত ফরয হওয়ার বিষয় সম্পর্কে বিশ্বাস করতে হবে, ঠিক তেমনিভাবে যার উপর যাকাত ফরয তাকে তা নিয়মিত পরিশোধও করতে হবে।

নিসাব পরিমাণ সম্পদের মালিক সকল মুসলিম নর-নারীর উপর যাকাত প্রদান করা ফরয। কোন ব্যক্তি নিসাব পরিমাণ সম্পদের মালিক হওয়ার পর চাঁদের হিসাবে পরিপূর্ণ এক বছর অতিবাহিত হলে তার উপর পূর্ববর্তী বছরের যাকাত প্রদান করা ফরয। অবশ্য যদি কোন ব্যক্তি যাকাতের নিসাবের মালিক হওয়ার পাশাপাশি ঋণগ্রস্ত হয়,তবে ঋণ বাদ দিয়ে নিসাব পরিমাণ সম্পদের মালিক হলে তার উপর যাকাত ফরয হবে। যাকাত ফরয হওয়ার পর যদি কোন ব্যক্তি যাকাত প্রদান না করে অর্থ-সম্পদ খরচ করে ফেলে তাহলেও তার পূর্বের যাকাত দিতে হবে।
