StartPage Private Search

Brilliant idea - glad to finally have on my phone. Brief pause at startup for the first time during a power cycle. The implementation seems more robust here than duckduckgo. One question: Would allowing results to open in browser of choice instead of in-app browser compromise the security? Thx!

Startup time could be a little less, but the app is quite fast for something so secure, so no real complaints there. The only thing I'd like to see changed is, when I press 'open in browser' it opens the ixquick proxy version of the website. I think that should happen only if I click on the ixquick link, not the main search result. Other than that, it's a good app for a great service. Thank you devs!

Has worked flawlessly on: Blackberry, all Samsung NOTES 1-7, Galaxy's, Windows and Apple systems! I also love the privacy of "Start Mail", which does cost about $50 a year, but is so well WORTH IT! Based in the Netherlands, BOTH PRODUCTS ARE NOT SUBJECT TO US LAWS!!! You go into their server, (your IP address basically disappears and THEIR IP address is shown... EXCELLENT PRIVACY PRODUCTS!!!!

so brilliant. And a clever one. If I were an agent, the gov't kind, I'd never think of something so good. Like "instead of fighting and chasing people what if... what if we try the complete 180, a pot full of honey so good like as if it's spiked with cocaine...? You know what... that's perfect! Gonna mix a couple grams we've left from that 8-ball, save some for tonight though". Stupid joke. Thank you guys for your hard work!

Claims to protect my privacy but they need access to my photos and media. Mmm.....Also extremely slow. I want privacy but I don't have an hour to open up my conspiracy theory websites so I guess I'm screwed! Makes me think since it takes so long to load pages, they are gathering more info on me than Google.

Great search engine(been using it for a few years now) and great app. The only thing I would like to see is a dark theme. Besides that I really don't have any complaints. Thanks. One more thing, would like to see a proper Exit button. So dark theme and an Exit button. :)

I was asked once why it bothered me to have gov monitoring our online activity, saying if you have done nothing​ wrong, you have nothing to worry about. That way of thinking is what allows our rights, including our inalienable right to privacy. If I could rate 10 I would. This app, so far, has met every expectation I could hope for in a private browser: easy to use, easy to search, no data is saved unless you choose , It offers a free, one touch proxy, but best of all, it is not navy tech...Is it? Well anyway, its a feeling of comfort to know that what ever i choose to search for is protected. Dev, keep up the good work!

If you try to look at porn and your connected to TimeWarnerCable's WiFi, will the data or info or site be seen by them? because one time I did watch porn and my parent found because the connection stopped of the porn site that was shown on Time Warner Cable that I was on adult site?

Slow in loading pages. Rather to load links in external browsers by default optionally. Lost searched results once switched back from other apps. Doesn't mention what kind of search engine it's using behind

Really appreciate that this has good privacy and that it takes up such little space. An unrelated suggestion would be to make it easier to surf through images. I have to click an image, press back, click another image and repeat. It's a bit inconvenient

My default on desk and laptops. Whilst being neither a demanding nor sophisticated user, I'm confident of the utility of this app for those who are. Taken for all in all, it is more than sufficient for me. Just for the hell of I will piggy-back chrome with! Thanks for caring about techno-duhhs like me.

I dropped Google years ago and have yet to regret it. REQUEST: Can you make the android widget similar to the "Ok Google" as a similarly functional replacement ?

StartPage in web browser is awesome, but this app needs a refresh. On Android 6.0 the page content only shown inside one box in the middle of the screen. Also entire UI still looks like apps built 5 years ago

So impressed. Privately search because, creativity often calls to areas unknown, inexperienced and to be responsible for what I do not know or have not experienced, this may stifle the urge to grow to expand horizons for the sake of propriety. When trying to access Google Play Store from a search result an error occurs: market://details?goToHome=1 urlscheme not supported.

Does this make any sense? I thought 2 meself. This is cool. A SEARCH that everyone should have. Then I woke up and found out something. Is not this in the original browsers of old. They just did not motivate the pc user to go into the privacy section of the browser and select all that Start Page is selecting for yer privacy. It like buying yer own bodyguard that knows how to protect you instead of teaching you that you have a privacy section. I bet go to privacy in yer old browser. Check it out 4 yerself.

Used ixquick for years on my computer and then it changed to Startpage. One thing I always liked was being able to change the look of the homepage. This is non-existent in the mobile version. You get a big white screen with oversized welcome text every time you open it. Thought it would go away. I want a darker screen as it's one thing that would help cut down on battery consumption and just looks better. Can not figure out what they were thinking with the page this app opens up to. Just plain ugly!

I've been using SP for years on my pc. It never disappoints. Fast , secure, ad free. To bad this app freezes on search request. But overall it's OK.

Free and the best out there. People must always keep in mind that true and total privacy does not exist on the internet. A fascist law followed by a subpeona is all it takes to lay you bare.

They changed Android awhile ago so that a browser needs SD card permission to be able to download files. Nothing sinister, it was actually a change for privacy reasons so that apps couldn't access each other's files.

Searched for my IP and it returned it including location. So this app does nothing. Yes I had all settings on etc. Great idea but for me was as private as taking a dump in the high street

I only rated this app 5 stars to keep it at the top of reviews. I neither like the app nor the webpage. The webpage looks way too small on my phone. And the toolbars in the app looks blurry.

I like being able to search google without having it track me. To get this kind of privacy, I used to have to use the duck search, which was decent but couldn't compete with google. The design and UI is a bit.... Bubbly and bulky feeling though.

with our privacy policies up in the air, this app is part of what we need to keep our information private! this app does the trick. give it a try.

This is a good app, but it is too slow. The splash screen was displayed for 3 seconds before the main search page is loaded. If I have to wait 3 seconds each time I want to do a search, then I won't be using it anymore as it puts wasting too much time.

First off I've used startpage & ixquick for sometime with Tor/Orbot. Its great private search engines finally take hold but unfortunately what is now becoming more common is ISP snooping at the websites you're viewing. True, you can use the startpage web proxy under link but JS is off & unformatted for mobile. So this app solves one prob with websites "seeing" but not really your ISP. This app could really use setup a proxy in settings or use exclusively with a VPN. Another search app does hav proxy set.

This is great. Surprised me how fast it worked while still maintaining the secure searches. Have made it my default search engine where possible and put it in my shortcuts elsewhere. Also added Ixquick to my shortcuts for those times when my search results need a non Google result.

This app keeps crashing when typing in a search request. I've uninstalled and reinstalled this app several times without success. Others may have better luck, but for me it's worthless.

Love the idea. Intrusiveness is creepy, no one should be exposed to that. That Is Bad Behavior and unaceptable means for judgement. Im a concerned uncomfortable person that lives on this planet just like e-ver-y-one else! Leave me out of it!! Whatever IT is and who THEY are..., i just wont participate.

To be or not to be watched , the right to be private is deprived from those , who are already imprisoned. You have pried open a door , that we can choose to come out. But, many will be to comfortable or too afraid.

Talk the text would b great. Make it better than Google's mess! Image search need some adjusting. I did just put this on my tablet. I hope it works. I didn't see a tablet version. All the clicking back n forth is inconvenient on image searches. So sometimes I've gotta go with the spymasters. Our love of convenience will probably march us right into slavery. May already have! Takes a little bit to adjust but it's just amazing. Im very very happy. U can't access fb though since fb uses tracking cookies and this app won't accommodate for that nonsense . Big thumbs up

Start Page is simple the best search engine out there. It provides the peace of mind no one else even comes close to offering. . . as it should be.

The reason we all use Google is because it spy's on us and knows what results to give us. We have to get passed the easy lazy way we're marching into slavery. Why wouldn't you use this app and see the same search results as everyone else and in private.
