Modern Wooden Wardrobe

Many people prefer wooden wardrobes over the others, as an essential part of their respective bedrooms, mainly because of wood's durability. The two main categories of these are the free standing and the fitted wardrobes. The former category is very versatile and is classified according to designs, styles, and prices. Their shelves and hanging areas differ from one style to the other. They can be purchased directly or ready-to-use. The latter category is tailored-fit to a bedroom's targeted space where the wardrobe will be. Frequently, the owner gives instructions to the expert maker/s on how the wardrobe will be look like. One may be built in uneven walls, or awkward angles; thus, the whole bedroom space will be maximized.

Furthermore, the mentioned fitted wardrobes category has three types: the framed, the sliding door, and the fully built-in. Firstly, the framed type generally has a floor or base but no backing panel. The side and back walls can be seen when its doors are flung open. Secondly, the sliding door type has fitted sliders which stand as the basic frame. There should be enough gap between the insides and the doors to prevent dragging of the clothes when these sliders are opened. For an added elegant look, the doors may be fitted with mirrors. Lastly, the fully built-in type has a base, back panel, top, and two sides. It usually has leveled legs under the floor and its doors have hinges on each side panel.

When it comes to finding a wooden wardrobe for your home, the equally important first two questions to ask are: what size wardrobe are you looking for, and which type of wood would you prefer.

Wardrobe Sizes

If you are looking for a standalone wardrobe and not a custom installation which is built to fit exactly into the available space in your bedroom, there are 3 wardrobe sizes that are available to you:

Single
Double
Triple
The difference in size between each will be proportionately incremental; for example the double will be twice as big as the single, and the triple three times the size of the single, with each model having the equivalent number of doors (1, 2, or 3).

For most people sharing a bedroom, a double sized wardrobe is sufficient, but with a triple wardrobe the additional space can negate the need for an additional item of furniture such as a chest of drawers.

The single size is easier to find than the other 2 sizes, and typically used in a child's bedroom, or in a room where space is limited. Unlike the double and triple wardrobes, a single model will rarely include a drawer.

Both of the larger sizes are available with a number of drawer combinations regardless of the type of wood. In most instances the drawers will be full or half-length, with some of the larger triple wardrobes providing up to 8 individual drawers.

If you already have - or are planning to buy - a chest of drawers, purchasing a wardrobe without drawers may end up saving you money, as the models with integrated drawers tend to cost more than those without.

Once the size has been ascertained, and whether or not drawers are required, it's time to determine which wood would be most suitable.

While it is possible to find wardrobes in many types of wood, oak and pine are by far the most popular and common; mahogany, mango, and beech follow some way behind.
