About DuShu - Read & Learn Chinese
DuShu is a Chinese Reader that will take any Chinese text (via copy&paste or from a file) and present it to you in a way to make it easier to read, but at the same time help you learn as much as possible while reading.
DuShu adds tone colors, underlines that show which characters are part of a word, and pinyin. However, Pinyin is not simply added to every character, but only where you need it - the app keeps track of the characters you know. Pinyin can be turned on or off for a character simply by tapping it.
You can read sentence by sentence, with a vocabulary list below the text, or Chinese text only with the vocabulary on a separate page. The vocabulary list shows only relevant vocab according to your skill level. Words you already know can be removed from the list, the app also keeps track of your known words and will not show known words in vocab lists again.
A translation is available for each sentence - manual translations for our integrated texts, Google Translations for everything else. If your system language isn't English, you can easily switch between English translations and translations into your system language. (Sentence translations are a premium feature - however, as an introductory trial we offer them for free until the end of 2017).
You can also listen to any text, high quality audio will be created via Google text-to-speech. You'll always be shown only the sentence that is currently being read, plus relevant vocabulary items.
Of course there's an integrated dictionary, which beyond usual dictionary-information also shows the frequency, HSK level and a breakdown into constituent components for characters.
You can save your texts & resume where you left off later, and also get lots of information about your text - like difficulty, how many unique Hanzi (=characters) there are in the text etc.
Everything's highly configurable - which words are be shown in the vocab list, which tone color scheme (or none), pinyin always, never or for unknown characters only, text and pinyin size etc. can all be selected b the user. As it will adapt to your skill level, this Chinese Reader app can be useful for everybody from beginners to advanced learners.
Statistical and grammar-based analysis makes sure the segmentation into words and annotation with tone colors and pinyin is as accurate as possible.

This is the best app for practicing reading by far. Deserves five stars easily. p.s It now hangs when I try to flip pages. I have tried rebooting, moving to internal memory, forcing stop, erasing data and it won't work. Reinstalling works, but I lose all my progress and the problem comes back after a while. Thanks for this great app anyway. I hope it can be fixed.

Repetition works. Not professionally translated (wife is a professional translator) and sometimes the wrong meaning is spoken for a certain character. Overall good app to learn. Would pay if pro translated.

Excellent app! Seeing the Pinyin only where I need it really helps concentrate on reading the characters. And being able to read with sentence translations and vocab lists readily available makes reading so much easier!

Very effective for memorizing HSK vocab, but using English/Japanese names to introduce new Hanzi is a mistake. Only useful words should be used.

Superb. Despite my rather modest knowledge of Chinese characters, this well designed application helps me to read and understand simple sentences. Even better, this helps me to understand and remember new characters and words in context. My sincere thanks to the developer!

Please tell me how can i make shown the pinyin?I mean I wanna see it all the time.Cause it is uncomfortable every time touch display to make hidden pinyin(it under grey line)seen.I really good remember hieroglyphs,but I have troubles of remembering tones,so please make it seen any time,without touching.Or if this function is in the settings,tell me what should i choose(cause i've tried before but there was no success.)

There is a reason for the 5 star rating. During shu is a must have app for students to learn Chinese characters. It is so good. I am able to improve and speak Mandarin at the same time learning to use the words on very different formats and situations. Thank you Du shu. Wo ai ni.

Being able to read smoothly with correct tones and quick access to English meaning is extremely useful for learning and enjoying Chinese. I'd suggest getting wechat reader and copy and pasting text from books in their that suite your personal interests. Doesn't even feel like studying. It's just reading. Excellent app.

Awesome, having learned using flashcards hsk1 and hsk2, I'm still not able to see how the characters are used in conversations and sentences. This app is really awesome and reinforces what I learned. I'm a native Cantonese speaker but can't read write 汉字 nor speak 汉语 （Mandarin). Hopefully I can move up to hsk6 progressively. Would also be great to have an Android TV version. The navigation can easily be adapted to the remote controller, then I can learn on a bigger TV screen. 谢谢

This is a solid app, although the UI sorely needs a material design update. More importantly, I suggest adding way to providing feedback in-app - this will help your review process and increase the quality of your sentences. Here is a typo I found from HSK 3: 我还了从图书馆借的书，又借了些新的 gives pinyin hái for 还 when it should be huán.
