ما زالت نشأة قصيدة "أصابك عشق" مجهولة التحديد. لكن المعروف ان عبد الرحمن محمد عمل على القصيدة فأبدع في اخراجها من تراث قديم مدفون و غمره بإحساسه الصادق وصوته العذب بالإضافة الى لحن وتوزيع أكثر من رائعين.
لقد استطاع عبد الرحمن محمد بقدرته على التجاوب مع ظروف القصيدة الى بلوغ أداء المحترف.. مطرب ذو حس جمالي اضافي استطاع اخراج القصيدة الاغنية من ديوانها الشعري الى جمهورها الموسيقي.
هو مبدع احتفظ لنفسه بدور الاداء الغنائي الرائع حيث بقيت القوافي تحاكي عقولنا في قبول حياة غير صامتة، تشدو بها قصائد بليغة بلغة عربية واضحة و صريحة.
وقد ركّزت رسالة محمد على وسيلة التقديم من خلال وسيلة تقديم أكثر من رائعة لمهاب عمر.
قد أبدع عبد الرحمن محمد في الوسيلة التعبيرية الانفعالية. تلك الوظيفة التي عنيت بالتعبير عن موقف محمد اتجاه ما يغنيه.
قد احسن عبد الرحمن محمد في استثمار قوافي و مخارج الحروف بشكل قوي عبّر من خلاله عن كلمات ساعدت في عدم تصدع او تشقق في الاداء. وقد تمكنت القصيدة الاغنية من ضرب التوازن الدقيق بين جميع مكونات اغنيات الحب لتتربع على عرش الاغنية الغير تقليدية. ان صوت عبد الرحمن محمد الغنائي في "أصابك عشق" حقّق جماليته و شعريته ولم يبقَ صوتاً مجرداً من خلال ما منحه محمد للقصيدة من هويته ووجوده في الزمان و المكان.
