It is the only dictionary(Jap/Eng) I use because it doesn't load much my ROM and it's effective. I use it the most to translate some Kanji I don't know from Japanese friends. I 5stars it because I don't have any bugs,it works well. Thanks :D

For me, this is the best jap-eng dictionary ever. I have tried many dictionaries and none of them are even close to this. It is very easy to use and has numerous entries. Like I would find anything and more. Now that I am switching to iphone I really want to cry over not having JED any more.

This app used to work fantasically. Best dictionary ever. But now there is a scrolling bug when im using my samsung note5. The words break into duplicates and overlap each other. I cant read a thing when im scrolling! Please please fix this!

N70%
by N####:

As a functional dictionary, it's great, but for some reason whenever I scroll up or down on any menu, it twitches all over the place, and the text spasms up and down like crazy. Idk if this is just my phone or the Android version, but it'd be nice to have this debugged~

How to fix blurred characters when either scrolling up or down? I didn't have this issue when I first installed it early this year 2016. I tried installing it on another device recently just for testing and that device suffers from the same problem. Would easily rate 5 stars for this app but due to this bug, I would rate it 3.

by F####:

Very useful application! I use it all the time when I'm looking for Kanji that I don't know how to read. I combine it with Kanji Draw (I guess the stroke order, which is fairly simple to do), and if Kanji Draw finds what I'm looking for (sometimes my stroke order will be off, or I missed some marks), then JED will always find what I'm looking for, giving me every meaning, reading, and how to properly use the word in sentences. I use to have Kotoba on my iPod Touch, and this is a great alternative for Android! I do wish that I could get the nicer look, like in Pictures 3-6, rather than the default, hard-coded look. It doesn't take off any points, considering I'd prefer functionality over looks for the purpose it serves, but it'd be a nice option. (HTC Droid DNA)

This app is an amazing resource for the studier of the Japanese language. It's flexible, and yest at the same time fairly simple. Features such as the stroke-order digrams round out the package and make it an indispensable ttol in the study armory. I'm stunned this thing is free, and I'm with another reviewer in calling for a financial contribution link for the developer.

I have been learning Japanese for 3 years now and have studied in Japan (N3 on the JLPT). JED has been my constant companion throughout it all, and I honestly don't know what I would do without it. The offline mode is a lifesaver when I'm abroad. Radical lookup, handwritten diagrams -- it's everything you need. I love how you can look up phrases and see example sentences. Simply fantastic.

T70%

This app has been a lifesaver. The dictionary is vast and very helpful, with some very nice features. I'd like to see more examples of how each word or term is used, but I really can't find any notable flaws with this app.どうも有難う御座います!!

I use this a lot and it a great app that help me learning japanese when i'm not in class. But it'll suddenly error sometimes and i always have to reinstall it. Installing this app is such a pain in the ass because i have to keep it on screen or it will fail (sometimes i have to pray while waiting). The bar move like snail. But still this dictionary is the best i ever know.

Been using JED for years now and I absolutely love it. It's helped me out in many a dire situation.  Was just wondering if it's possible to add an option so you can add your own entries or delete entries, or an online mode and download other people's entries and notes about certain words.  I'm sure people would happily pay for that.  Again, thank you for your hard work. Tried to email to thank you but address is no longer active. Great product. I recommend it to all.

This is the first time I've actually WANTED to rate an app. This app was everything I wanted and more! <3 not only can type in the word you want to find, you can also narrow down your results! And I was NOT expecting the kanji by radicals recognizer! <3 I still think kanji by radicals is the best thing I've ever found and that this app has it made it amazing. ~ I can't believe its FREE!

Please create the possibility for a font directory and font setting... I spent almost an hour trying to find a kanji (誤) because the shown chinese font is sooooo different from the japanese (the japanese is closer to this:呉....search for a pic of the kanji).... If option for font is possible, it deserves 5star!!! (sadly rooting my phone, and changing the default font is not an option for me)

Used this app when I lived in Japan. Conjugations of verbs and kanji stroke order diagrams are invaluable. Since upgrading to an S6, every time I scroll it goes blurry, bounces up and down and won't scroll all the way to the bottom. Installing and reinstalling didn't help. Would love a fix as I'm studying Japanese again!

This application has completely replaced my Japanese electronic dictionary. It would deserve 6 start if not for the "- User data ( especially tags!!! ) gets deleted when updated!" part. Tags are one of the really smart things about this app. Thanks for saving my Japanese trip ;)

D70%

After the last update, I cannot get the app to open. I click on it, the screen flashes like it's going to open, then nothing. If I click again, I get the option to install the other dictionaries. I have tried installing just the English-Japanese dictionary alone, installing with the lite dictionary, and installing with the lite and kanji order diagrams. Nothing works. I haven't installed the Spanish or French dictionaries though. Frustrating!

A key, must have dictionary. There were a lot of words I couldn't find in Google translate or other Japanese translation dictionaries that I was able to find here. This app is so user friendly! Love that you can put your own tags on words.

Best jap dictionary in market. However, it was good until I updated my note 4 to Marshmallow. Whenever I try to scroll down, everything becomes blurry. Same thing happens on my s7 edge as well (also on Marshmallow). It was fine in Lollipop

Q70%
by Q####:

New dictionary update brings huge improvement, now much more comprehensive. Please make it optional for all 15 conjugations of verbs to not show in search results. It's frustrating having to scroll through them all to get to the next word. Also I'm not seeing the new interface on my phone even though I'm sure I have the latest version.

Q70%
by Q####:

Of all the Japanese dictionary apps available, this one is the best. However, it could be better. I am very frustrated by how the kanji radical section works. If a radical is in more than 50 kanji, the program will only show you 50 results. I need to see all of them on one list. I don't need to be combining other radicals and looking through every combination in a tedious process just so I can see all the kanji that have a particular radical. Show us all the kanji with that radical please.

I love this app, especially for its tag feature. It used to export tags to anki and that worked great. Then Anki2.0 came and the export feature stopped working I hope an update fixes anki integration soon. That will make the app 5 stars again, IMHO.

*edit* unfortunately, this app is starting to show its age as Android has moved on and improved but the app hasn't been updated. One glaring issue is that when you scroll you get terrible screen flickering and the text becomes unreadable. It will eventually fix itself, but it's a bit inconvenient. Still a very good app, it just needs a little TLC.

This has been an amazing and extremely simple and easy-to-use dictionary. While I try to avoid romaji, one nice feature is that you can search up Japanese words using romaji spelling if you're in a hurry and don't want to use hiragana/katakana. It also breaks down radicals of compound kanji, and gives you all forms of a verb (two very useful features). Maybe 5-10% of the words I've looked up haven't been in the database, possibly due to being slang or newer versions of words. Only reason it's not 5-star.

Q70%
by Q####:

The dictionary is missing some basic readings and kanji. It also doesn't parse multiple kanji or spaces very well for words. There is no way to sort your search results in any way if you're looking for a difficult kanji. You can filter results, which helps a little, but I've rarely found it helpful. A plus side? It has a dark interface for those of us with AMOLED screens. Pass on this app and use Aedict instead.

Wanted a good Japanese dictionary like Kotoba! from iOS. But JED keeps showing "An error occurred during the search" when I try to use it. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S4. Disappointed that it's not working.

Q70%
by Q####:

you can search for a plenty of words that you cannot find in other dictionaries. But unfortunately I cannot use its full contents. Whenever I try to open a word row in the list, the application gives a bug report forcing the application to close.

Q70%

JED never fails to answer my question when I need to look up a word or Kanji. In terms of vocab it's very comprehensive, and the featureset is impressive too. I heartly recommend this app! I do have one issue - not sure if it's my hardware but sometimes I can't scroll right down to the bottom of an entry (Xperia Z).

But I'd like to file a bug report, and contact email seems to be out of service, what should I do? Short description: on devices that don't have a menu button, I can't reach the app's settings. Thanks!

I tried emailing, but I got an undeliverable error. It doesn't render very well after scrolling on a Nexus 5 using Android M preview. There might be issues when the new version of Android gets released, just a heads up.

The app is very useful and well made. However, when I click on a word for it's description the screen overlaps for every frame moved. It makes it hard to use. Can't wait for the fix!

I downloaded this app to check out the flash card function - The Japanese app on iOS lets you use flashcards to pick up JLPT words and there are preset decks sorted by level. It seems that in this app, you must add the flash cards one by one manually after setting up a folder. This took me a lot of clicking around to learn how to do it, so it isn't as intuitive or easily accessible as I had hoped, despite having an in-built flash card system. This is important for people learning high level kanji. :)

This is an excellent application. Really good for daily basis and for kanji. Every Japanese language learners MUST HAVE app. Really really thanks to all of you who developed this Magic application. One more thing. I would like to give you a 7 star rating. . Yoroshiku onegai shimasu. .

Really convenient, love that you don't need data or WiFi connection to use it. But recently the app has a kind of tracer effect or blurring when I scroll down the definition page to see examples and conjugations. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it still does it. Please fix!

I get to the bit where you click fetch and then it says it failed. I know this is a good app - when it works. But upon contacting the devs to see if there was a workaround, it came back as delivery failed. I am sad.

It's good, but the package is so big that it affects the function of my phone. If I move the file to sd card then the dictionary will not function. Can you fix this problem by allowing users to move that 103 MB file to sd card ? Thank you

This app is an amazing reference point. After years of searching the internet aimlessly I have finally found a source that lists multiple meanings for kanji, radicals, even stroke patterns.
