Check how the traffic is flowing on motorways and major A roads in England with official information live from the Highways England National Traffic Control Centre.
PLEASE NOTE: This app only contains information about the roads we manage in England. Other smaller roads in England are managed by local authorities. Trunk roads and motorways in Scotland are the responsibility of Transport Scotland; those in Wales of the Welsh Assembly Government.
This App will use your current location to give you the traffic news when and where you need it. Plan your journey, reduce congestion, lower emissions and arrive safe and less frustrated.
Official data is collected from thousands of vehicle monitors, CCTV and patrol reports to show where Highways England network is flowing well and to keep you up-to-date with traffic incidents as they break throughout the day.
The information covers unplanned incidents such as accidents and congestion, plus lane closures and other restrictions due to improvement works. Advance notice of future essential roadworks is given wherever possible.
KEY FEATURES:
Search
Allows the user to search for Incidents, current-road works and future road works, using 4 search options: Near You, Region, Motorway or A-Road. The facility to see all the events on all of Highways England Roads is included under ‘All of England’
Flow
A new feature. This option provides a view of the traffic flow on any of the Motorways in England. The user can then tap a ‘view’ button to review the motorway junction to junction information in detail. The user can share information about any event of interest using the social media options on their phone.
CCTV
This allows the user to search and view any of the CCTV’s on the Highways England Network. A current still image is shown, the image can be updated after 1 minute.
Routes
The user can now input a route using location name, address or postcodes. This feature uses the Google route finder to identify the available routes and the route will be displayed on a Google Map. Notifications can be added for chosen routes.
Review
The review screen enables the user, when not driving, to review the status of a route. They can scroll the list of events or they can zoom the map in or out.
Drive
The user can drive with or without a planned route. When driving without a planned route the user will be informed about all the Highways England events on the roads around them. The most common approach is to drive with a route. Then the App will only show the known events on the Highways England roads along that route.

Your phone must be connected to the internet (mobile 3G/4G/GPRS or wireless) to access live traffic information.
To use the location based features of the app, you must have a GPS enabled phone. Having access to the internet can greatly improve the accuracy and the time taken to get an accurate position. It can take several minutes in some conditions for your device to determine your position. If you are experiencing persistent location issues please contact our support team.
The app does not currently support bluetooth speakers or hands free kits.

But why cannot it have an interactive map with the different layers, as per the website (that incidentally does not work properly on chrome/android) . I want to know about future road closures. Secondly having done my route and clicking the google maps 'arrow'to open maps the route was wrong.

Nice idea but like the motorway information signs the data is inaccurate. On a recent journey to Leicester it warned of a 7 minute and a 10 minute delay. It was actually slow the whole way with a 45 minute delay at least

I downnloaded this so I could check major roadwork plans, esp on motorways. I have not been able to find this even though there is an indication it exists qat the bottom of the home page.

Road closed, but for how long? Then again, if their web page is anything to go by the time will keep changing. Got to Reading today at 06:50 as their web page said back to normal at 07:15. 08:40 and I have travelled a mile and their page now states 09:15 for normal conditions. It is probably the same idiots who leave the matrix signs on long after the incident has passed and then complains that no one pays attention to the signs.

Only the Highways England managed roads are covered. I don't really care who manages the road, it's the congestion and incidents I want to know about, including alternative routes.

I find this a very helpful app but the last week or so it hasn't been working properly, the matrix signs aren't updating as they're still stuck on the messages from over a week ago. Please fix.

Most of my daily route doesn't have cameras on it, even though it's the M30 j10/11 and on other parts the cctv picture is still frame, not a video.... Fix these problems please

Says there are delays on my route but not WHAT ? And no indication as to exactly where, nor can I 'see' (tap into veiw) WHAT they are? If you tell me there is a delay, tell me WHAT IT IS!! Stupid, bad app. I'm going straight back to Google maps, this is useless; practical garbage. Has failed to inform EVERY TIME the hindhead tunnel has been closed. Also will not switch off by swiping, so you have to manually go into APPs to stop it. Very annoying, very badly written, and very poor performance.

I read that there were 12 hours of delays going to Dover so I thought that I would use this app for more info. All it says is that traffic is heavy, I should plan my journey to take account of any delays and that the French border control are doing a really good job. It doesn't give me enough information to know whether I should attempt my journey. Absolutely useless.
