This app is designed to give hard numbers to just how effective a charger (and cable) are. No more guessing, no more assuming if the power rating on that cheap imported charger is just for show.

I hope to profile as many chargers and cables as I can to come up with the ultimate combination to charge a phone as fast as possible. I will update my web page (www.vexedbadger.com/?page_id=97) with all the results I collate.

After performing a series of tests I have observed that the cable you use us as important as the charger. I got over double the performance using a dedicated charge cable as opposed to a normal USB cable on a HTC B250.

So how does it work?
Its quite simple. Use your phone normally until the battery level is below 20%. Run this app then plug your phone in to charge. Leave it until it has charged and look at the results.
Why 20% to 80%?
Getting the remaining charge in a battery is not as exact as you would like to believe. I have noticed, especially at low levels, that the reading can be as much as 5% out. I have also observed that many phones have a behaviour built into them so that when they reach 90% charge they slow down the charge process to help protect the battery. With this in mind, I am using the relatively stable 20 - 80% range to test how a charger behaves at maximum load.
How is charger power determined.
This is a bit of a guess. I have assumed that the phone being tested has a battery with a capacity if 1750mah (a Sony Xperia S), although as of 2.0 this value is configurable. I then work out how many hours it takes charge from 20 to 80%, and what percent of the battery this is. This gives a pretty accurate number. If your battery is different, the number may not match the charger, but it is still directly comparable to other tests against your phone (I think it will just consistently read high).

Good App. Useful. Much reasonable accurate than the other charging current apps. Is there any updates you would do? If you change it a little so we can use this app to measure discharging rate would be useful too. I'd use it to verify what services to turn off to reduce battery drain.

I mainly wanted to test my wireless charging but it doesn't detect it. This is a good idea but as others have said could do with a bit more work.

Apparently fixed so screen doesn't time out, but I fixed that with another app. For changing the threshold settings, I've had to restart the app but that isn't a big deal. App not shutting down due to a lousy cable was a big help. Only improvement to suggest is to have a history and possibly a way to give each charge a name (ie office, home, PC, etc) To users, suggest to put upper threshold to 98 or 99% because by then the extra percentage won't matter since it's an average. This app cannot save charging time history. how would you know if the charging reached 80%? You cannot. if you were sleeping while charging, you will not see the time

This app does what I needed it to do which is test the difference between charging time with different chargers. It would be nice however, if this app had some sort of way to remember different charge sessions and keep a log.

When I open the app, and click on settings, I get a force close. If I open the app and leave it running, then open a different app (leaving charge timer open in the background), charge timer force closes as soon as it's no longer in the foreground. Please fix, as I've used this app on my old phone and it is great. My phone is a Note 3 international version. Stock 4.4.2 rooted. Thanks :)

The app is Having trouble showing the time it will take to charge my nexus 7. If i plug it in at 60 percent it won't tell how long it will take. It said battery to high. Otherwise its a great idea and can't wait to what the next upgrade brings

However, most of the time I'd like to run a test for 10 minutes vs. overnight or when I don't use my phone and though you can change the min and max levels, it's not always convenient. Also, a log with a place to put comments would be a great addition. Other than that, I'm using it on all my chargers and cables to determine their suitability. Thanks!
