The Merchant Marine Engineering is the profession, science and capability of engineering at sea,
under sea water level with conditions such as extreme heat, noise and dirty components.
Being a marine engineer is a hard job, because you must be capable of working and living at sea,
away from the shore, for a period of six months, as example.

The working enviroment is difficult due to working under the sea water level, where the engine room of a ship is located. Also there is a lot of noise generating from the main engine and all the rest of the machineries. The enviroment temperature of the machinery spaces are very high and is a job that you must sweat and dirty your hands and working clothes a lot.

The ships that you can work are the large cargo ships, such as the bulk carries, container ships, tankes, cruise ships etc. When you graduate from an academy, you usually get the rank of the 3rd Engineer. The starting rank depends from the country. You can reach the highest position at the hierarchy of the merchant marine engineer officers, which is the Chief Engineer.
