About Morse Decoder for Ham Radio

Morse Decoder decodes Morse code characters through the built-in microphone of your Android device.

Morse Decoder can be used by Ham Radio (Amateur Radio) operators or anyone else interested in decoding Morse code from a Radio or any other device.
Morse Decoder includes a "waterfall" to show a frequency spectrum of about 50Hz to 2300Hz. A narrow band DSP filter can be set for the frequency of the Morse code tones by tapping the waterfall. The DSP filter is followed by an automatic gain control (AGC) to compensate for changing signal strengths.
The detected signal will be shown as a graph and several algorithms will then detect the speed of the Morse code and convert them into readable text. Speeds of less than 4 Wpm (Words per Minute) to more than 50 Wpm can be decoded.

This is the first version of Morse Decoder.
It has been tested on several Android devices and it performed very well or even better than PC based decoding software. However, since we are not able to test the performance on all 150+ Android devices there is the possibility that Morse Decoder will not work on all devices. If Morse Decoder doesn’t work on your device you can uninstall Morse Decoder within 15 Minutes for a full refund (This is the time frame given by Google and I am not able to change it). If the 15 minutes passed and you are not happy with Morse Decoder email me as soon as possible at info@wolphi.com. Please include your name and the model of your phone in the email. I will then refund you the money as fast as possible. It is important that you include the model of your device. I will try to find the cause for the malfunction or include your phone model in a list of “not working” devices.

Didn't work for me. Showed graphs but didb"t print anything.

P70%

Works great for me. The only suggestion for the developer - is to add audio input from headset mic or the direct audio connection to the receiver through headphone jack. Thus there will be no need to keep the radio with to high volume level while decoding.

I'm using this app with my fully restored Drake R8 receiver. I have my receiver hooked up to a good external speaker, and if I want to find out what the CW says I just put my phone in front of speaker, set the slider and starts right up. Very easy to use, works as good as the MFJ reader. Well worth it for me.

Decodes well on Oneplus One. My only issue is the received speed isn't visible in landscape orientation.

VERY hit or miss. Either very good copy, or no copy using sony icf-sw7600gr shortwave radio even with solid signals. Using samsung galaxy tab 3. I also tried various frequencies all ove r the waterfall range, and also tried even setting the frequency slightly outside the red bars, trying to find some frequency where the program might perform better.

I am getting into ham radio and recently picked up a Heathkit cw transceiver. Now I can tune in and prop my Nexus 7 up to the speaker and listen in on the conversation. Overall I am satisfied.

This app seems to have a lag issue causing it to miss decodes even on a strong morse code signal. All I can g ive it is a 2 because this issue renders it somewhat useless. If Wolphi fixes and optimizes it I will considet a better rating. Trying to give this app a chance. Waiting on a update.

Works fine. Tuning the CW signal to show the maximum strength on the decoder's waterfall is important. Also, once the decoder finds the proper speed, lock it. This will be a great aid for me learning code. Thanks Wolfgang.

I knew after I tried it that It was a keeper. I am using it with the Wolphi interface and AT&T 8 inch tablet Trek HD Lollipop 4.0. My interface is modified with a single resistor & capacitor to work with the tablet. The rig is the Elecraft K2. I will notify Wolphi on exactly what I had to do to make it work - no big deal if you can solder. I plan to use this CW copy program at a demonstration event outside with my radio club . I will also demo RTTY and PSK31 with the same tablet and interface. The AT&T tablet would not recognize the interface without the modification. AF5U

I found moving the red lines to isolate the desired freq awkward. Needs + and - buttons to make it easier. Had to turn squelch off to get decoding working, once done and freq finally right worked well. Verdict, fiddly without improved user interface, but love it de G4POI

It work very good, but i think should be a manual method to set the speed

The total free app out performs this paid app on Galaxy 3 and 4

Works well reconised two becons right away. Took a second to relize i had to touch the waterfall display and adjust it so it picked up the signal shown on the waterfall.

J70%
by J####:

Works ok, but you have to adjust volume for a clean sine wave form on the bottom screen, which is entirely normal.

Works very well with my Droid Incredible. Seems to have very narrow filters to pull the signal out of the noise. Don't understand the 1 star feedbacks here.

PROS: Works great with the build in mic on my EVO, doesn't hiccup or hang up... CONS: No squelch mode, likes to display random text when it isn't decoding. Other than that its a great program.

Easy to use morse reader that works well. Excellent support from app writer.

Have used on my Asus Transformer with great results, good copy. Users must know "where" on their device the onboard microphone is, and position correctly in order to minimize noisy copy, but the graphic waterfall display makes that extremely easy. Very pleased to find this available for Android Radio Enthusiasts. This morning emailed Dev about future apps and got speedy reply. Extremely pleased.

Can't decode

X70%

Needs strong signal and good fist to decode, but that should be expected with machine readers. Also helps to use a direct connection similar to the one Wolphi has on his web page. The plan is to use this as a study aid while learning code.

D70%

Only works very narrow frequency (pitch). Not worth the money!

This app almost never decodes, so I'm very disappointed.

Every other one of Wolphi's ham radio apps work very well and I love them. But this one just won't decode any morse I have tried it with at any speed. Yet other morse apps, even free ones work fine. It will not work on my Sony Xperia phone or on my no-name tablet. David vk2dmh.
