About Quill

Handwriting note-taking app for Android tablets. A key design goal is quick response to pen strokes and 100% vector graphics. Developed on a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet and Galaxy Note 10.1".

Features:
* Active pen (digitizer) support on ThinkPad Tablet, HTC Jetstream and HTC Flyer, Samsung Galaxy Note.
* Very fast response to pen strokes.
* "Fountain pen" mode supports pen pressure data, more pressure = thicker line (requires active pen)
* Pinch-to-zoom.
* Double-finger tap to zoom.
* Two-finger move gesture.
* Pen strokes are vector art, zoom does not pixelate your writing.
* "Pen only" mode (optional) disables touch input while writing.
* Android hardware accelerated graphics.
* Open source (GPL), so your notes are not stuck in an opaque file format.
* PDF export (save to SD card, Evernote, Share).
* PNG (raster image) export.
* Can backup/restore your data.
* Ruled/Quad background paper
* Tagging for pages so you can group them together.
* Switch between multiple notebooks.
* Undo/redo.

The n-trig active pen has been tested on the ThinkPad Tablet, HTC Jetstream, and the HTC Flyer. The Samsung S-pen has been tested on the Galaxy Note devices. The basic functionality should work on any Android tablet, but distinguishing pen from finger data and pressure sensitivity might not work on others. Please let me know your results if you try it on another tablet. See also http://code.google.com/p/android-quill/wiki/SupportedDevices

I no longer use this app... Nice affordable addition to my art apps, SB Pro & Layer Paint. Allows for image import. Press red button to access brush sizes. Distracting fact: The brush strokes look like geometry while making the stroke, after which it smooths out. Extremely limited brushes. Needs some basic tools like layers, bucket fill, shape tools, non-uniform transform. Version 10.7

Love the new updates that add more to the app but I wish that it had a syncing option that actually worked or giving an option of what cloud storage to use.

Z70%
by Z####:

No sync. This is/was good app. Comeback and develop it please! I see it has many people who favor it for writing. I also thought it was great with the s pen. I liked the line smoothing. I would like more pens and some updates pretty please.

by F####:

I use this on a Galaxy Note 10.1 and it is far superior than any other app. The only thing missing is to be able to directly import cropped images (like with lecture notes or s note). Another suggestion is to be able to customise the pen style history; for example, I would like to be able to set three pen colors and nothing else to be able to cicle trough them.

N70%
by N####:

Lack of a zoom-lock almost rendered this app useless in the face of competitors like "Write", Handwrite-Pro, and one or two others. How can you be working on A4 and the zoom suddenly changes to a value you don't even know? The app is not ready, and with the last update dated 2013, it appears the app has been abandoned.

this was an awesome app. The best penenabled app on play store. It no longer functions with the later builds of android however.

Been using for three years....no equal found after trying available alternatives....please continue to enhance features..integration with Evernote is awesome!!! Used on Note 2, Note 4, and Note Pro 12.2 daily

Only one I've found so far with full palm rejection settings

R70%
by R####:

It's really cool it corrects your hand writing and it makes it look nicer similar to skitch but more towards taking notes

N70%

Why did you stop updating the app?

B70%
by B####:

Abandoned haven't seen updates and can't login to sync anymore, lost my notes. Sux, it was one of the best.

Y70%
by Y####:

Abandoned, get the freeware version. Support is nonexistent. Was the best, now it's falling behind.

Since this syncs with Evernote, it's the BEST notes app I've found. Evernote is great but doesn't have the advanced features for tablet with a stylus. I wish this app had a highlighter pen. One of the only things I'd change/add.

Q70%
by Q####:

It works great. I wish it would let me make numbered pages, like sections. So that I can go back to a section and add more info.

Used to be a good app. Now, it crashes every time I open it. Based on other reviews, it's probably best avoided. Sad.

Z70%

Unfortunately folders for organizing notes are not available...

S70%

The tools and ability to use the tools are great!

A very good note taking app, but no sync. My notes are at risk...

Why did you stop updating the app?

Palm rest detection doesn't work. Wasted .99 cents.

Z70%

this app is great

I70%
by I####:

can do whatever I wanted. Works good on nexus 7 due to a narrow screen. For nexus 10 it might be more troublesome as you need to ensure you don't touch the screen or it will put a mess on your wordpad

Z70%
by Z####:

Love the app! Use it all the time in my college classes and it works well. Wiring is great and the layout is easy to follow. Worth the money, and if you have a button on your pen, it is used as an eraser Only 2 things it is missing: 1 - wish that I could select text and move it 2 - I hope that they get the online storage up

And it is open source! Worth donating to support development.

D70%
by D####:

Worked great when I first bought it. But as with other nexus 10 users I haven't used it for a couple months because an update made it unusable. Lines remain rigid and straight until I lift my finger... then the curve of the letters appear. That makes note taking a guessing game. Please fix the bug =).

Z70%
by Z####:

Bought it by accident. It's so good I kept it. The best note taking program, period.

Z70%
by Z####:

This app is great for basic note taking and organization, far better than S-note on my Note 10.1 tablet. It used to back up to Evernote which was excellent. Now it uses its own cloud backup storage and I can't get registered on the service to use it. Please go back to Evernote, it was seamless.

R70%
by R####:

Great response. Handles images well. Crops. Nice action. One of my favorite apps.

Z70%
by Z####:

I use this all the time for ideas and sketches. Love the fact I can write while my hand rests on the screen.

Z70%
by Z####:

This is OK but when I lift my pen off the screen it continues to draw for a short while which is messy and annoying.

A70%

Using nexus 10, the fluidity of the writing used to be great but after a recent update the writing is practically unusable... Tremendous lag. Please fix

Great app for no frills writing.. but don't expect things lpike pdf imports, layering, cutting or pasting, or custom paper

I use this app on an almost daily basis . I would rate it a "must have" for any designer/space planner. Works great on my Galaxy Note 10.1.

P70%

Great transition to the note 10.1 . I used this app when Lenovo used android. Much smoother then s note. Just missing shortcut widgets to go directly to specific pages from tablet home screen.

T70%
by T####:

The Handwriting is done nicely. The zoom, page orientation, infinite color choice, and easy organization sold this app for me. I would like it if there were more pen tools, many writing apps have 3. However, the fountain pen has varying thicknesses, for someone who knows how to use it. In the end, I wish there was a text insert. I see the picture insert. However, the text would increase the cost by a few dollars. Thought the cost would increase, the overall value would far outmatch the dollar amount. I have chosen this app over more costly Droid apps for writing. Overall, well done, I am most pleased.

W70%
by W####:

Very smooth and responsive. Most natural of apps I have tried. Still learning, may be 5 star.

U70%
by U####:

With the feature enabled, the thing to do is to switch back and forth between Capacitance-Pen Mode, and Stylus Mode a few times. Palm Shield then works. But beware: As soon as we rotate the screen, the app forgets this ability, so that we need to toggle the stylus mode a few times again...
