Sholawat adalah rahmat yang sempurna, kesempurnaan atas rahmat bagi kekasih-Nya. Disebut sebagai rahmat yang sempurna, karena tidak diciptakan sholawat, kecuali hanya pada Baginda Nabi Muhammad SAW.

Shalawat adalah doa yang ditujukan pada Rasulullah SAW sebagai bukti rasa cinta dan hormat kita kepada-Nya, yaitu sebagai umat-Nya. Tujuan dari membaca sholawat agar kaum muslimin mendapatkan Syafaat (Syafa’atul Uzhma) di akherat nanti.

Ayat diatas menunjukan bahwa "Allah SWT memuliakan Rasul-Nya baik semasa hidup maupun setelah beliau wafat, disebutkan pula kedudukan beliau, selain itu dengan ayat ini pula Allah membersihkan seluruh kesalahan diri dan keluarga beliau. Sehingga, makna sholawat Allah atas beliau adalah rahmat dan ridha-Nya, adapun sholawat dari malaikat adalah do’a dan istighfar, sedangakan sholawat dari umatnya adalah do’a dan menghormati serta mengagungkan perintahnya”, ungkap Imam al-Qurthuby dalam tafsirnya.
