Ansel Adams dedicates the beginning of his first book "Taos Pueblo" to visualization. He introduced the idea of "previsualization", which involved the photographer imagining what he wanted his final print to look like before he even took the shot. Of course, there are many great photos which were taken impromptu. However, for landscape photographers, being able to previsualize the scene before going there will greatly reduce the chance of being caught unprepared and will greatly increase the chance of getting better shots.
Photographers use various tools to help them pre-visualizing the scene. Nowadays, many of those tools are phone apps. PlanIt! is an all-in-one solution that is designed to leverage the map and simulated viewfinder technologies to provide the necessary tools for photographers to pre-visualize the scene in combination with the ground subjects and the celestial objects such as the Sun, the Moon, Stars, Star-trails and Milky Way.
In a single app, we packed it with features - from location scouting such as GPS coordinates, elevations, distance, elevation gain, clear view, focal length, depth of field (DoF), hyperfocal distance and panorama, to the Ephemeris features such as the sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset time and direction, twilight time, special hours of the day, sun/moon finder, major stars, constellations, nebulae azimuth and elevation angle, star trail planning, time-lapse calculation and simulation, milky way searching, exposure/ND filter calculator, light meter, bulb timer, rainbow position prediction, tide search etc. All the information are either represented on the map as an overlay or visually presented in a simulated viewfinder (VR, picture, or street view), just like you look through your camera's viewfinder. I've used this for a little while now. It's okay/good, but I'm sure it's a LOT better in the PRO version. What I see in the app and the screenshots in Play Store are 2 very different things. I was all ready to purchase it just now, until... I read through some comments. One said something about each feature having to be paid for. Whaa??? Nah, I don't want get soaked for each feature, especially without knowing in advance just how many there are, cost etc. ***just how much does this app cost, purchasing everything? Which is what I'd want. Anyone??? I'll change my star rating, accordingly. Thx!

Purchased pro version. Phone died. Replaced phone. Other 96 apps reinstalled correctly, but not PlanIt! In order to restore paid version, I'm supposed to enter transaction ID (I have an order number) and tap on "Request a license ID (no such button). I also appear to have lost my saved plans. Why can't this work like all other Android apps?

Just wasted 20 mins of my life on this. So called trial does not have a trial of the thing's main feature - the ephemeris features! Not impressed and very annoyed at my wasted time.

I want to try before I buy. Free version is nothing but a map. Features with a time limit would be okay. I REFUSE TO PAY FIRST. Otherwise, I don't know what it does. Talking about features is cheap. Mysterious icons are useless. Why not label with small text.

This is a well thought out and comprehensive program that covers all aspects of landscape photography. The full version was well worth the price. In fact, it's a steal for all the features you get! If you're looking for an app like PhotoPills for Android, this is it.

One should have manual to use the program, logic of navigation between important items is worst ever. Developers of this app should try for example photographers empheris to understand how it should be done. I couldn't find sun and moon even after spending lot of time searching. Essential things should be found in instance, make useful menus there. PS. The layout in the guide is different from application UI, so guide is not useful.

Complete worth for the money. Full of treasure for photographers and helps plan a lot of very useful scenarios. Even helps you plan to shoot a rainbow!!! :)

Great app and the extension is worth the money. If you have trouble setting it up then WATCH THE ONLINE TUTORIALS! Don't rate an app low just because you can't work it out... This app pretty much helps you plan everything for the perfect photo and its in the palm of your hand... If only the weather could be predicted with such accuracy.

What did you do? I can't find any of my previous favourite functions and controls are way too small. Seriously, an amazingly useful app, now the opposite. ______ P.S. Thank you to the developer for responding. Frankly, you are very quick to respond and your seem to listen to those who comment. That's a big plus. I will persist with PlanIt - what has been such a useful tool will surely continue to improve. Please make the buttons across the top bigger. So tiny on the average smartphone screen.

Expected better. After looking a little through the app I was surprised to find that only very few free features were available, so I wanted to find an alternative that fits my needs. Ended up getting photopills for free on aptoide but I might consider buying planit pro some day...
