I'm new to birding but I've tried a few other apps like this. So far I'm liking eBird the most. That said though, eBird's UI is pretty clunky. Feels like it's been tweaked over & over whereas it could probably stand a complete rework. Also why doesn't this include or at least communicate with Cornell's Merlin bird ID app?

New to this app, per the suggestion of a friend. I used to use the Audubon society app, it's quite good. I created an account, but then it says unable to sign in. I know my username and password, use the same one for every app. So I created a second account when no email arrived when attempting to reset the login info, it did the same thing. The second time it actually logged me in upon making an account, but when I switched apps for a moment's to surf through my photos, it logged me out and that was the end of that. Need to fix this bug so people can log in and stay logged in. I'll have to go back to the Audubon app for now.

After the update it had gone even worse , I'm not able to see the unuploaded checklists that I had saved . It's notifying as 1 but not there after opening it .

S70%
by S####:

I can't really rate this app as when I try to do a checklist no birds show up in the database

It showed my checklists as zero. My uploaded data is not shown

Update: 081017 it's up and running again so happy! One update you guys should consider is when we enter the birds if we can enter the sex right away you have to go back and edit to enter the sex of the birds. . I agree with Sue the app stopped working I uninstalled it reinstalled it and the new app keeps crashing. I'm doing a reinstall again otherwise it can't be used I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S6 and it keeps coming up saying download error I can do an offline list I don't need to do that I have a computer for that I'll try a couple weeks from now to see if it works but there's still a big issue

S70%
by S####:

This app has been essentially broken since the track recording functionality was added. I tried the troubleshooting steps, changing language/changing back to English. Tried uninstall/reinstall. Now I'm having to use the full taxonomy for 7 lists over two days. I can't submit the lists because it won't update the taxonomy. Now we're told to disable app backup, uninstall and reinstall, but that will most likely delete my 7 existing non-submitted lists. Where can I download the pre-location tracking version which worked?

S70%
by S####:

The taxonomy download was broken, it has been fixed now. Once a live track is started its virtually impossible to shut it down without submitting a checklist. No option to link photographs from the phone app. If you need to do anything significant on the checklist you need to sit down with a computer

S70%
by S####:

Only let's me submit half of my observations

S70%
by S####:

Only the checklist added directly by app is shown in the app. The checklist added from website not shown under checklist in the app though those details are added to my ebird data.

it would be nice to have the habileti to see bird sighting like on the web ebird

Good app

I was really enjoying this but lately I can't add new sightings. I restarted my phone, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, everything I could think of. I'm upset because I just had an amazing great horned owl sighting. They have disputed my sightings via email which is also frustrating. This is awful, my whole life list is stored in this useless app. Now I have to transfer everything back to a spreadsheet.

S70%
by S####:

The app is very intuitive and smooth. Creating an submitting checklists is a breeze! The only mildly clunky portion of the app is the section exploring your own profile. It would also be nice if the app allowed you to edit and share checklists, upload media, and add age/sex details intrinsically rather than having to go to a web browser post submission. Overall though, very functional app that operates smoothly.

This was great until the latest update. Now it's useless. Errors downloading taxonomy, cannot use local lists, cannot submit lists. Everything fails. I tried changing the common language to something else and then back to English, as suggested in previous ebird replies, but that causes errors too and doesn't fix the problem. So frustrated! Update: ebird's suggestion worked! Was able to submit my house sparrow sighting as a test.

A great time saver and very easy to use. I recommend this app for anyone who wants a quick and easy way to aid bird conservation and to keep all your lists updated. However, you can't use this app for finding birds, but it VERY helpful for submitting your observations. A great app!!

It was great up until recently. But now the taxonomy list does not load. I did all the troubleshooting including reinstall disabling backup and reinstalling changing languages everything. Please fix app and will get a higher rating. After about an hour of fiddling with it I actually had to delete all backed up and cache data before it corrected itself.

Love this app! Easily keep track of your checklists and sightings while also contributing to one of the biggest, most important citizen science projects in the world! Cornell updates it regularly w/bug fixes & new features. If you run into an issue, don't submit a bad review like recent reviewers did; check the eBird website for app news & contact app support directly.

Can't login despite having no issues on the web version, even after changing the password. Appears the issue may be symbols contained within my username not being compatible for logging into the app. Please look into it and resolve ASAP, otherwise the app is unusable for me

Great app! Also great help from Cornell Lab when checklist download broke during Cornell Lab taxonomy update Aug 2017. All is well

S70%
by S####:

I've been using this app for about 6 months now with zero problems. But after the last update yesterday, I can't use it at all. I get "Error downloading the taxonomy checklist. Try again." I've rebooted the app. I've rebooted my phone. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, all with the same results. No go.

S70%
by S####:

The app worked fine till the latest update, it now cannot add new sightings. I reinstalled it, as per responses to other unhappy birders (while disabling the backup data in Android) and, not surprisingly but nevertheless very annoyingly, all my local saved lists and recent locations on the phone are lost - nothing has been synchronised with the online ebird database (except my totals, as if I need them on the app)! It is sad that the app did not seem to have been tested properly before releasing. Second, can you please add a setting in options/preferences to permanently disable the new feature that automatically records my location (for all new lists). I now need to disable it every time I start a new list, which is a time waster and easy to overlook. No I don't want ebird or any other app to record my location, this is an invasion of my privacy. With the app unreliability and push towards recording more data, I am now looking at alternatives for bird logging.

S70%
by S####:

Highly inconvenient to record locations. How do you expect laymen to use this if even marking a custom location is so difficult.

B70%

The app stopped working after the track your distance upgrade. It will not download the local chesklist!

I have Droid Maxx turbo. Had crash issues but the developers very quickly contacted me and gave me the fix. I did have to uninstall, reinstall & change bird name search option, but no trouble after that! Thank you for the service and I'm excited to use this app more often!

I love this app but I would like to post my observations online. I keep getting an error that the online list can't download. Then I have to do an offline one with the same problem after.

Good app, but a few months ago it started resetting, requiring me to log in again every time I open the app, losing many recent locations this way

New version has crashed twice. Will not download checklist for location, keeps giving error. I have tried on 3 different networks and my cell phone provider. I got a fast response from Cornell and after some testing, the new version is working nicely.

Unable to download checklists. Location services not available. Does the gps work without a data plan?? I have 2 ebird icons on my desktop for some inexplicable reason.

B70%

Have used this app happily for years. Updated it yesterday and now I can't upload my checklist simply because the app refuses to download it's checklist first. I'm so frustrated!!! Buggy. --- [Update: August 7th] - I have amended this review. eBird team replied and gave instructions for a fix. Thank you for being so prompt, eBird team. In this age of phone apps, I've been getting more and more frustrated with encountering more and more frequent bugs. It's good to know your team is so responsive.

Fabulously useful app, and getting better all the time! Does exactly what is promised - data entry in the field. My only problem is with cell tower access - not an app problem. Keep up the good work!

I have enjoyed e-bird mobile for Android since I bought a new phone about a year and a half ago. It is so convenient to be able to list from the field & save my personal locations & also locate nearby hotspots when I am traveling. After the latest update there were some glitches. When I determined other users were having similar problems I uninstalled & re-installed the app. When that didn't work I submitted feedback directly from the app outlining my problem. I received a prompt reply & it fixed the problem! I love using eBird in the field & am extremely happy with customer service. Highly recommend!
