I just needed to jot down random notes, grocery lists etc. This is perfect. It has a straightforward notepad feel. Just turn on word wrap if you are using this for that. I can see myself using this for minor word processing as well. The only drawback is no autocap at the beginning of sentences. A very small price to pay for something so useful . A true pocket knife for droid.

I wanted to print a text file but can't as there's no print button. Otherwise, great app. (Edit: App doesn't look nice in Samsung Experience 8.x. I wish this app was updated with a choice to select a different "AppTheme")

Basic text editor, open source, but not updated since 2012, f&g Android releases mentioned in what's new, Oreo, nauget and marshmallow are current... I could get off my lazy ass and do some coding with source, but I'd rather not... Must have gotten a life/wife, job, kids, dog (ate hw, etc)...

Such a pleasant experience in contrast to the note-writing apps delivered as crapware with almost any phone. I do not need someone to force me into a specific bulky way of structuring my text when I use a pen and I don't need it on my phone. And using plaint text files is as future proof as ink n paper, instead of using a 'never heard of' file format garanteed to be gone and forgotten in a couple of years.

D70%
by D####:

Well, I haven't found anything better yet. The UI isn't overkill and it's pretty snappy on my crappy tablet. Good for coding and taking notes.

I am a writer and this app is simple and does its job better than more advanced word processing apps. It does have a character limit which I hope will be removed in a future update, but it is my go-to text editor on Android right now.

Pros: Ad-free! Interface looks decent. Both the main text editing setting windows. Cons: issues with tabs & indentation: - Missing: use spaces for tabs - No auto-identation. - Doesn't accept tabs from my bluetooth keyboard. Instead tab key simply switches focus on UI controls. Conclusion: not fit for serious work (yet)

But you better make dang sure you save! Because there's NO auto save, and you can never tell when memory pressure will force this app to close. It really really should save the current file and position when closing. It should be impossible to tell if it was forced to close and then reopen.

...but i think i like 'simple text editor' better. At least this was better than Jota for me. I dont like any app that puts eulas or ads in my face first thing. I didn't have any problems like that with this one, so i say it's a good alternative.

Just created a simple html document with this little text editor. If you write your own code its not bad for making files on your phone. Also a good simple text editor with no ads and easy to use.

S70%
by S####:

Simple, quick, and easy to use, though with so much choice out there, the lack of required permissions was the reason I originally chose this app. Spoilt by the lack of a Share option and its inability to Delete files. An addition I'd like would be an option in Settings to select a default folder for "Open" & "Save As" (ie a selectable working folder for TED), along with a separate option to start the app with that folder open.

by C####:

Its runs so slow on a galaxy S4 that I am unable to select text to edit it. Love that it is open source and permissions require no network access. But its usable

S70%
by S####:

It has no ads, making it a good choice for small files. Unfortunately, it becomes unresponsive dealing with bigger files (about over 50kB makes it sluggish).

S70%
by S####:

Simple, lightweight, convenient and easy to use. Love it. Clean, ad-free and open source. Would rate 6 stars if it was possible. Thank you. Edit: seems to have problems opening very large files

S70%
by S####:

Absolutely perfect for quick text capability. Would love to see just one thing added: ability to SHARE with other applications. In my case, I want to be able to send to printer instead of having to need another application to do only this one step.

S70%
by S####:

It's good, expect it would be really awesome if you could set a default directory. My phone's file system is scary, and I don't want to have to navigate it all the time.

S70%
by S####:

does what i need and wih no ads and free. thx. its a shame so many other developers are trying to make a living from a simple ap like this. other note pads had major ads and lag. this app is great and open source. thx

But I get error everytime I try to save to my Micro-SD card, app just wont do it

At first I was kinda skeptical about this new app not knowing if it was even worth the effort. But I installed it and it works fine. Thanks for over coming the can't save in the sd memory chip.

A text editor that does what I want and not what it wants with no flashy unwanted gimmicky features to get in the way but with all the basic features needed. The Matrix theme is perfect as it matches my favoured green text on a black background for command line and text windows. A hang over from my pre-gui days but still, IMO anyway, the best for clarity. Having now added the TED file save folder to my OneDrive auto-sync list this is now my text editor of choice and it's free, YAY :).

S70%
by S####:

It functions well as a text editor with no unnecessary fancy distractions. Unfortunately, its file open/save functions are in need of improvement. Its main drawback is that if you create a new file and forget to save it, you lose it as soon as Android swaps the application out. Also it doesn't remember the last directory and starts from the root each time you want to open a file.

On my galaxy Nexus I used this to make a document. When I went to another app and returned, all my text was gone and I had just a blank document. Tried again and tried to save it to a file, the program crashed also losing my text. I want to like it but losing data like that is a deal breaker.

S70%

Worked well for a long time then one to msny system updates and no longer works correctly. Too bad as it was a nice, simple editor.

E70%
by E####:

I like the simplicity and the nice interface, but it has flaws. I've lost all of my edits when switching back and forth from other apps.

S70%
by S####:

probably user error but a text editor that fails to save seems pretty useless. "Unable to save tmp file" It also fails to save the object file.

Stuck to the needed features and none of this keyboard shortcut crap that instantly turned me off the Turbo Text Editor

U70%

I love this editor, but sadly I must go back to Jota. Ted lacks the ability to backup on autosave, and it lacks the ability to prevent multiple instances from running. I lost a large amount of data when 2 instances of the program were running with the same document open. I hope I can return to Ted in the future...

My single wish is that for an app like this can handle large files with ease.

K70%

I don't really edit files over 500kb. This editor small really does the things I need most, like auto-save and white on black theme. When editing text files, I'm usually jumping in and out of top, mid, and bottom. Jota is great and I wish Ted had more features like Jota, but Jota was just getting too slow and clunky. Now Jota has been replaced. Sorry

I'm not a programmer, but I use text editors for notes and musings...and I muse an awful lot :-D Every time I get a new Android phone, this is one of the first apps I get. I finally broke down and bought a tablet recently and tried a bunch of note apps that other humans recommended to me...maybe I'm just a typical creature of habit, but I blew off the blingy note apps and installed Ted.

Don't get hopes too high, I'm looking for best text, including programming with bonus for special support for as many languages as possible, also extensibility would be big key. However two pro-editors already failed on this that you did right. I'm talking of failing to keep your file(s) open between switching application, then returning to editor. Amazing, but it seems most authors never consider that users multitask, nor even that sudden call also switches from editor task, and then back to it.

Y70%

It's free ad, I love it but it's kind of not support for unicode font (my text file's content is Vietnamese unicode. Plz fix it, Tks a lot for cool free stuff ^^

No ads, clean basic format - Matrix theme is the ONE!

No feature to add a tab, need to add it manualy... not crucial, but can be really helpful in python programming

L70%

Ted is fully supported by talkback for the blind and it will be more awesum if it opens and edits very large text files as well.

I would like to be automaticaly focused into search dialog when I click on search icon. Otherwise i am typing into text.
