About PTSD Coach

PTSD Coach was designed for Veterans and military Service Members who have, or may have, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This app provides users with education about PTSD, information about professional care, a self-assessment for PTSD, opportunities to find support, and tools that can help users manage the stresses of daily life with PTSD. Tools range from relaxation skills and positive self-talk to anger management and other common self-help strategies. Users can customize tools based on their preferences and can integrate their own contacts, photos, and music. This app can be used by people who are in treatment as well as those who are not. PTSD Coach was created by VA’s National Center for PTSD and DoD’s National Center for Telehealth & Technology.

I was in the initial group they built this app around they tweeked it based on what we told them this is truly a vet built app for the vet I give great thanks to the developer Julia who asked us how they could improve on it if u feel it lacks somewhere get ahold of the developer Im sure she will take and input youre suggestions as needed and remember this is for men and wemon who have seen unimaginable horrers people have done to one another and sometimes the horrers we ourselves have commented on others!!!

I was in a program and the National Center for PTSD came by to get suggestions on updating app. I see nothing has changed as of today. It's set up to watch same pictures and same tips. No videos or inter active software.

Garbage app. Spent 2 minutes on it, deleted. Don't know if there is compatibility issues with the S6, but no text showed up on any of the assessment sections. Bland, uninspiring, unhelpful, and disappointing. Perfect example of a VA service.

App was recommended by my therapist. However upon downloading and launching everything looked good until I tried adding images or navigating the app. The application keeps force closing. I tried re-installing but no luck. I got it working for a little while after 5 attempts but still force closes. Still can't add images and the app doesn't disable the sleep settings so when your doing the exercises your phone will go to sleep and you have to restart the exercise due to the audio not working. App needs fixed

Z70%
by Z####:

App will not take my music or photo's. I've reported several times with no response. I think adding daily assessments would be a grand addition. So folks can have a choice of adding more details in their history. I'm removing until the bugs are fixed.

Blank screens or titles without content. Install the Australian version as comments here indicate the US contractor has cashed out; there have been no changes despite many user issues.

This is a good tool to help establish positive coping habits and track overall symptom levels. NOT a replacement for interpersonal support.

Z70%
by Z####:

It helps keep track of your symptoms and triggers good. It makes it easier to show your counselor a track record of your symptoms and some of the exercises do help

I had this app on my iPhone and absolutely loved it and recommended it. I recently switched to a Droid and the app is useless, literally. When I choose a symptom and my distress level, the tools appear but not the directions to use them. Even the inspirational quotes don't appear. I am so disappointed with this app.

by Y####:

Don't even know how this app is because on the pages there is no text. Just a blank grey page. On some of them there's a button to have the blank page be read to me, so there must be something there. Needs to be fixed that's for sure.

I have bad PTSD and was encouraged to find the app until i opened it. All i got was force closes and useless tools that didnt function correctly.

This app worked great for three sessions then shut down and will not work. Removed and reinstalled, same thing, and you wonder why I get stressed out.

Z70%
by Z####:

this app is terribly designed. it's hard to know if pages are even working or what buttons are specifically for what.very confusing to use. there's nothing that guides you in what the app does specifically step by step and how to set it up to cater to you're specific needs. the interface is absoltuyl terrible.

I'm a veteran, am married to a veteran and wanted to check out the app for both of us. I'm also a Certified SCRUM master and professional software tester. Within 2 minutes of using the application I have found three critical issues, that if I were managing this project, the app would not have deployed in the first place - including app hangs and crashes. You understand that despite failing veterans by releasing the application in this state, you have also set a level of poor quality for future apps...

What is Learr and how can I sign an agreement that doesn't show up on my phone? Seems to have significant flaws.

ive used this before. it helped me alot w keeping track of symptoms. it works great so far. I just put it on this phone.

Every time I try to open the app, it keeps turning off and wont move past the initial set up screen. Not worth it

K70%

Every single time I try to set this up it crashes on my galaxy s3. It may be a phenomenal app but I will never know. Only was able to complete the assessment.

I downloaded this app to check out the symptom management part. It was confusing to me. There were some parts where it wss just pictures but no direction and the voice on the imagery was not relaxing. Check out the Australian version of this app if you want good symptom management skills. Just remember the phone number will be different if you need to contact somebody in America.

Crashes on opening. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting. No use if it won't open. LG

K70%

I feel like this was a 5 minute time waster. maybe it doesn't work on galaxy S3 but under manage symptoms the tip for sleeplessness was a pic of a clock face. anger has a pic of a tree, suggests "grounding".Um, nice tip? Relax exercises are only a one-time instruction how to do. Use SuperBetter app!

Too bad you can't rate it negative stars. Like going for a walk or calling a friend never occurred to anyone. Shame on the VA for pretending this is helpful or innovative.

The App is Great.. But is waaaay too big, at 25MG. This should be automatically sent to Storage Cards, not kept On Phones..

I tried to do set up and it crashes. I've also had problems interacting with play backs like power images screen.

This app needs to be rebuilt and tested on kit kat as it goes to write or retrieve memory from temporary generic memory which... doesn't exist anymore = crash. All the time, can't get through anything w/o crashing. No image add, song add, assessment, nothing is ever saved.

When you're having an anxiety attack is not the time to be messing with phone settings to keep it from stopping.

Crashes every time I try to add a "soothing picture". I don't feel soothed at all!

I am a Marine Combat Vetran and I really find help in this app but when I try to add contacts to the support group it stops running every time. Please fix and thank you.

Does, however, make one paranoid about what DID download?

Z70%

I just installed it and when I opened it, it took me to the License Agreement. There was no License Agreement to read. I will not accept till I see one on there.

This app sucks. If the VA wants to make a better app, they need to make one that EVERYONE can use. Not just one thing. How about a myhealthyvet app??

First three steps in setup failed to work. Sent error report. Do not recommend however PEcoach is a rock solid app that works on Galaxy s4 phone

Be nice to be able to delete pictures. When you tap the exercise you want it doesn't go to it.

While "listening to it talk" the app. times-out. Update should control this problem.. How about making it able to be put right on SD card..

Great idea but still needs lots of work. App is prone to freezing, will not upload pictures, keeps closing.

My one recommendation is SLOW DOWN the relaxation. I'd like to breathe slowly, not hyperventilate.

...but it just doesn't work well now. Use it with clients for symptom management and the exercises cannot be viewed, now. Never worked on iPhone. Bummer, as it is a well thought out and helpful selfishness assessment tool.

25mb on my phone, allow to be written to sd card. Takes to much space. Then I'll try it.
