What are users saying about Rice IRC Client

by R####:

Unintuitive, broken notifications, lack of basic functionality...

R70%
by R####:

Does actually support passworded servers, but that part of the config is named like it's the NickServ password.

R70%
by R####:

it looks better than all other clients, but lacks ZNC/bouncer support so it's absolutely useless to me. For this to work you just need one more field: server password.

R70%
by R####:

Looks like it could be nice, but it isn't something I can currently use... First, you can't use custom / commands (/quote, for example), and second you can't set a server password. I need one or the other to connect to ZNC. I understand this is a beta and will wait for the full thing and this review will change accordingly

V70%
by V####:

I've tried a few irc apps, they're all pretty much the same with the same ugly ui. Rice irc is really light and it has the cleanest looking ui out of all of the apps that I've tried, and I haven't had any problems with instability or anything like that. I'm still trying to find an irc app that'll let you search or browse for irc channels without having to type in the whole server name, AFAIK an app like this doesn't exist, but it would make it easier for connecting to irc channels have long ridiculous names

T70%
by T####:

Only works on reliable networks. Not on cellular data networks or WiFi networks on old routers.

R70%
by R####:

I really really want to love this irc client, I think the text window layout for chatting is one of the best, but it's beta and the bugs show and make the client close to unusable at times.

R70%
by R####:

When I close an IRC connecrion, it crashes.

N70%
by N####:

Appears to be abandoned; No updates and no support Working good so far, quick and easy to use. Only issue is it says "No connection is active" in Notification Bar, even though I'm connected to 4 channels on 2 different servers.

Z70%
by Z####:

There is no /ignore feature that enables you to block people whose posts you don't want to see.

Z70%
by Z####:

Initial config is a bit much. I shouldn't need to set the real name or user name. It should have ( or detect) some sane defaults. Its also missing color support.

Z70%
by Z####:

It's a working smoothly. No bugs at all. Clean looking. I really like it. You must build a stable version.

Z70%
by Z####:

The only weaknees that it got is that there is no facility to mention someone's name without typing it completely.

This is a great app my fav IRC android client but has a few problems e.g. the notifcation bar message, what is the point of it? It only says that there is no connection even when there is a connection. The app is also a bit buggy. When is the next update going to be?

Z70%
by Z####:

Minimal, easy, small, and just beta. When You add a new features, it will be the best irc client ever...for android.

Z70%
by Z####:

When I close an IRC connecrion, it crashes.

R70%
by R####:

Two issues. One, it never alerts me of messages when people say things in the room, and I didnt see an option to have it alert. Two, auto join. No option, much needed. Other than that, is a pretty decent irc client.

R70%
by R####:

Just an option to choose the font I'd like to use and it'd be perfect, :) The client itself is smooth, fast and fits well into holo styling - definitely worth trying out if you do IRC.

R70%
by R####:

Given that the app does not let you join chatrooms, the app is just broken. There is no point in using it.

R70%
by R####:

Stops working when disconnecting from a network, specifically a znc instance. All else is great. Great ui and everything.

U70%
by U####:

Configuration is very limited, and some functionality isn't, well, functional. Also, no matter what I do, my notifications bar shows 'No connection is active'. Otherwise, it's decent. Perhaps with continued development it'll hit the spot.

K70%
by K####:

This app is in its beta stage of development, and though I have had no issues with joining channels, servers, etc, the lack of additional features is somewhat disappointing. The app is beautiful compared to other Android-based IRC clients, but due to its lack of features, it's hard to love this app. I'd love to see the developer start to shape this app more into a full client, and definitely add sync support for credentials/channels. If both of these conditions are met, I will easily give this app five stars, and make it my client of choice, but until then, I'll have to stick to a desktop client.

K70%
by K####:

as title says. that's a pretty big basic functionality that is missing

K70%
by K####:

Only gripe is the lack of passworded servers which will enable things like ZNC to be connect able.

K70%
by K####:

Looks nice but missing a lot of settings and functionality that should come standard with every irc client. Will check back once stable version is released.

K70%
by K####:

Add hide join/part messages option

D70%

Good UI design. No color support and not exactly customizable. This is still beta though. So extra 1 star. Please keep up the good work.

K70%
by K####:

best irc app ive ever seen, keep up the good work!

K70%
by K####:

Beautiful app. For simple IRC usage it's fantastic. Would gladly pay to get additional features and bug fixes!

K70%
by K####:

But it's heading in the right direction

J70%
by J####:

This is something that no Irc clients seem to have but its something I really want

J70%
by J####:

Smooth UI, seems to keep a solid connection. I recommend this to android users on my network since it's small filesize, ad-free and easy to start using. Needs extensions developed to add in new features though...

N70%
by N####:

This app was useless and did not work.

B70%

Then it's perfect...

K70%
by K####:

Doesn't support servers with password

Y70%
by Y####:

Doesn't clearly say it's a beta anywhere. That's all I'm judging it on. It gets a SINGLE STAR from me.

My only wish is that it had ZNC bouncer support. Other than that it's great!

C70%

R70%
by R####:

I love using this app and only have a couple gripes with it. First, it would be great if there was an on screen user list and second, when you're pinged and the app isn't open, it crashes. Other than that it's great.
