This is the electronic press photo book that contains 210 photos of the devastated area of 50 days right after the great eastern Japan earthquake.

On March 2011, the big earthquake and the massive tidal wave (also known as tsunami) attacked the east coast of Japan, and Fukushima Prefecture was one of the areas where its lifeline was severely damaged. The earthquake and tsunami had produced numerous casualties, and left a deep scar on Fukushima Prefecture.

Another misfortune followed. TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant’s accident occurred. All residents of Fukushima were threatened by the “invisible fear” of the Nuclear Power Plant, which was believed to be “safe”. Prime Minister said the cold shutdown had been achieved, but still a large number of residents could not go back to their home and had lost their living by the radioactive ingredients which had already emitted. Radiation doses force us to be anxious and to live inconvenient lives every day.

Fukushima Minpo published the news photo book recorded 50 days after the disaster.
A row of houses disappeared from the village, the town covered with rubbles, the farms turned into a sea of mud. The sorrow and pain of victims descended from these hideous tragedies. On the other hand, the great bonds of residents and regions gave the assistance to face the difficulties. We got emboldened by warm words of encouragement and many supports from various regions in and out of Fukushima Prefecture.

We think that we must memorize the great disaster, take it to our hearts, and hand it down to the next generations. Also, we must prevent from being victims or damaged. We believe this is the requiem for people who were victimized in this disaster.

How to use this App
You can change photos by flicking a display.
You can also enlarge photos by either pinch in, out or double tapping a display.
When you press the table of contents, the headings will be shown up on your screen, and you may tap those headings to see the photos.
When you press a thumbnail button, thumbnails of pictures will appear on your screen, and you may tap those thumbnails to see photos.
