Ignore the low score, 1 stars are mostly from the idiots who don't realize this app is for people who can read japanese. Ebookjapan is the best app for reading manga and light novels in japanese. It's drm-free, has a huge collection of books, has amazing discounts all the time ranging from 40% to 90%, and there are even many free books you can try before making a purchase.

It's a fine app but there's this one particular folder that doesn't even a name and can't be deleted. Combined with bad UI and awful translation of the app (and this playstore page), I think I'm being reasonable with 3 stars. But do note that ebook japan is a great source of Japanase book. If only this app is as great as the web...

where is the search button? or am I supposed to scroll through hundreds of manga???

As a student of Japanese this helped me a lot. Largest selection of Japanese high resolution manga at the same price as Japan with good enough creative UI though a little hard to use sometimes. Like it a lot! The manga themselves are in Japanese so keep this in mind if you are considering to download. 良いアプリだ！

Unfortunately I get an error with everything I try to download and cannot read anything.

Question: How am I suppose to do if I only want to delete downloaded books data from my device, not entirely delete it from cloud too?

Latest update comes with some kind of timer that deletes all downloaded books if you haven't synched in a while. Lost all my downloads in a trip without warning. Now I have nothing to do in downtimes until I get back home or find a Wi-Fi that I can download everything again. Horrible. Instead of deleting, why not make them inaccessible until account is synched again? Or give a warning that books will be deleted in x amount of time? Otherwise the app is okay, clunky and unintuitive at times but the store has good deals and point systems. Wish they would fix UI issues and this deletion timer though.

Terrible. Not only is the reader janky and not user friendly, the instructions were obviously translated wrong. Only wished they let me have access to the Japanese version, or better yet raw files so I won't have to deal with this flawed reader.

Great app to get digital manga, if you can read kanji. There is a good selection of free and paid manga to choose from. I use it because I don't have room for physical copies and it's very convenient.

Latest update still crashes app. Tried opening books, but error message says to close app and restart device. Still crashes after reboot! Please fix!

I really love this app.The only reason I had to give it 4 stars is because I haven't found an option to store downloaded manga on SD card. I have 16GB internal storage which is very full up. The manga I've downloaded so far is 3.17GB... Why can't I store the manga on my 128GB SD card??? It makes it harder for me to want to purchase more manga when I have no internal storage space left. :-S

oo i'm so happy to have found legal, drm-(almost)-free access to japanese-language books. the newest update fixed my crashing issues, so i'm back to reading! yays!

When opening books, the app crashes and closes. When starting again, sends a error report and the whole crash process starts again. Reinstalled and update latest version fixed problems.

This is exactly what I've been looking for! It's basically a kindle for Japanese books. My one wish would be an option to have yomigana on the kanji so that people who can't read all kanji like me can still freely enjoy all the books and manga

It seems that this app is not support on andriod version 6.0.1 yet, on my first device when I opened any book that I have purchase it's said " error reading file unable to read book. there is a problem in the page. please contact the support " but I can open anybook normally on my second other device that running on andriod version 4.4.2 Hope your team will investigate and fix it very soon Regards Jittinun

The app works fine and I have no complain about the functionalities of this app, but I don't like its design because it looks really boring. Since many other apps have been updated to a modernized looking like material design, so I hope this app will also be updated soon and look better.

the recent update makes the app much simpler to use, and i am happy to finally have a legal route for getting ahold of native-language material in the States.

UI have become much better. I'll really love it if you make an option to store books data in SD card, so I can download books as much as I want.

Awesome application to read Japanese books and magazines. I love it. Especially someone lives in overseas like me.

Great app for getting Japanese texts in the Japanese language. Kinda annoyed the store has to open in a separate browser but thats not a big deal. I understand genuine complaints and giving the app a low rating for it but not if that comlaint is that the app isnt in English. The point of this app is to be in Japanese. It is a Japanese ereader for Japanese text if you cannot read Japanese or have no interest in doing so then dont download the app and dont complain if u do download it, u look stupid honestly

Don't listen to the 1 stars, this is a great app and possibly the only legal way to get Japanese ebooks overseas

This is only the reader with few sample books. But purchasing actual books (novels, manga) is easy even from outside of Japan. Requires credit/debit card though, no google wallet or paypal support. No need to fake address or location. Books seem to cost same as physical ones. However manga resolution seems to be less than what modern tablets are capable of and as such small font in mangas is difficult to read. The reader has some usability issues too, but nothing serious. Anyway highly recommended for novels.
