About Wehe

Do you want to know if your carrier is violating net neutrality? Wehe tells you if this is the case, and how much they are slowing down (or speeding up) specific apps.

By running these tests, you will also help us create a public database of carrier behavior worldwide. This can help you decide which carrier to use in the future, based on the performance they give to your favorite apps.

Help inform the net neutrality debate by downloading and running our app! More details about the app at http://dd.meddle.mobi.

This app is developed by researchers from Northeastern University and The University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Please excuse us if you encountered any bugs or crashes. We tried our best to make this app stable, and all crashes will be sent to our server for future improvement. No personal information will be included in the report.

Please be aware that this app might not support your carrier if it uses a network device that interferes with our tests. For more information, please check out our website!

Confusing app. The App needs a FAQ. How is the App running a test on Netflix, if I don't have the Netflix app installed on my phone??

Would like to see additional source options for things like gaming or P2P as well as add-on effects such as ad-blocking

Don't really understand what this app does. It randomly selected 7 different apps on my device, 2 of which I don't even have on my device so why it would select those, I don't know. I'm not sure how to read the results either. I gave it 5 stars because I'm sure this app will be useful for many people. As for me ,guess I'm to stupid to understand it.

So after testing, it appears AT&T throttlesDOWN by 50% on my You Tube and Netflix. 35% ThrottleDOWN on NBC Sport and Vimeo. AT&T must have major interests in Amazon, Spotify, and Skype because ZERO Differentiation with them. I am patiently waiting for the version of "Wehe" that can run test every App on any OS.

As a former telecom engineer, I had thought about this type Of app years ago. Only recommendation is to make it easier to share results on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Requires stable connection with low jitter. Inconclusive and non-reproducible results with moderate or weak connectivity. Doesn't adequately detect these suboptimal conditions. Additionally, app isn't transparent about data usage. Detection of anomalies results in repeated testing without consent, quickly eating up bandwidth. App does provide a data usage estimate in the bottom right corner, but the meaning of this number isn't properly communicated. Multipliers, failure to specify units or specific meanings for quantities, and general lack of labels all complicate the interface and contribute to lack of transparency surrounding data usage. What is the "time" field? What are its units? If it's an ETA in seconds or minutes, it's wildly inaccurate. App fails to communicate the meaning of settings and whether they are meant to be user-adjustable. If this weren't a research app, I would give it two stars, but a strong need for this research exists, so I'm giving four stars to encourage refinement of the app

It seems to do what is advertised. I found that Comcast has no restrictions, and Tmobile restricts the big content providers you might expect. I would give 5 stars if the app was capable of allowing the user to test for restrictions of any content provider of choice. Overall, I would recommend.

Just discovered Sprint is throttling download speed in my YouTube app by 50%! This app is brilliant. Thank you. Look forward to even more apps being able to be tested, like Hulu and Apple Music. That'd be great.

I wanted to give this app a chance, but for some reason even the older versions wont boot on my phone. Tried clearing the cache and even reinstalling, but it wont work. Plz help guys

Doesn't work. Crashes immediately. Nice idea, but...

Interesting app Verizon passed today no difference in all 7 tests. Not sure if in that it is testing spectrum which is providing the Wi-Fi as well or not. A little more details on what's going on would be nice.

A tool to test carrier claims. How long before the carriers figure it out and skew the results? Until then it's game on!

D70%

Doesn't work. I use t-mobile on a note 3. App crashed immediately.

D70%

It tested a preset list of apps, only one of which I even had, but there doesnt seem to be a way to add and test apps from my phone such as my browser or music streaming app or email clients to check them

Works great. Verizon is throttling YouTube and Netflix by 50%. Very handy having this info to back up complaints.

A great app, too bad the FCC speedtest doesn't incorporate these great ideas. Nexus 6 and Cox Communications.

D70%
by D####:

Pretty good app. Showed me that T-Mobile is somehow more scummy than Comcast. Love the app.

D70%
by D####:

Great app. No throttling for now, but with this I'll be able to keep my ISP honest.

D70%
by D####:

I have not tried yet but I can't wait to see how net neutrality is screwing me

D70%
by D####:

Discovered TMobile is throttling my Amazon connection by ~75% and my YouTube connection by ~90%, definitely worth trying the app out just to make sure you chose the right ISP.

D70%
by D####:

So the ONLY option is to grant permission for you to use my data? That isn't a choice. That is a false choice. Instead if decline, the button should read UNINSTALL. I removed your app because my consent is coerced. Having a confusing and LONG TOS demanding forced participation is wrong.

D70%
by D####:

Don't understand why I cannot choose the apps to test, I dont even use the apps that were chosen automatically

D70%

I think everyone should have listened to me about net neutrality

Being informed! Good stuff. Love being able to help with a worthwhile project.

Simple to use and only a few minutes to get results. Can you add Hulu as a tested application? Thanks!

D70%

Thank you for the unique app. Spectrum is not throttling me, at least that is what this app tells me. I have no reason not to believe this to be true.

Very useful. Consider adding more popular service simulations like twitch perhaps?
