About Nearby Explorer Online

Nearby Explorer Online is a GPS app designed for use by people who are blind. It is a free version of our full-featured GPS app, Nearby Explorer.
The app uses online maps and Google Places, so a constant data connection is required. It does not provide directions to places or information about nearby intersections, or include onboard maps. For these features and more, see Nearby Explorer.
The app works by letting you select from different location related options about what to announce as you move. These include typical items like street name, address, and nearby places as well as the distance and direction to them. All announcements are optional. All of this information is shown on the main screen and is available at any time.
You may also create favorites, name them, and share them back to the Google Places service so others can benefit from the places you mark and identify.
Nearby Explorer Online includes a transit feature that provides detailed mass transit schedules for many metropolitan areas in the U. S. and Canada. When you open the Transit view, Nearby Explorer Online shows a list of all the transit stops near your current location and tells you the distance and direction to each stop along with the time and travel direction of the next bus or train serving that stop. When you pick a stop, you get a list of all the buses or trains serving that stop, the time they are scheduled to arrive, and the direction of travel. You may follow any of the trips through their entire route. You get the time, location, and direction of each stop along the trip.
The Geobeam feature lets you point the device and receive audio, haptic, and verbal feedback about points of interest. The haptic feedback lets you focus on a point and follow the vibration feedback to the marked location.
You may virtually move to any area and search, or use the transit maps for that area.

I was lookkkkkking for an aaapp that would offer me similaaaaaar to Bliiindsquarre, and I thought I had it with this app. It worked well the first 2 times, announccing busstops and intersections as I travelled. Over the last couple days, however, the app has become very unreliable. It only gets within a mile in accuracy, and often stops working completely. If the goal of this app was to get me to buy the full version, they missed it by... Oh... 1.2 miles, or maybe just 200 yards.

I absolutely love this app! It's just like having a sighted person sitting beside me telling me what places are coming up and what streets I'm approaching. It's also quite customizable and being an Android user I definitely appreciate that. I would highly recommend installing, as I don't think you'll be disappointed at all.
