I had no issues logging on. App opened and logged on both in less than 5 seconds. You CAN deposit checks using the app. In fact, it appears you can do everything that can be done on the website (except A2A transfers). This app is much better than the previous version.
The app works, but the login is a pain. I understand about wanting to be secure but let me please not have to enter my login everytime I open the app. Give me the option to store it. If someone is not an idiot and using a decent password, that should be all you need on your personal (locked) phone. Fingerprint authentication would be even better, this is my only banking app without that feature.
The current app is using an outdated and now deprecated API for the camera function in check deposits. This causes the image on some phones like my Nexus 5x to be flipped upside down. This makes it almost impossible to line up a check image. The correct API has been available for some time now and this is a very well documented and known issue with certain hardware. If the app developer isn't using current API calls in part of the app, how can we trust that the rest of the app is coded right?
deathly slow at everything, won't scan a check properly, looks horrible and doesn't support pin or fingerprint usage. This app is convincing me to change banks.
Decent app for my simplistic banking needs however I can never successfully deposit a check with the app any more. I use to be able to with no problems, but now they never go through. I've done everything in my power to make sure I went about this the correct way, with the best pictures I could take within the 4 corners. If you want to step up your game coastal, then make this feature better and stop making me regret I use this credit union.
App is good for checking balances or recent charges. But the check deposit feature (which would be amazing!) stopped working for me a few weeks ago. I've had a fresh from the ledger check and the app says "wrinkled" or "bent edges" on a check flatter than a wall. Please fix :(
I've attempted to use this to deposit checks and keep getting errors. After calling support, I'm convinced they have no access to technical personnel to resolve issues with the app.
I wish I could use a different app with Coastal accounts. This one hangs almost every time I deposit a check on my tablet. And it has trouble getting the back of the check in focus.
This app has nothing to offer. If I wanted to just see what my balances are there are far more useful apps that allow me to see my balances from multiple accounts and banks all at once. The draw for me was the mobile deposit feature which would make this app worthy of use. Sadly it has only worked once for me the very 1st time I used it. All other attempts at using this feature resulted in the app crashing. All it's doing is taking a picture and transferring the photo with the data.......why so difficult? Until that is worked out this app is essentially worthless. One star is the minimum, otherwise it would be 0.
My girlfriend and I both have Google phones (Nexus 6p and 5x). Everytime we log onto the coastal application it requires our security information. Every. Single. Time. Very frustrating. Other than that, I can do what I need to but the application is very slow and laggy. I'm getting 50 Mbps so its not my connection and every other banking app I have on my phone works no problem
The deposit feature is literally getting worse and worse with each update. I found out that one of my checks from 6 month ago didn't get diposited for some reason, and the bank wasn't able to tell me who the check was from even though it was manually rejected. The new check deposit feature is horrid. In full ligh it is near impossible to take a picture of the back of the check. No way to turn on the flash in app to help the camera focus. When you tap the screen, app just captures picture without warning.
Excellent CU/Bank, excellent app too. I have tried the mobile deposit in various 'big' banks, none of them worked for me. Here it was a cinch ! I see no shortcomings at all in this app. Even blurred/badly lit images are accepted....terrific. Keep up the good work ! Removed a star because app refuses to exit
Fingerprint options should be available. My password is fairly long so storing it would be even better at the very least. At least I'm no longer prompted to answer security questions. However mobile deposits are THE WORST I've ever seen. Considering how rarely I use this option, it'd be nice if it works as expected. I'll be glad to help dev test it because I have submitted a variety of good quality pics but the app has given me no less than 3 different errors forcing me to go to the bank. Please fix!
This app has a bug that does not affect everyone, but when it happens you will no longer be able to deposit checks. The problem is that when you try to take a picture of a check, the app simply restarts. Check deposit worked fine for months for me, but once this occurred it keeps doing the same thing. Uninstalling/reinstalling does not help. Coastal is aware of this problem but apparently aren't doing anything about it. Several times someone was supposed to call me about the issue but they never did. I can use this app and deposit checks on an android tablet. The problem has the look of the app not having access to the camera on the phone, but checking application settings shows that it does have access to the camera. The disappointing thing is not that there's a bug, it's that they aren't doing anything about it.
Does the job. Mostly use for check deposit, the default to savings is a shame, why not remember where I normally deposit? Its never member savings...
The app needs to be optimized... Starts very slowly and interface seems more cluttered than the previous.
On my new phone, OnePlus 3, the image quality after I take a picture is so low that it looks like a blown up thumbnail. The deposit doesn't go through. This was really the only use I have for the app, and it doesn't work any more.
The app is so secure that no one, including you, has access to it.
Can't view credit card transactions, little else matters. Also after logging in, I later clicked on a link to which it responded, that I didn't have the correct credentials to view that page. What's that all about? Then it presented a link to continue, clicked on that, and app completely hung. No way to get out. Killed the app window, but couldn't log in again. Had to reboot phone to get back into this app...
Maybe you all aren't smart enough to work it...
This app works poorly and everything about it looks fake and unsafe, compare to the old app.
Had to install this today after the CU "updated" their online banking and wouldn't let me log on to their site with their old app. This app installed without removing the old app and so I had two Coastal apps on my phone. I went into my phone's Application Manager to uninstall the old app, and looked at the version numbers so I could remove the old one. I uninstalled what I thought was the old app, picking the app with the lowest version number (2.x.y.zzz). NOT! That was the new app, so I had to uninstall the other app (3.1.x.y.zz) and reinstall the new app from the Play Store. Then I opened the new app and entered my userID and password (which I had changed earlier today using the new PC browser version. And then I waited, and waited, and waited. Good lord, doesn't the Credit Union test their new code? Finally, the app let me in to see my account balances. After taking a look, I decided to log out. After logging out, I hit the back key on my phone to close the app. Guess what, this app does not close if you hit the back key (like almost every other app I've used). You have to hit the home key to clear your screen of this unfriendly app and your financial data!
Instead of updating the app, they made us get a whole new one. It's no better than the one from before which is an impressive feat considering how bad it was then. Totally changed the login method so that took a while. Love everything about coastal other than the fact that their app is horrible.
Moving past "Why did we have to download a new app, instead of an upgrade? ", I mostly use an app like this for check deposit, and for that it has some problems. First, it isn't immediately obvious that you just touch anywhere in the image of a check to take a picture, but that's how it works. Then the fact that it always resets the account to your primary savings between each check deposit is inconvenient. Relative to the old app and to my Schwab app, this one is very picky about shadows.
Launch day was painful, but this is by far the most insightful and configurable view of my finances that I've seen since I first used MS Money back in the day. I love the Spending analytics and the budgeting functions. Well worth the upgrade bumps! Having near real time access to this info on the go is amazing!
I already have a password and security questions. why do I have to change that? one of the sets of new security Qs literally did not contain a single question I could answer. I'm not married, I don't have kids, I don't like sports, and is there ANYONE who actually knows what city their grandfather was born in? and then the stupid picture and title - what? I gave up at that point. I'm never going to remember that and it's completely unnecessary. this app is terrible and has unnecessary and stupid "security"
This app as a primary banking tool is horrendous. After 3 failed check deposits in a row - accepted on phone but rejected by bank a day later saying unreadable - I've decided to close my accounts with CFCU. I moved out of NC a little over a year ago and using only this app for check deposits has been an exercise in frustration. The worst part of it all is one of the rejected checks I disposed of, so now I have to contact the issuer to get another. The image CFCU sent me when I requested it - to get the check number for reference purposes - was 10x worse than the thumbnail visible in the app. Save yourself the headache and don't bother with this app. It's become progressively worse over the years.
Getting the app set up is fairly painless. The agreement is far too massive (that's not the app's fault, but have a message saying it's easy to find someplace reasonable - I may want to read it but not right now). Pasting into input fields seems a little temperamental, probably related to ui performance issues others have reported, but generally the interface feels ok to me (nexus 6). No one wants to needlessly replace an app and the risk was high - you didn't screw it up, so full marks.
Setup is cumbersome and security precautions can be a pain. I agree with another post about security questions that don't apply or to which you probably won't know the answer, but I'd rather this problem than poor security. Certainly not worth closing accounts over. The Tap feature to view account summary without logging into app is very handy. For the initial release it's off to a good start and they will hopefully address some of the bugs and concerns down the road.
This is the best version of Coastals mobile access app i have used. I tried using the previous version but got frustrated with having to continually get an activation code. This app is easy to use and shows the info you need the most on the main page. Navigation is easy as well. I can easily use this app inplace of the website any day for what i need.
After signing up this evening on the new web site, I installed the app and logged right in, seeing my security picture I set up on the web site. It works as fast as any other app where I have to sign in. I don't have a check to deposit, so I can't try that feature, but I found it quickly enough in the menus. Its nice to have all these features on my phone, for which I used to have to use a PC. Minus a star for the "back" key doing nothing on the main Accounts page, and for giving this app a lower version number than the previous app.
I liked the old one. They really dumbed this one down to the point of almost being ineffective. It is however the only game in town.
Long setup process, bad user experience, changes your security image. On my way to close my accounts there. That will fix the issue
It works fine so far. Minus one star for the bit of lag with the user interface. Not the prettiest either, but I guess that's subjective. Initial setup wasn't too bad. Haven't played around with it enough to see if the features have improved. I'll update my review if I run into anything else.
Don't see any problem yet. Take about 5 mins to reset password and security options.
This is a great bank but their apps just hurt in the usability and customer experience category
It is a new app. Nothing life altering, nor so complicated that you have to give up on life. Works at least as well and with the same features as before. Change happens. Build a bridge, and get over it.
Makes me feel like the app is fake/unsafe
take a great web site and adequate mobile app. take away all the bookkeeping options, the clean look and feel, farm it out to a third party provider, add a bunch of PII to the third party database, slap on your logo and call it "new and improved." This app, and especially the web site, which is now little more than an overgrown mobile app, is a huge step backwards. Someone thought "mobile first" meant mobile only. Then they blew that...
Insists that I upgrade to new app every time I login. I must re-download the same app?? Please fix or bring back the old.
