About Chickens: Scared by Torpedo
On June 19th 1878, when photography was a still and slow medium, Eadweard Muybridge managed to photograph a horse galloping at full speed. The Horse in Motion, shows Sallie Gardner running at a 1:40 gait over the Palo Alto track. From this first encounter between a man with a camera and a running horse, a long series of experiments developed.
Who was Eadweard Muybridge? What drove him? How did it feel to make such fundamental discoveries?
Prize-winning filmmaker Chris Teerink delves into the life of Muybridge. To understand the man who stopped time, Teerink visits archives, museums and locations, preparing for his movie that will be released early 2017. Teerink will be carrying out a number of Muybridge’s experiments again and record them in 3D.
Unlike Muybridge – who left no notes – Chris Teerink documents his research meticulously and started writing short stories about his findings. From June 2015 to December 2016, every fortnight a new story will be posted, providing insight into the world of the 19th century pioneer as well as the research and work praxis of a contemporary filmmaker intrigued by his personality.
