About Verba-Android Latin Dictionary

Verba-Android is an offline Latin-English dictionary application for the android platform based on An Elementary Latin Dictionary (1895) by Charlton T. Lewis.

The application accepts any inflectional form of a word, then presents a list of all matching inflections and lemmas, from which the definition may be accessed.

Size of Application: the apk is about 25MB, since it contains a compressed database holding the dictionary and morphological data. On first use, this database is unpacked and requires about 89MB of storage. Given this, it is recommended that you have at least 114MB of free space (though after database unpacking you will only use around 89MB of space).

Verba-Android is free software, released under the GPL. Source is available at: https://github.com/grantham/verba-android

Wotks as an offline Perseus dictionary. Very light and easy to use

O70%
by O####:

Good for looking up words when you're unsure of the principal parts, or for discovering what tense/mood you're looking at. Gives vowel quantities as well as many citations. For some reason, the field for entering queries is white-on-grey, making the text almost invisible. Definitions are sometimes not found even though the app correctly parses the word. Ian D. Scott's implementation of Whitaker's Words is a better-maintained alternative for looking up inflected forms, though the definitions are more basic.

Q70%
by Q####:

Has almost every word I look up. Extremely useful and well designed. Excellent parser as well. Only gripe is the grey search bar with white letters.

X70%
by X####:

Would have been five stars but the colours make it almost unusable.

The app has excellent functionality but an oddly unfriendly interface. The input bar is extremely narrow with grey print on a grey bar. The entries are white on black and there's a distracting background. You can see it all on the sample pages. It's not a good choice for frequent use.

The only thing I would change is the font color. .. and for all I know it is user-changeable, only I don't know how!

Works great. The only latin dictionary I've found that finds all the words I've searched no matter the form. I even tried some popular paid ones. I have a second only because this one doesn't have moon reader integration.

A wonderful way to access Lewis offline. My only suggestion concerns the entry bar: white text on light gray is very hard to read. I would love to hack that, but don't know how.

I really really want this app to work but try as I might, it keeps saying I don't have enough free MB on my phone even though I have 11GB of extra space lying around. Looks like a great app though! Would be greater if I could actually use it!
