About Refuge Restrooms

REFUGE finds safe restrooms for transgender, intersex, and gender nonconforming individuals.

Features:

- Tap a map pin to see more information about a restroom, and be given directions to that restroom.
- Select the navigate icon in the top right bar to be given text directions to the selected restroom.
- Blue map pins = handicap accessible restrooms, red map pins = not handicap accessible.
- Use the search bar to zoom to a specific address and view restrooms nearby - great for everyday use or travel.
- Don't see a location in your area? Tap the drawer button in the top left and select "add bathroom" to add a new listing to refugerestrooms.org.
- Works best with GPS location enabled

Access to safe restrooms is an important transgender rights issue - REFUGE seeks to aid this mission. Visit refugerestrooms.org for more information.

Kinda wish the creators were more responsive. Been trying to clarify something by asking on social media. Cool idea but feel like its been abandoned?

Q70%
by Q####:

honestly this app has made me and other feel happy.

Q70%
by Q####:

With the app I am not able to add a lavatory or search a specific location, it only sends me to the nearest one where I am at that moment (which is usually not even the nearest one, which is why I wanted to add my current location). I emailed them about that and haven't heard back yet. Is someone still running this?

N70%
by N####:

map only has sydney city outside of that..theres nothing except parra doesnt matter..maybe website better than app.

Great idea, would love to see many more locations added :)

I love the designer of this. You're an angel. Thanks for looking out for us

Q70%

Im an ally that downloaded this so I could help the community. It's a wonderful idea in concept, would love to see it work a little better.

Q70%
by Q####:

This is unnecessary garbage. This is perpetuating mental retardation by making it seem okay.

U70%

Didn't list even one bathroom in the UK and I couldn't add any

Great app

Q70%
by Q####:

Far from perfect but how could it possibly be perfect? What it does is it gives you half a chance of not killing your kidneys , and can only get better and better as more people provide more information! Until separate but equal bathrooms are eliminated, this app is a literal lifesaver.

Y70%
by Y####:

I love the concept but it's super buggy. Kept trying to redirect me 5 miles away to a bathroom when I was in the parking lot of somewhere with a neutral bathroom. Assuming this was due to a lack of info, I went to enter it only for it to have already been there? Needs work.

N70%
by N####:

Great idea, but when I went to submit a bathroom to kept blanking out everything I entered and saying I forgot to include something when I'd put info in every box

J70%
by J####:

A lot of the map is very outdated, especially with school campuses that have updated their buildings or demolished buildings are still listed.

T70%
by T####:

not getting assaulted by transphobes is great 10/10 would recommend

W70%

Helped me not get killed

Q70%
by Q####:

It seems to run well, but I can't figure out how to edit my own entries, or add info to others. I wanted to update some locations with clearer information. If there were a way to do this, I'd increase the star rating on my review.

Q70%
by Q####:

Useful app. Would be more helpful if there were more locations (but thats in part due to lack of user additions) - The app should automatically include chains with trans-positive/gender neutral options (like starbucks, with unisex single stalls @ every location). Feedback option also doesnt seem to be working, but I've already seen comments on that.

J70%
by J####:

It's nice, but I wish there was a "list" option so you could see a list of what's near you instead of a map, or being able to access different locations if you're traveling and need to know.

E70%
by E####:

The feedback option isn't working. But I do really love it app thank you so much for making this.

L70%
by L####:

I am a cis, hetero mother of 2, but I will add to the app to help the trans community! #ally

Q70%

Helpful and easy to use, this is an app that can truly help a lot of people.

Love this

J70%

There were no safe restrooms listed in my town, so I tried to add some, but I was unable to do so. First, whenever my screen rotated (for ease of typing vs ease of scrolling) or turned off, all of my previously entered text would disappear. I had to retype most of the form 3 different times before finally pressing submit the first time... only to get an error message simply saying that something "went wrong." Unfortunate.

Y70%
by Y####:

The entire map had no restrooms and it defaults to Minneapolis even though I'm in Chicago. I added a bathroom in Chicago, and I don't see it at all.

S70%
by S####:

It's more helpful when I go to downtown, which is a rare occasion, but on my side of town has like no safe restrooms that I know of, I'll keep an eye out.

H70%
by H####:

Currently the mobile web page is better than the app, but they're both a lifesaver. Currently feature-poor and really only useful in university-areas of larger cities because of a lack of data. Could use more users tbh, the more people use it the more bathrooms will be added to the database.

R70%
by R####:

The app has worked wonderfully so far. If I were to suggest one thing, maybe we could get an option to use the longitude and latitude of a location instead of the address when suggesting a location

R70%
by R####:

I just wanna map these for people so they can have a better life

R70%
by R####:

I do like it, it's just there's one and it's too far away

I'm also trans, I go by Jack, and it's super cool to find places that have restrooms safe for other trans people and it's super easy to use. I love the idea.

R70%

New bathrooms don't show up until you close the app and reopen it. No way to comment on, rate, or correct entries.

Good idea in theory, but it won't let me add anywhere. There are at least two that I know of near me and it won't let me lost them, says an error occurred
