About Seesaw: The Learning Journal

Seesaw is a student-driven digital portfolio that empowers students of all ages to independently document and share what they are learning at school.

**Named Best App of 2015 by Graphite Common Sense Media, American Association of School Librarians, and Richard Byrne's Free Tech for Teachers**

FEATURES:
Easily Capture Student Learning in Any Form
∙ Students can use photos, videos, drawings, text notes, links or PDFs to show what they know and store evidence in their digital portfolio. You can also import directly from over 100 other apps.
∙ When students add to Seesaw, content is uploaded, organized by student, and accessible from any device.
∙ Teachers can browse work from the entire class or for a single student. Optionally, use folders to organize work by subject area project, or assessment standard.
∙ Teachers can flag items in the digital portfolio for follow up or to review at parent-teacher conferences.

Sign In Options that Work for All Ages
∙ Younger learners or classrooms with shared devices can sign in with a QR code.
∙ Older students can sign in with their email address or Google account.

Encourage Reflection and Provide an Authentic Audience
∙ Seesaw helps capture the learning process not just the end result. Students can use Seesaw’s built-in audio recording and drawing tools to reflect on what they've learned or explain how they got their answer.
∙ Seesaw gives students an authentic audience of their peers and parents, encouraging better work and real feedback. Teachers can control who can see what, and what feedback options are available, such as likes and comments.

Strengthen Connections Between School and Home
∙ Include families in the learning process by inviting them to view updates to their child’s Seesaw journal. Seesaw’s immediate, visual updates actually get seen by parents, provide encouragement for students, and cross language barriers.
∙ Teachers approve all new additions and comments before anything is shared with parents.

Seesaw Blogs -- the easiest way to create a blog for your class!
- Create a public webpage for your class and give students a global audience for their work.
- Teachers and students can post a selection of Seesaw items to the class blog in just one tap. No other apps, websites or embed codes needed! All posts are teacher-moderated.
- Connect to other class blogs directly within the Seesaw app so students can easily comment and collaborate with students from other classrooms.

Teacher Resource Center
∙ Getting started tips, professional development resources, FAQ.
∙ More than 30 Common Core aligned activity ideas.
∙ Personalized customer support if you need help.

I do really like this app, I find it is awesome for sharing and building a digital portfolio. But it is incredibly frustrating that on Android it is so difficult to access parent messages. I end up opening it up in my browser rather than using the app because of this problem. Please fix it!

N70%
by N####:

Loved it but now I may leave. Can't access parents messages on android. Useless if I can't see my parents messages! Other classroom apps have solved these problems.

H70%
by H####:

This app rocks! So simple to use yet powerful. I taught one student how to share his work on Thursday. By dismissal time on Friday he had taught everyone in the class how to share. I'm getting good feedback from parents too.

K70%
by K####:

Love what the app can do for students to share info. I dislike that as a teacher I cannot see the parent messages on an android. This is frustrating.

O70%
by O####:

I used to love it but probably wouldn't recommend it now that parent messages are so difficult to access. This had been a key as to why it suited the needs of myself and my families, but now it's just easier to use email.

X70%
by X####:

Love this app for teaching kindergarten. It allows me to take photos, videos and write comments to keep in touch with parents throughout the day. I love that I can share with parents pictures throughout the day and explain the learning that is going on in the picture. Parents love it as a tool to start conversations with their children about what they did at school. Parents now have a better understanding of what their children do all day, what their children are learning through meaningful play. They can see pictures of writing samples and crafts and really celebrate with their children the progress they are making. This app helps me as a teacher document each child's work and progress throughout the year which makes parent teacher interviews and report cards so much easier! Love this app!

Fast, easy snapshots for parents that want to see what their child is doing everyday. Great for kids who say they did nothing today!

See saw has been a great way to connect parents to what their child is learning in school. I often get faster responses from parents through seesaw than any other type of communication. And the kids love seeing their parents likes and comments on their work.

I don't like how the updated version of the family app mixes up each of you're child's journals. I like to see their news feeds separate

Students and families love sharing what is going on in the classroom. We start at Open House with family photos! From science to free time, kids do their best because they have an authentic audience. I love that I get to approve what my students and families post.. sometimes that develops into a lesson of "Is this your best work?"
