About Light File Explorer

Light File Explorer (Light FE) is a small file manager app.

Notice! Nougat:
For Nougat, Light FE's functionality is limited:
Not all top level files and folders are shown. And one might not be able to open files from within Light FE in Nougat.

Notice! KitKat and higher:
For KitKat and higher, Light FE currently only have read access to removable sd cards (except for the app's /Android/data folder, which of course is writable).
And USB sticks might not be accessible at all in Light FE in KitKat and higher.

Light FE does NOT have a recycle bin for deleted items.
It does NOT have features for connecting to other devices.
It does NOT provide any web or cloud connections.
It does NOT support compressing/extracting archives with password protection.

Light FE can have multiple browse and search views.
Only one view is visible at a time.

This app's gui is rather rudimentary and very textual. No (space occupying) icons representing files and folders. It has no button toolbars.
All actions are accessed via the app's three menus:
- File/folder context menu, for file operations.
- View button context menu, for view related actions.
- Main menu for various actions.

It has an extensive search function, where one for example can search for objects that have a certain permission or are hidden.

Supported file operations:
open (default, or force as text or image);
copy to;
move to;
rename;
delete;
compress & extract (zip or gzip);
show checksum;
show properties;
attach-to-email;
compare folders;
create new empty file and folder;

Which file/folder attributes to show is configurable. It is possible to, up to a configurable limit, directly in folder listings see the cumulative size, and number of sub items, of folders.

There is a multi select feature, but only for files - not folders.

Modest permission requirements - it only requires access to external storage.
Free and no ads.

Perfect! Does just what need, nothing more, nothing less. File Manager that came embedded with my ASUS tablet couldn't even open files when selected (e.g. had to open Excel first then select the spreadsheet).

C70%
by C####:

Finally, a File Manager that shows up all the information of the files, without cropping anything. It wraps long file names and has lots of options, some aesthetic, like colours, others functional, like recursive file counting and checkboxes for multi-selection (although, currently, it only multi-selects files). It lacks option to move directories (currently, it only copies, and one at a time).

by U####:

Five stars----Everyone needs more than one good File Manager. This one is easy to use, is easily customized, provides necessary details and is not bloated. It's in my top four FM's.

Finally someone who thinks PATH is important to know WHERE IT IS!

T70%
by T####:

Outstanding! Simple and powerful.

D70%
by D####:

Small, simple, functional. Does what it does without a single hiccup. The perfect app.

X70%
by X####:

Although it's way too basic and limited to be used realistically at the moment, its honesty and leanness is great. It's everything the developer described it as being. To understand the gui you need to be familiar with the raw nature of file systems, and there is no cloud access. I hope this is the emergence of a light yet practical app following, or even setting a path that other developers could follow.
