Sonic The Hedgehog

This is a stunning enhanced version of a game released just in time for Sonic's 22nd birthday. Plays fantastic on touch screen controls. With unlockable Tails & Knuckles, optional spin-dash & no speed-cap physics, this is a must buy for those both old and new to 2d Sonic games. Nice work Stealth & Taxman. EDIT 5/4/2016: Taxman has made an update which fixes the sound-test issue, but for some reason Google Play haven't released the update yet (which is already on the Apps store).

I love it the graphics are smoother the game is a lot faster because I live in England where the infamous 50hz version was released the music is remade but sounds exactly like the original but brings more of the instruments out for example like the drums in marble zone you can also play as knuckles and tails after completing it as sonic it also uses a save feature which I personally didnt need but if you are new to the game it comes handy . Taxman and stealth are the most cunning scientific geniuses in the world lol. I have high hopes for sonic mania

I never thought I would say this about a mobile port, but this is HANDS DOWN THE BEST VERSION of this game on ANY platform. Not only can Sonic use the Spindash which was not in the original version, but both Tails AND Knuckles were added with their abilities to fly glide and climb walls in tact making this like a new game entirely. Add in slightly enhanced music and added graphical effects and you have one hell of an experience.

Amazing port, this is probably the best way to play Sonic the hedgehog 1 and please SEGA make Sonic 3! Oh... I just have 1 issue, when I go to sound test and press for example number 1 it goes to 11 and when I press 2 it goes to 12, please fix this little issue because I wanna try out Super Sonic. Nevertheless you made a good job on remastering the game.

Had a nostalgic feeling when installing this and the game itself is as great as its always been. But because it is impossible to change the controls this game is unplayable for me. The 2 joysticks will make your fingers cover sonic 80% of the time while using them, making it difficult to see where you are. The right joystick controlling jump and crouch rarely works as intended, making sonic jump when moving it up or making him crouch when doing the same. 2 sepperate buttons would probably work better for it

Great port of the old Sonic game. And with some improvements (e.g. Sonic can do a spin dash, unlike in the original). Controls are hard to get used to, but really what can you expect when playing a game intended for a controller on a touch screen? Definitely worth downloading.

Sonic was my childhood, and playing this felt so nostalgic and amazing. 3 Characters to play as? Time trial? Both save and no save mode? Pure perfection. Although, I have encountered a bug in level select where I can't activate Debug mode, which might have something to do with another bug where I select something in Sound Test, it switches to a different number. However, this game is just perfect, and I'd recommend this to ANYONE.

Sound test won't work, instead it skips 16 songs. Fix and 5 stars. BUG: when you jump and the water is at a certain height, you just rocket up super fast until you hit the ceiling. Doesn't affect Tails, however. EDIT 15/June/2016: The bug DOES affect Tails, it's just harder to pull off.

This version of Sonic is very good, I have to say. It reminds of when I first started playing retro games. But SEGA, you might want to consider improving the controls. They can be very fidgety sometimes. But overall, good work SEGA!

But does anyone else find the touch screen a bit difficult to navigate with? I miss the controls really. And I probably will end up playing Sonic on my laptop as a result, but I will keep trying on my phone because I love Sonic! :) Miss my mega drive!

First off, I am speechless at the way you were able to create an onscreen D-pad so well. Thank you Christian Whithead! You rock!! The controls are amazing and work very well. I am only in the second stage of the Green Hill zone but, man, you really nailed it. Pretty much spot on recreation and gameplay of one superb classic retro game. Now that you have that amazing touch screen directional pad - please release a port of Streets of Rage!!!! EXCELLENT GAME! Thank you!! LOVE IT!

Just as fun as the original game...and just as clichy. Edge detection is just as poor, soft clipping is still in the game. Swiping up on the direction pad sends you to the pause screen on higher ppi devices. Still worth the purchase

You can have de bug mode here's how you get it. Go in to No save mode then tap the SEGA logo you will here a chime if you got it right. Then hold your fingers on the screen. If you got it right you will go to The Sonic 2 menu.go to sound test and type 4126 I think. you will here a chime if you got de bug mode. And there you go I hope you are happy.

I had sonic when I was a young kid but was never able to beat it... Now with the great mobile port and continue system, I was finally able to beat a childhood game. Looks and runs well. Game did lag from time to time but enjoyed playing this game

Whenever I go to sound test, I hit play and it skips 16 songs ahead. How am I going to get debug mode or super sonic now? Whatever. It's still a fantastic game. I've also been running into a problem with the controls. Now, every now and then, the controls will stick for what feels like 30 seconds. All of a sudden getting a chaos emerald or completing an act is a lot harder and I seem to be the ONLY one running into this problem. (It also occurs in sonic 2) Please fix or help as to how to fix this.

You guys you don't have to whine because of the controls or whatever. It's still a great game even though things could act weird. Just ignore the problems or fix them yourself.

If your reading this review about Sonic 1 For mobile devices IT IS WORTH IT FOR 3 DOLLARS! It has Knuckles, Tails, Sonic+Tails, Spindash (Not in Sega Genesis Version) And much More! Play As Sonic (Tails Or Knuckles or Sonic+Tails) And Run at Super Sonic Speed Collect 6 Chaos Emeralds and 100% the game!

This remaster has proper widescreen and HD resolution which makes the game look fantastic. Very good deal for only $3. Sadly, you have to unlock Tails and Knuckles by beating the game once, but that's a nitpick.

This game does what nintendon't because this game runs nicely at 60fps and I can play it anywhere at anytime. This game makes Mario look lame and that is what people said back in 1991. I still like sonic more than Mario.

This is an amazing port so far, my only complaint at the moment is the lack of sound test, and the way involnerability frames work right now. It seems that they don't activate until you hit the ground, which can lead to losing your rings and emedietly dying to something in the air or something you land on. If involnerability frames were fixed 5 stars for sure.

As a 80's baby i grew up on Sonic and the Sega Genesis. This games great! The controls on the phone are a little wonky but easy to get used to. Love how they added the spin dash to sonic 1

I have gotten sonic 1 and 2... They had the same problems. They both crashed when the Sega logo appears. I have a ''Asus Android Memo Tablet'' And I would like an email sometime telling me when/if , their will be an update to fix this problem. When its fixed, I will gladly rate 5 stars and write a good review. Thanks and fix please

Port to port its 5/5 but I just wish it felt a bit faster love how the glitches are cleared up ive went off sonic 4 (pretty quickly) so this is my alternative still need sonic 3 up in here? What happened to sonic CD? Used to be able to play it on my Sony xperia arc s (really that old) now when I search for it on a more modern faster device it isn't here? Well what can I say missing out both of us u cash me gameplay i have the ps2 version costed a quid sonic gems and the other game each. Be better on mobile

My version is glitched with unlocking Nuckles. I have completed the game with the sonic&tails duo and collected all the gems, but still no Nuckles. Otherwise, excellent game! My brother and I have spent hours trying to beat eachothers time trials ☺

When im playing sonic seems to crouch automatically its too sensitive even when im not crouching and trying to jump over things it crouches and launches forward this needs sorting the touchpad on bottom left would be better as the old megadrive d pad to better the game and the sensitivity

I never experienced the first sonic game but this port is great and get it. I like the addition of playing as tails and knuckles. Let this be your first sonic game. Tip: To unlock knuckles, beat the game with all the chaos emeralds. It has everything, HD graphics, 16:9 image, new characters, and unbelievable performance. Revalutionary !

Decent port, and on offer at 10p cant complain too much. Finding the controls a little bit unresponsive, tried altering the size of them but that made little difference. I like the option to play as Tails or Knuckles. If the controls were better I'd rate this a five, but they're irritating enough to knock it down by two stars for me.

Miles better than the original, because saving is here, and game over doesn't mean start over. If you beat the game you can go back to a stage select and get all the chaos emeralds if you didn't already. The touch controls are nice, but if you don't like it, Bluetooth keyboards and controllers work with this game. The only reason why I don't like this game is because you can't save to sd card. Sega can you please fix this for sonic 1, 2, and cd, because cd takes up 256 Mb sonic 2 takes up 54 Mb, and sonic 1 takes up 40 Mb.

Brilliant game! Just like I remember, still better than the crud they release nowadays. Only problem, runs a bit slow on my Nexus 10... Please have a look. Thanks, and get me Sonic 2 already...

This game is so cool, because you can control Sonic, and it is worth buying. The other people who say that this game is not good, are all scrubs!

When I go to the sound test and hit play, it just changes the song from 00 to 10 and back to 00 but never actually plays a song. I'm using a Galaxy Note Pro tablet and a Galaxy S4. Please fix this and I'll do 5 stars

Just a shame you can't save to sd card would have given 5* if I could of.

Not bad for putting a classic on Android phones nowadays, controlling a bit difficult but it's a good game though.

This game works well and runs great. The game itself is just like the original. The controls are hard to get used to but they are not impossible to use. The creators added a few things to change this game. For example, you can unlock tails and knuckles. Overall, this game is amazing and is well worth 3$ Found a secret. Start a no save game and pick a random character. As soon as you hear the words Sega hit the buttons S, then E then G than A in that order one at a time. Then hold S and A to get the secret.

It's well ported even if the touch controls are a little bit hard to grasp. However, I always thought Sonic one was a bit inferior to its sequel. The platforming is annoyingly fiddly and difficult at times and it's visually a bit boring in comparison. It's still good fun, but go for that Sonic 2 or Sonic CD if you only have to play one.

I absolutely love this game. There is just one problem... the swim function doesn't work when playing as sonic and tails together. That means that Tails cannot swim Sonic upward (similar to co-op flying) like he could on the Genesis. Please fix that.

4 stars for an classic game well brought. The reason I got take a star off: why can't I enter my cheat codes for, Sega? Shame on you with this new update.

Absolutely outstanding and well worth the money. I loved Sonic the Hedgehog back in 1991 and this game is a vastly improved version that irons out the bugs and makes it suitable for the modern age. It's exactly like the old game, but with HD, widescreen and it's touch friendly. It has so many more features and new challenges. I only wish that Sega would release Sonic 3 and Knuckles, to complete the collection.

Great game, takes me back! How do you unlock knuckles though, I unlocked sonic + tails after beating the game with sonic, but after completing with tails and sonic+tails still haven't unlocked knuckles!

I think this was done well and it's cool you can play as Tails and Knuckles if you want to. Be aware that the spin charge toggle is in the options menu if you want to play it like it is in the original. Thanks!!
