En el truco se reparten tres cartas a cada jugador.
El juego consiste en ganar los lances para conseguir puntos, el primer jugador que consiga los puntos acordados será el ganador.
Existen dos lances en el truco: el truco y el envido, sobre los que pueden realizarse apuestas en cada mano.
Truco
Consiste en disputar bazas, cada jugador lanzará en su turno una carta al tapete, y la carta de mayor valor será la que venza cada baza, según este orden de mayor a menor:
★ As de Espadas
★ As de Bastos
★ Siete de Espadas
★ Siete de Oros
★ Treses
★ Doses
★ Ases Falsos (As de Copas y As de Oros)
★ Reyes
★ Caballos
★ Sotas
★ Sietes Falsos (Siete de Copas y Siete de Bastos)
★ Seises
★ Cincos
★ Cuatros
Para ganar el truco hay que llevarse dos de esas tres bazas. Si los dos adversarios tienen carta de igual valor para ganar la baza, la misma se empata: baza parda.
Si el jugador a quien corresponde jugar una carta es consciente de que no tiene posibilidades de ganar el truco, tiene la opción de irse al mazo.
Gana el jugador que consiga antes los 15 o 30 puntos, según la modalidad de juego.
