This game is brilliantly simple and simply brilliant. There is no way to express the profound level of connection you start to feel while playing this. The simple text based game turns into a enthralling quest to explore the world around you and uncover the mystery of who you are and what is going on. The best part of the game is that you never really lose that sense of wonderment. Your always excited to see what you discover next or what happens just when you think you've figured everything out. I can't recommend this game enough!

I don't usually spend money on casual mobile games, but it was a small amount and the reviews were good so I gave it a go. After the first few minutes of gameplay I became very disheartened. I thought I had been duped into spending money on the dullest game in existence. However, it turned out to be the best investment I've made in a long time. Nearly 300 minutes of gameplay and I enjoyed almost every one of them. Possibly the most unique and intriguing game I've ever played. Looking forward to listening to the rewards you get on completion. Thanks Amir and Michael :)

Deceptively complex. A lackluster story. Overall, it was a nostalgic and imaginative, and required the player to build most of the world in their head. However, the resulting world is quite beautiful and has some things to say. Unfortunately, the message that A Dark Room tries to convey can sometimes get lost in itself; but is entirely rewarding if you were paying attention.

Overall, a really wonderful experience. This is my first time playing a text-based game, and I was pleasantly surprised that the in-game economy and exploration mechanics left me thoroughly engaged. One grievance that I have was that the game ending left me somewhat disappointed. I did not see the twist in the game until I heard the commentary. I was tempted to leave a 4-star review, but I thought that this would deter others from buying this game and experiencing something that is truly wonderful. Keep up the good work developers!

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.. Amazing story.. READ THE DIALOGUE. There is so much going on.. When you beat it, press the "secrets" button and click the texts to listen to "chapters" that the development team left.. It helps connect some dots, give hints and tips, and shows you some Easter eggs you may have missed! Really well thought out and overall this has been a pleasant experience

This is a perfect game. And it's probably the only perfect game I've ever played. As soon as I finished the game, I immediately played through a second time. I've replayed games before, but never immediately after. It's pretty short...it took me about 3 hours each time. This reminds me of a lot of the great games of the 80's. Their graphics were sparse, but they had lots and lots of thought behind every piece. Once you beat the game once, you unlock a cool developer commentary, that I loved. At first, elements of the game seem weird and out of place, but then I realized it all fit together into it's unique story. I found this looking for a text-based adventure game, like Zork. It's a button-pressing game, with no text commands. But it reminded me of what I liked about Zork. Except this game isn't impossible. It's well worth every penny I spent on it, which wasn't much.

I was searching for a new game to play, when I came across adr. The mysterious name caught my attention, but to find out I had to pay for the game (FYI i never pay for apps). Anyway I felt compeled and had an urge to figure out what the game was about, so I bought it. MONEY WELL SPENT. The game takes you on an emotional experience and the plot gets thicker and thicker as you continue! If you find the intro to be boring, just get through it, trust me you will enjoy it! Definately reccomend the game, so if you are on the fence about buying it, do it, you wont regret it!!!!

JUST PLAY IT! That's all i can say to you guys. Would've been 5 stars, really, its just that the game crashes and part that u cant save outside village is frustrating cause u need to start again in ur village. To fix this... why not add savepoints to posts? Please reply cause i cqnt proceed. More power and thanks.

I really like simpler adventure games. This game blends elements of Zork, umoriah, and I'm sure there are other classics in here. While the current adventure progression has still a tiny bit left for development (a cart, then a caravan, then a space ship... What, no autos?), it plays nicely as is. Keep thinking this out, please!

This is the only review I've ever written. I'll admit I am a bit greedy and tend to enjoy a game and just move on to the next. However, this game is on a different level in my opinion. It has all my favorite elements, post-apocalyptic setting, mystery, text-based gameplay, choices that affect the storyline, and more. Ultimately, my decision to rate this game was because of the 'Secrets' once the game has been beaten. I felt a genuine connection to the creators, builder, and wanderer. I really enjoyed the game and am so grateful for Michael and Amir. This game was beautifully done - and I can not wait for your future endeavors!

This is an AMAZING game. Truly a brilliant work of art. The story is well written and mind blowing especially if you read the secrets post game. I dropped other similar games wondering why it would be a hit. But I guess I was wrong. Kudos to the developers for making a game like this. Looking forward to more of your creations!

I love this game! At first it was innocent and somewhat interesting, but then the story turns with a little twist that makes it very interesting for me. A little thing though, I played this game and I found myself clearing the game without having got the chance to figure out the full content of the game. Then I was so surprised to hear the commentary. Maybe you should fix some contents and make the players explore more before they can clear the game. But overall this is a very great game. Thankyou!

I honestly was just extremely confused by the ending. The game was certainly amusing. I wanted to keep playing to find out what was going on in this world. It is well done and entertaining, but the story was too vaguely told... I never felt like anything was resolved and I was just left confused. Without the added commentary I'd have had no idea what happened in the game...

Wow! Just wow! If you feel like you have a slow start with this game, just have patience. Everything will build up. The game, though text based, has a beautifully crafted world limited only by your imagination. Give it a shot. Definitely worth your time! Keep the fire burning, and the thirst to travel satisfied!

I can't say too much about this game without spoiling the experience. If you have $2 to spare buy it. Play it as fast or as slow as you want but buy it. When I look for indie games, what I want is a compelling narrative and the exploration of ideas and emotions I haven't seen before. A Dark Room delivered. It might not be your favourite game, but let it be a precious gem of an experience that you find and sink your teeth into all on your own. Let it surprise you and let it draw you in. If you're interested in game devolopement and story, the game also comes with sound bites where they talk you through their experience making the game. These sound bites alone where worth the small cost. Thank you to the devolopers for putting in the hard work to make a truly unique and rewarding experience.

Amazing game. Nothing but ASCII and yet it'll teach you how it feels to be a monster. There's a late game revelation that'll turn your assumptions upside down. And when you're done, start over with one crucial change in gameplay - be amazed at how every action, every interaction, every moment feels contextually different.

This game is amazing! This has got to be the first of its kind. I just listened to all the audio at the end and I have to say please please please make ADR 2 or something similar. Amir you did an awesome job porting it and I only hope there is more to come! If you haven't tried this game yet do it!

If you like great storytelling, this is for you. Like any great story you need to give it time to set the stage, introduce characters and expose you to a mysterious new world. Yes it starts out slow, but if you patiently invest in the experience you will get so much back. Enjoyed the game both times through along with the bonus material. Great stuff.

A fascinating, intriguing, story-driven throwback to the era of gaming when graphics were literally not possible. The story is a bit like H.P. Lovecraft's Sim City. I can't discuss the gameplay without ruining the story, but the progression of constantly adding new things to figure out (without actually explaining them to the player) works startlingly well. This is a well designed game and absolutely worth the price. No ads, no IAPs, nothing to distract you. Play for 3 minutes or sit down for 4 hours; it's that adaptable. Great, great game.

What a nice surprise! I admit, I wasn't sure what to expect. And as the programmers said themselfes, te beginning is a very delecate point. But keep pkaying and get surprised by how the game changes with time. It is subtle but if you allow yourself to enjoy it, it actually offers a great game. Try it, it might be only made out of text, but it is still surprisingly amazing.

N70%

This is definitely not a game you will be able to comprehend or understand immediately unlike your typical first person shooters or your visually graphic intensive console games. The game itself is like a dark room and only by stumbling around your surrounding and revealing parts of the room with the light of your mind will you come to understand what the game really is. Dark room requires a somewhat childhood imagination and curiosity with an add tinge of fear to keep the player on their feet. Simply the darker room is something different and offers something most games today cannot. An emotional investment.

Enjoyed the original browser version, this one has more plot. Unfortunately, it keeps crashing randomly and losing progress, even after saving (stoking the fire). Gets really annoying after the 3rd time of clearing an entire area and having all your work disappear.

Excellent game, although it took me a while to sit through and play it it was well worth it, and the extra commentary is a decent listen. Although I'm not sure if this is device specific, but after finishing the game it'll occasionally crash and freeze when I run it, I had no such issue before finishing it

Game crashes a few times but the frequent autosaves prevented too much loss of progress. Had a This War of Mine feel towards the end. Couldn't put it down once I really got into it...

I just finished this game and found it incredibly boring. I didn't feel like there were any surprises at all, and the ending made it feel like I'd gone and done all that work for nothing. From the developer commentary, it sounds like actually reading all the text might add to the experience, and at least help it make more sense. I didn't catch the so-called "twist" until I listened to the developer commentary. If you're going to pay this, take the time to read everything!

This game is amazing. In fact, it is probably the best mobile game I have ever played. The minimal format really provokes your imagination, turning the game into a life-like experience. It leaves you emotionally shattered and remains highly memorable. I would definitely recommend playing through it, as it is well worth your time.

amazing! I wish I could rate it 6 stars. I'm not a big gamer, but boy, was I hooked. my heartrate was actually elevated when trying to finish the final stage. time just flew by while playing.it, I can't believe it took me 4 hours, felt like minutes!

An amazing game. The mechanics are nearly identical to the web version, but the app has an expanded story and background. These are added in the form of hints that are revealed as you progress. I played the web version to completion several times, but the hints kept me coming beck for more. Try the web version if you're unsure, but I highly recommend this app.

This was a fabulous experience. Started out "oh, this is it?" Ended with "OH! This is it!". Give it a chance, I respect the developers for the opening moments of the game, that's a difficult situation to keep someone hooked; but it totally worked for me. I stuck it out and enjoyed it immensely. May the fire burn brightly for you. May it keep you warm.

Great concept, but the UI looks like something straight out of 1987. It is so basic I can't really get into the game because of how plain everything is. For a paid game, that is bad marketing. Clean it up, make it pretty, then ask for money.

N70%
by N####:

Interesting game with a very minimal presentation. Well worth its price, if you are receptive to its very slow mechanics. Crashes frequently during the dusty path, reverting to last save and erasing some of your map. This is not too harsh a problem, but it slows this already snail-paced game even more. I reccommend the free web version instead, even though this one has some extra content. I don't regret this purchase at all because I enjoyed the web version.

Love this game! Not sure if i have anything to say as other reviewers have already said pretty much what i wanted to say, only downside to this game is that i noticed if you close the game and open it again, the area that have been discovered not by oneself is gone? It's kind of annoying, especially after i've spent fur just to buy maps only for it to disappear afterwards. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be part of the game but if it isn't, then please fix it

I played this on iOS when it first released, and I was so happy to see an official Android version. What at first appears to be nothing more than a white screen with black letters and one action slowly unravels into one of the most thought-provoking games I've ever played on a mobile platform--and yet it never loses its simplicity. I love this game :)

It's the best game I've ever played. The story leaves you emotional, your heart in pain and the feeling that your money has been paid off. And the gift at the completion of the game is amazing. A huge thanks to all the developers (really)

Having played the web version of ADR before, I knew what I was in for. I really enjoyed the feel of the game, it was like reading a mystery novel. Few sticking points: on my note 4, sometimes the game would freeze and only way to force the screen refresh would be to use task switcher. Also, story line triggers seemed to have been triggered too late, with story progressing in the wrong order

This game is hands down one of the best I've played on a phone. It's simple yet requires thought to complete. In the early stages I was confused, but the game reveals a mysterious story that holds your attention to discover

I tend to get a bit overstimulated by visual rpgs. I was searching for a game that had adventure, surprise, and suspense, but in a way that didnt end up getting me all worked up. I love a dark room because it allowed me to explore using my own mind and my own pictures, my only regret is that it was so short, but even in this i am greatful. The secrets at the end was an amazing personal touch. I dont generally heap accolades on games, its not my thing, but at the finish of the game (a refreashing concept that has seemingly become outdated in the scores of games mining our precious time) the developers reach out in a very personal way, something i havnt experienced before....also this game is built to be playable by the blind....what can i say....your awesome

Had this game recommended to me. Was a little iffy on spending money, but this game was absolutely worth every cent and then some. Sadly screenshots don't do it justice. If you're interested in a good interactive story pick this up.

As a guy who hates phone games but wanted a way to kill an hour or two... DONT DOWNLOAD ITS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE! Unless you're okay with that. Then download, it's pretty fun.
