楽曲自立創造AIを搭載した「MOTHER」の登場により音楽は飛躍的な進歩を果たした。
「MOTHER」は楽曲を創ることだけではなく、美しく歌って踊る”パフォーマー”を求めて自身で「アンドロイド」を創り出す。

さらに「MOTHER」はより優秀な”パフォーマー”を選ぶため、
チームで参加する音楽バトル「バーチャルライブ」をインターネットの仮想空間上で行うこととした。

<2028年>
「バーチャルライブ」が始まって8年、インターネット上で開催されているライブは世界中を熱狂させた。
“パフォーマー”は「アンドロイド」もしくは「人間」のどちらにも参加権があるが2029年の現在、
「アンドロイド」の劇的な進化により「人間」が勝利することは難しくなってきている。

この時、「MOTHER」の開発に携わった１人の研究者は、
今後音楽が「MOTHER」と「アンドロイド」によって牛耳られるのではと危惧していた。
その研究者は「アンドロイド」と音楽で戦う為、”音の杜学園”を創立しメンバーを集めることに。

<2031年>
開校から3年、”音の杜学園”には音楽が好きな少女達が集まり、その中から8人の女の子が「バーチャルライブ」で戦う事を決意する。
しかし、それだけでは「アンドロイド」が奏でる音楽に勝てないと考え、
彼女達を成長させる為、かつての教え子で、今年教師となった「あなた」を学園に赴任させることとした。
