Jacques Jean Louis Segond, born in Switzerland, was a pastor, writer and Protestant theologian who translated the Bible into French from the original texts in Hebrew and Greek. The full version of the Old Testament was published in 1874 and the New Testament in 1880.

After the death of James Version in 1885, the Bible was revised and published in 1910. It became the standard Bible in French and the French equivalent of the English King James Version.
