About Physics Toolbox Sensor Suite

Useful for STEM education, academia, and industry, this app uses device sensor inputs to collect, record, and export data in comma separated value (csv) format through a shareable .csv file. Data can be plotted against elapsed time on a graph or displayed digitally. Users can export the data for further analysis in a spreadsheet or plotting tool. This app also generates tones, colors, and a stroboscope. See www.vieyrasoftware.net for a variety of usage ideas for STEM education.

A menu allows the user to sense or generate the following (dependent upon the user’s mobile device capabilities):

SENSORS
(1) G-Force Meter - ratio of Fn/Fg (x, y, z and/or total)
(2) Linear Accelerometer – acceleration (x, y, and/or z)
(3) Gyroscope - radial velocity (x, y, and/or z)
(4) Barometer - atmospheric pressure
(5) Roller Coaster - G-Force Meter, Linear Accelerometer, Gyroscope, and Barometer
(6) Hygrometer - relative humidity
(7) Thermometer - temperature
(8) Proximeter - periodic motion and timer (timer and pendulum modes)
(9) Ruler - distance between two points
(10) Magnetometer - magnetic field intensity (x, y, z and/or total)
(11) Compass - magnetic field direction and bubble level
(12) GPS - latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, direction, number of satellites
(13) Inclinometer - azimuth, roll, pitch
(14) Light Meter - light intensity
(15) Sound Meter - sound intensity
(16) Tone Detector - frequency and musical tone
(17) Oscilloscope - wave shape and relative amplitude

MULTI RECORD
(18) Multi Record

GENERATORS
(19) Tone Generator – sound frequency producer
(20) Color Generator – R/G/B/Y/C/M, white, and custom color screen
(21) Stroboscope (beta) - camera flash

In multi record, users choose one or more of the above sensors to collect data at the same time. Files can be easily named before export, or saved to the device's internal for easy organization and retrieval later on.

Additional features include the ability to record data with clock time or elapsed time, select either the comma or semicolon as the csv delimiter, change line width on graphs, modify the relative sensor collection rate, and maintain the screen on at all times.

Permissions Explained:

Location

Used to calculate the azimuth.

Photos/Media/Files

A csv file is created and modified on the phone's internal memory.

Microphone

The app has a sound meter mode that analyzes sound using the microphone.

Incredibly good. Never saw a tool which is both so useful and educational. Moreover, it is reasonably lightweight on resources. This is a vindication of the potential of smart devices for a truly useful purposes. Thanks to Vieyra Software for offering such a great app!

X70%
by X####:

Love everything except that when exporting with "clock time," it only saves time with 0.1 sec precision (not enough). It also saves in the format HH:MM:SS:S, when what is actually represented in the data is HH:MM:SS.S.

P70%
by P####:

Very good tool for viewing and graphing sensor data, and compared to the quality we usually see dumped onto mobile app stores, this is a very well-rounded app and a gem in comparison to those other apps.

Fun! I especially enjoy the magnetometer. Next month I'll take it to Yellowstone to warn me of any impending supervolcanic doom.

Hey, it Works! And I'm Not drowning in ads. Thank you for a cool app

Wonderful tools

Z70%
by Z####:

It looks great right from the start, instantly addictive will help around the world to get scientists and engineers to capture data quicker and portable, great colour scheme and appearance, I want to use it for general sensor probe capture with date stamp, and particularly a photon belt energy level detector to help scientists track photon belt changes. Keep up the good work!

Crashed a lot Edit: Thanks for the reply, I reinstalled your app today and it works perfectly. Yesterday I might have had an app called Dvasive turned on, it would cause issues with this.

The best. 2 years later: Still the best and I recommend buying the paid version to encourage and thank the developer

This is actually a really great app. Nice and simple yet plenty of features. It is also pretty customizable as well.

This is a great app but with regards to accelerometer , it captures linear acceleration values, because of which a lot of old phones cannot record the data

Q70%
by Q####:

Great app but the red button with the white plus sign should be changed to a white circle so more people would know it means recording.

R70%
by R####:

Very useful. Replaced 3 other apps I used from time to time. Highly recommended for all intelligent people

Don't be scared by the program name, this thing uses everything your phone has, making it into a true tricorder from Star Trek. No need for multiple little greedy apps that bombard you with ads or have shady permission needs.

This app proves the earth is not a globe. Calibrate it in a level table and then walk drive or fly over a distance and then check it on a level table. See if the curvature of the earth has been measured..... Answer is NOPE. IT'S FLAT. Wake up.

Very interesting, and fun. It would be nice to have reference values for the different measurements and interpretation, for instance, magnetic fields or noise levels. Some information about measurement error would be nice too.
