About Debian noroot

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is not supported!

This app is not updated anymore, at least not until I will get a new phone.

This app will install Debian Jessie.
You do not need to root your device, it will work fine with any stock ROM.
You will need 900 Mb free on internal storage. This app cannot be installed to SD card.
A mouse or stylus is highly recommended.
If you are using Android 6.0 or newer, check out our sister app - GNURoot Debian. You can pair it with XSDL app to run graphical Debian applications.

This app is NOT full Debian OS - it is a compatibility layer, which allows you to run Debian applications.
Your phone is NOT rooted during installation.
This is NOT official Debian.org release.

If you have Error -24 when installing this app - install this version (it's the same app with different name):
http://sourceforge.net/projects/libsdl-android/files/ubuntu/Debian-15.08.28-xx.apk
Do not uninstall this app if you have Android 4.4 or older - you will not be able to install it again, because of a bug in Android, which was fixed in Android 5.0.
Clear app data instead to save space - long-press app icon in drawer, drag it to App Info icon, and select Clear data.

If you want to use web browser, open Terminal and run command sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get install iceweasel

If you want to use Eclipse or other Java applications, install package openjdk-7-jdk and restart Debian app, because default JDK does not work on Samsung devices.

To disable gyroscope, tap Change device config during app start, select Mouse emulationAdvancedGyroscope.

To set 24bpp color depth or portrait screen orientation, go to Change device configVideo.

If your favorite music player does not work - install package gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio.

This app uses PRoot. All hail PRoot and it's most gracious developer, Cédric VINCENT!

Finally i've found the best linux distro environment on my Asus T001. The best thing i got here is i can change the look of interface by using other xfce themes and ubuntu mate themes. The application also running without problems on PROOT. Hopefully pleya willing to update this soon. There is a problem when using iceweasel, the page won't load and show the content. But i still keeping give a five star for this amazing works!

Fantastic way for run Desktop apps on Android Tablets or Phones. If your mobile is old, please, take some patience because it is slow for run some applications (Ex: Eclipse take a minute or more for open after you click in your icon). But the experience is fantastic for a mobile. This app possibility you make a Developer Environment in your mobile, configure remote access with SSH protocol (and your benefits as port forward, sftp, and others), and a lot of other things that you want run!

Issues noted... It has fakeroot not real root. If you SU it asks for a password (none mentioned by the developer). Also its slow but I think thats just the chroot, alot of work still needed but definitely a much needed alternative to linux deploy and the like. Maybe something the developer should leave open source so more heads can make this thing a monster. 4 stars for being awesome, -1 for locking me out :D

Delusional. Freed up over 900Mo of RAM and it still wants more? Do the maths because I did precisely that. Sod off and die!

Works perfectly on my tab. Can't able to use Internet Browser, it gives input/output error. Also if you want to install more function to it, your will require additional internal storage.

...internet browsers I bit screwed up. The basic onboard browser doesn't boot and the Firefox iceweasel browser can't boot because it can't find profiles. Everything else seems to work well though.

No lag, hickups, or any other problems when running on my galaxy note 2. For those of you who are trying to use this without an external monitor. Dont bother installing. You will need a magnifying glass just to read it.

Wasnt able to get it working on my LG 6. It first seemed to freeze at 93% when installing. After I clicked the app it crashed. When I reopened it it showed me the instructions for only 3-4 seconds before automatically starting Linux. Unfortunately, Linux wasnt usable. There was a bar of static-looking texture that appeared when I tried to type. Am going to see about using the "sister app" as mentioned in the app description

To the developer: 5star app. Great job. Awesome possibilities. Only one problem for me: as soon as I open built in keyboard it crashes on my ZTE BLADE S6 . please fix. I have to use external keyboard. Other than that FLAWLESS!!!

Question: Is there any way I can get wine to work? I think it is a problem with the phonw architecture but I am not sure. Same thibg with opengl 3.0. If you know a solution that would be great :)

A bit dated, but fully functional. Unfortunately the built-in web browser wasn't working and the Jessie Firefox port is no longer maintained. (getting "missing file" errors with apt-get)

Useful app, especially after installing GIMP and LibreOffice on it. The app is unfortunately somewhat novelty, however, and if I could've installed GIMP on my device directly I would've. The app also has some problems with virtual keyboard input, whenever you press the back button to open the keyboard most of the keys won't do anything and the screen becomes a jumbled mess, and LMMS using pulseaudio has lots of stuttering, and is almost completely unusable except for rendering songs.

This, along with X2Go, has been my go-to app for accessing my remote Linux developer desktop. Unfortunately, it stopped working today. I reinstalled. Now the X server won't start. Giving 5 stars anyway because I'm sure my tablet became corrupt somehow and because this has been such an amazing app. I hope the developer can help so I can use this again.

This works amazing on my tablet but I'm trying to install numix via git clone. I tried copying icons into the .icon folder I created but I get a write error every time I try. Says it is write only, no matter where I place the folder and I've always checked permissions, everything is read and write. What should I do to fix the error? Already tried ntfs-config

For those who can't or are afraid to root their device, but still want a full desktop, this is the best solution I've found. Starts by downloading and installing a base Xfce4 desktop, which can easily be customized through standard Linux terminal commands. I use Hacker's Keyboard, so I found the startup config useful to remove the on-screen CTRL/ALT/SHIFT keys, as well. P.S. A workaround for the uninstall issue on pre-5.x devices: In a file manager, go to "/sdcard/Android/obb" and delete the "com.cuntubuntu" folder inside. Then you'll be able to reinstall this app.

I tried many apps for Linux installation in my android tablet but all of them made my tablet to keep hanging but this one is well designed and comes with lite Debian version. The version is quite old. I think there have an option to get newer version! Well, I'm pretty impressed. Must have apps for Linux lovers !!

This app is amazing. It makes a smartphone or tablet into a fully usable linux interface, capable of running almost any program. The only thing holding back the app is the users screen size, often not big enough to get the most use out of it.

I invested in a Bluetooth mouse, and spent a bit of time configuring the settings (and killing some interfering services). It finished up pretty serviceable. I'm not sure if I will have a long term use for it but great fun if it is your bag.

It's amazing. Everything worked in a Samsung Galaxy S4 (Iceweasel, etc. once installed using apt-get). I used a GTD cable to connect a PC keyboard and mouse and my TV to watch the screen via mirroring (I don't think the system is usable in any practical way on a mobile without stylus and bluetooth keyboard but that's not the point). Thanks for the hard work.

This is as close as I believe we can get to a linux desktop. This is a great app, with a few bugs. The space right above the window is a bit squashed. I really could use a setting to disable the gyroscope mouse. It click is a bit laggy, but that does not matter too much too me. I would like little buttons on the bottom to send clicks, and use the touch screen as just a trackpad. In genaral, this is a great app.

Awesome, installed right away. Firstly, the Debian installed is very old and outdated. Secondly, I'm on note 3 and it's not letting me use keyboard. It gets glitchy when I press the back key.

OMGWTF! Yussss! I'm on marshmallow, and a lg g stylo that makes 6.0 even more trash... but it looked so good I HAD to try this anyway... and it's THE linux emu I always wanted in my pocket 8D if you're not on 6.0 or cursed with garbage tech- like me- and you want a pretty gui (xfce4) and raw power at your command... GET THIS! @pelya: another dev found workarounds for all your 6.0 glitches wth adopted sd's, internet and package handling (but the kernal, install, and gui is doodoo!)... please collab and make my phone beast :3

This is a really unique application, I have not found any others that allow for the installation of Debian on Android, but there is a problem with installing python and anything that depends on it (on a Galaxy Tab A 6, SM-T280), this is the error message it gives: "rm: cannot remove '/usr/share/doc/python/html': Function not implemented".
