Why stare at the Sun? Solar Max displays near realtime image data from the NASA/ESA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), and Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory (STEREO) spacecrafts downloaded directly to your Android device.
Solar Max feature high resolution images from six from the SOHO satellite's sensors, eleven from SDO, and 2 from STEREO that observe the sun around the clock in various wavelengths. Additionally you can download image data from the past several days to make an animated movie of the sun's rotaion and atomsphere.

While it's ok, it's not great, it lacks the functionality & wavelength selection of other solar apps, the images are not as great a resolution as others. When I paid for mine, they hot me with an additional 2 1/2 times in hidden charges from what they listed, which was cheap thievery on their part.

By far, this is my favorite App. on my (Droid Razor M). The few small typos within the brief texts notwithstanding - this App. is superb! Beautifully & intelligently conceived, brilliantly executed. Fantastic interface, gorgeous graphics & informative minimalistic (explanatory) texts for each instrument & corresponding image. I've no idea how this doesn't have a 5 star rating here. Above all the priceless, near real-time views & info provided in such manner make this App. something truly special!

Very useful...would love magnetic line image too. Also an overlay with sunspot numbers would clinch it as best of apps.

Hey the photos are not animating after they download if you want people to spend money on this you might want to fix the problem.

Settings now allow 1 frame for just the latest image, or up to 50 frames for great time lapse animation. Great update for a great app!

Loved it on my mytouch, gorgeous on the nexus one /25 frames. Would love some form of caching for fast switching, though.
