I've been making a concerted effort to use this. I don't mind unlocking my phone. In fact, I'm pleased to see the requirement. I have a fingerprint unlock that makes it easier too. The only hurdle I've come across is availability of devices that can use it. I have noticed, like some other reviewers mentioned, that the payee isn't always correct. It is usually listed as something else like the business next door, with the correct price of purchase though. Edit- March 8 A friend of mine suggested that the app uses GPS to decide who the payee is. In light of that, I'd recommend, at least, the ability to edit the payee name.

Works fine in the UK, most suppliers seem to accept the payment method. Two areas i would like to see improvements. 1. How do i add a gratuity to a restaurant bill? It was explained by waiter that he expected to see a loss of tips. The POS machine is not geared up to tips when paying by this mechanism. Still have to carry cash for the tips. 2. How do we process loyalty cards. Reticent to use this payment method in Tesco when i have to use my Tesco credit card to get my loyalty points, then use Android payment to pay the bill.

Inconsistent and flakey. I've been embarrassed trying to use Android Pay on TFL services too many times. Other retailers were fine for a while, but every payment point is so unreliable now, I've become afraid for what that might indicate about security. It also frequently reports payment locations that are simply not true. I'll be leaving it on my phone because it now has a history, but as much as I want to use it, I don't trust it.

Good app could be better. When we're able to add all types of gift cards especially Visa & MC and the ability to add a few ID cards then this will truly be a digital wallet. Until then I can not recommend this as a digital replacement for your wallet. I just feel from using both Google Wallet and Android Pay that Google Wallet was extremely the better version! You could add any credit card and you could send money. As always the big G screws up their apps by splitting them apart without taking into count the end user... Booooo !

When, oh when, will this app be properly secured? Years ago, its predecessor was secured by an app password, but ever since it became android pay, it uses the lock screen as "security." Totally inappropriate and insecure! Let someone borrow your phone, they have access to your cards because this app isn't secured separately!! Bring back the app lock instead of the lock screen to secure the app.

First I will say that I hate the forced nougat update. Anyway, the emailed "fix" didn't fix a thing. The credit card I use to go grocery shopping is on the app (the physical is roughly a hundred miles away right now) and now that's failed with no warning (stupid update!) I can't get groceries. Or much else. Thanks Google.

Generally great. A few weird bugs. Like a refund doesn't seem to show up as such: a refund to my card of €9.99 just showed up as an ordinary transaction, looking like I was debited that amount. Had to wait for the account to appear on my statement to be sure what actually happened.

by T####:

Generally works okay, but slow to be recognised by payment terminals (OnePlus 3). I had multiple failures on The London Underground and sometimes get prompted to use my bank card at other places, so I always have to have that on me "just in case". My debit card is a lot faster to be recognised even after the phone is unlocked and screen on. Room for improvement.

Used to work with a rooted phone but without warning, it no longer works. I prefer blocking nefarious ads than having a secondary(or tertiary) option for paying for stuff. Would have been nicer if they would have left Google wallet how it was, and let people without rooted phones use the Android pay system. Participating banks should fix their infrastructure before whining about others. No word yet on how they are "working on it" to get it to actually work on rooted phones.

Junk. I just tried to get a Lyft and needed to update/add a credit card. It tells me that it cannot add because I use a custom ROM/unauthorized build or root. Highly amusing, because I use a Google Nexus 6 with the latest standard build and the latest patch installed. If Android Pay doesn't work on a Google phone, I have to ask what is wrong with Google or more specifically the app?

Not working in a fully locked ONE+3 7.0 nougat.I tried several times to make it work. I also try and put my stock rom, with lock bootloader and no root. Nothing. Very bad app for One+ users. I feel very bad that i had to strart set up my phone from the start and the app still says that i am root. At this momment i have already install my bank of scotland app which had problem when i was rooted. The problem is from this bad written app. Edit:thanks for your quick response. My problem occur not in transaction. I will wait for a fix to rerate the app

I've had some bad experiences with this app using it on my last Android device (Nexus 4). With my new device & new Android version, things have gotten better. Had a payments at Meijer which was a faster experience compared to the confusion caused with my last device. Think I would give it a try at other shops for similar better experience. If found good, I prefer Android payment to traditional card payment

Tap to pay is constantly broken on Google's own Nexus 6. Worthless app. As soon as I get one issue fixed another pops up. I have about a 25% success rate using this at the limited number of stores that accept it. What is the point?

It's good but after about four weeks the app suddenly stops working and I need to register my card again! This is very annoying when you are trying to pay for something and thus can't rely on app. After one week since last updating my card details it failed again today asking me to update my cvv code again. This app is supposed to make your life easier.

But could do with a maximum daily limit as an optional feature for security. I had an issue when adding a card in. Google support tried but could not help. Neither could the bank.i finally realised that the telephone number was all zeros and after changing that it started working.

Used to work fine till my phone updated to Android 7 now the app is useless. I'm stuck with it asking me to unlock my phone over and over again. Until recently I used this to pay everywhere I could cause I hate carrying my card. Now I'm stuck fumbling around looking for my card every time I checkout. One star for now untill Google can figure out what they screwed up otherwise it was a five star app.

Totally awesome service, no worries now if you go out and leave your card at home. I read that others has some issues with using it on TFL service, that's not the case for me it's worked every time. If it had 10 stars I would of rated it that. AWESOME

W70%
by W####:

Sorry but requiring a password on my smartwatch to use any feature or app makes the watch useless. I'm not entering a password every time I want to check my steps or something simple like that. The password should only be required for using Android pay. I will not use Android pay because of this. It defeats the purpose of having the app on the watch. Once again Google has smart people working for them but they lack common sense sometimes. Not to mention all the obviously fake ratings without reviews here.

I love the ease of using the app. I just wish more credit cards get on board atm only my bank credit works the main credit card I use doesn't support this service. When you're running low on cash and you're wallet isn't close by, this app saves the day

L70%

Three things are needed:. A coherent walk-through for the user unfamiliar with NFC to do the first setup. A means to tell when you are close enough to the POS - sound / vibration. A way to turn NFC off in-app with a state indicator. My security concious control freak side isn't quite comfortable with this App yet.

by T####:

It makes me uneasy that your phone only has to be unlocked to use at the till. You don't have to have the app open. Even so. It makes it Quick and easy to use. Handy, when I've my bank card at home and I've needed to pay for something fast.

Not ready for prime time. Ive tried to use it at Meijer, a Michigan-based grocery store three times. No one in store customer service could help when I couldn't get the system to work. I re-read the on line instructions and tried to pay for my purchase again. The phone vibrated, but repeatedly asked for my phone password. I entered the password numerous times, but never got my password accepted by the check out terminal. Android Pay looks like a secure payment option, but I nor Meijer customer service could get the payment to work. Back to using my debit card.

I have only used it twice and it has worked fine. It's early days for me getting used to it but so far, I'm impressed. My only issue is why it took so long to arrive here in Australia. Will update this review as my usage increases.

It's been months, and I still can't use it. Double checked details; card is fine, all info is there, but no matter where I try to use it, I get "Try again. Unable to read card." Would be nice if it actually worked for me.

F70%

Doesn't work on either my phone or tablet. When I try to add a card it immediately shows a nonsensical verification error: "Google is unable to verify that your Android phone or the Android software running on it is Android compatible". Right… Banking apps like Natwest (which has far more functionality) work very well. There's no reason why Google can't make an app better than a bank.

T70%

Would still so love to use it. But someone (Google, Android or my Bank) is holding development. And looks like no one's interested to give the users what they would use on a daily basis if they could.

Great app and nice to finally be able to pay with a phone. The loyalty cards aren't integrated as well as they could be. So far only Tesco seem to have actually bothered to add their loyalty scheme fully. Long way to go but a good start.

WARNING...AIB are charging you extra fees which your are not being told about up front, for using this service. Deleted my card details and have stopped using this piece of expensive technology.

Needs ability to verify payments with fingerprint ala Apple Pay. Also, have had a number of occasions where I select card to use, but upon payment at terminal it reverts to default and puts transaction through. Could be related to data connectivity? Please fix.

Used to think this worked well. At the weekend had an unsupported card message. Had to re-add security info and confirmation from bank again. But still get unsupported card error. Thanks for your reply but I think you've missed the point. Of course my bank is supported as I have been using this in the past, but now I get an unsupported card message even after re-adding security info and bank confirmation. I also have an email from my bank confirming it's set up.

This is a great app and convenient when it works. Some vendors who allegedly accept Android Pay have errors. I've tried this app at 2 McDonald's and Rite Aid with errors. I've used the app at Sprouts and another grocery store without a problem. It's still pretty sporadic when it wants to work and when it doesn't.

Cant even join in?! Some app is blocking access to wallet and requests me to turn off any app drawing over the screen, ov which i know of none. Very annoying no idea how to fix it.

Am disappointed nfc doesnt turn off automatically after use on my s6, like in the iphone 7. Hence the 4 star review.

A good app but I want more control. I would prefer the phone to ask me to approve transactions when it detects one as opposed to auto approving it. I use it only if I forget my wallet but I think it is otherwise insecure due to my reasons stated.

This worked really well but after a Miui and Nougat update it stopped working. Rather frustrating since I got extremely used to not carrying my wallet. I hope it works again soon.

I miss the old Google wallet when I was able to make payments with any custom rom. Are you ever going to allow this again Google? Or else many users will never be able to use tap to pay again

Absolutely gutted. Opened the app and put card details. Got charged and got the message that Android pay do not support my bank. If so then why did u charge me

While it works perfect 99% of the time, more recently there has started to be card read errors on some contactless machines, and when you only take your phone with you because you have a contactless feature and it fails, embarrassment ensues. Untill this is fixed, the app is OK but can let you down randomly

I have it a two stars because I use my card in two different stores today. The transactions went through on my phone for the first store. However, it declined in the second store I went to. I was embarrassed and frustrated. You guys really need to get this taken care of!!!!

E70%
by E####:

Works flawlessly in my experience. Easier than having to dig my card out for small purchases. Also worth noting that a lot of the 1 star app reviews are nothing at all to do with the app itself, but rather the banks' required security protocols. The ignorance of some users is astounding.
