It hardly keeps a stable connection between a Samsung S7 Edge and an Nvidia Shield TV 2017 through Bluetooth. If I leave the phone locked, I have to either restart this app or turn the Bluetooth on and off. The keyboard typing also lags between the phone and the Shield. It would be easier to set up a connection if we could manually input the IP address of the device we want to connect with this app.

E70%
by E####:

It's a great convenience - if it stops trying to be too smart in input. The Android TV default keyboard does not work with hardware keyboards, and now this app fails to work with smarter software keyboards (like HTC's default TouchPal)... Stop doing "a Microsoft"! (i.e. good/great product, retards for UI/UX guys)

M70%
by M####:

I use with my old galaxy s5, iPhone 6 and galaxy note 3. Great as ONLY a remote for my nexus player since it does not turn on/off or control my volume ot options on my T.V.. I have peel remote installed as my Samsung T.V. remote. I would give it a higher rating but All 3 devices freeze when using the keyboard on the device to search on this app. I have to disable the app to restart which us time consuming.

G70%
by G####:

Needs more buttons , Atleast Next, Previous and Stop. Move the home button out of the way to prevent exiting the current activity by accident. Adding a feature to be able to receive audio from Android TV to Android phone to simulate wireless headphones would be nice.

J70%
by J####:

Missing some obvious features. For example, there's no way to switch the TV off or on, so it's immediately useless as a replacement for a normal remote. It really needs to replicate everything you'd find on a normal remote: channel buttons, input switching, more accurate ways to fast forward or rewind video, pop-up menu button... That sort of thing. This is so rudimentary that my old Sony app from 8 years ago is more feature-rich.

Galaxy S5 to Nvidia Shield: Changing my previous review. I hated that it didn't have a volume controller before. Now I dont know if it ever got one because it auto closes with "unfortunately Android TV remote has stopped" everytime I try to use it. Completely unusable. Tried force closing and clearing data. Nothing worked. Completely unusable app. I can't believe that Google would put their name on this..

M70%
by M####:

used to work. why it needs access to location and connections outside my network makes no sense and neither does y'all acting like you're about openness and security when all you've really done is change basic OS security functions to leverage force closing apps to blackmail users to give permissions. sad

I am usually a big Google fan. I do after all, own most Google tech out there and use it day in day out after switching from the apple ecosystem. I own the Nexus player and it is by far one of the most half baked pieces of tech out there with things working some times and not working the rest of the time. I had moved on from the Nexus player because of the half-assed execution of a very good concept and had forgotten about until through a twist of fate I am being forced to use the tech until new tech from another vendor gets here and was quickly reminded of how bad this thing really is. Send me an email if you really don't know what I'm talking about and I'll be glad to write you a book. Disappointed.

The application does not work on either of my 3 cell phones, all different brands. The keyboard is laggy and does not input any text into my Sony x930c TV.

H70%
by H####:

Paired a 3s prime with w800c tv, the rest of the functionalities work awesome but the keyboard is having issues. When I press space, the words that are typed disappear. Otherwise the app deserves 5stars. Please add volume controls.

M70%
by M####:

My TV is cabled to LAN and allocated a different subnet than the WiFi, so this never connects. If I move the TV to WiFi then the HD Netflix forever buffers. Google really need to make a remote app worthy of a £1k TV.

M70%
by M####:

Great app for when you loose your remote or it stops working. The only issue I have with this app is the timing out glitch where you have to reconnect the remote to the device every time your screen times out. Other than that over all great app!

by I####:

This application should work all the time time, but it doesn't. I've come back here a number of times to reinstall the application because it will not connect to my Nexus player and 2017 Shield TV. This has been going on for years. Don't mean to be rude but it's as if Google isn't listening or whoever's been delegated the responsibility to maintain this app simply doesn't care. Just look at the all negative reviews with no feedback.

Oneplis 3 Phone XBR700D Sony Tv Works Great But no option to change input sources. Yeah i still give it a 5. "PS" using through Bluetooth" ----Edit No longer recognize my tv at all.

L70%
by L####:

A simple and functional app that I find more convenient than the physical remote. Unfortunately it has not been able to connect over WiFi for well over 6 months. I've submitted feedback a few times now, although no fix has been supplied. Quite frustrating.

M70%
by M####:

Was working fine up until a couple of weeks ago. Then text-entry stopped working entirely - unless it crashes first, which it does frequently. Is there a fix coming?

M70%
by M####:

Great App from Google. Free alternative of costly remote for sony tv. Issue: keyboard typing is buggy. The moment you press space, previous word goes away.

N70%
by N####:

It's a remote and I can't even control volume. How do you power of the TV? Annoying touchpad pointer speed. On a positive side DPAD AND TOUCHPAD ARE OK.

M70%
by M####:

Either the Nexus player stopped working or the Remote app stopped working because none of my Network settings have changed but the remote no longer connects. Multiple devices everything rebooted. It started sporadically a couple weeks ago and now it no longer connects at all.

M70%
by M####:

Haven't been able to connect to my Nexus Player for WEEKS!! Inexcusable. On both my phone and tablet when I click to connect it refuses to connect.

M70%
by M####:

The app is very responsive, and I dig the touchpad. Nice the way volume buttons auto switch to the TV when in the app and back to you phone controls when you leave. Needs a minor refresh, perhaps a smooth widget with a volume slider. Or some slick icon shortcuts to things like mute and pause. A universal jump back 10 seconds and skip forward with functionality for all apps would be super handy. Also could really use a dedicated mute button on the interface. Update the nav button icons with the times. No more silly house. This is your own app Google, give a damn.

R70%
by R####:

The keyboard doesn't work well with my Android phone, or at all with my iPhone. Makes it difficult to navigate or type things in. Better off using the remote control that came with it .

S70%
by S####:

Wow this sucks on a whole new level. PS the Samsung S8 is a laggy pile of junk don't buy it

M70%
by M####:

Works great on my Sony Android Tv! Incase you haven't figured it out for some users the volume control for the tv are your volume up and down buttons on your phone while in the app.

M70%
by M####:

Cant turn off, lock, change volume.... This app is too simple for a smart tv. I need to lock my tv. Just dont want ours kid watch tv too much

M70%
by M####:

This app is a big let down. Have a look at the KODI Kore app for a reference of what smart TV/media remote should look like.

D70%
by D####:

It worked just fine until about a week ago. The wifi connection stopped, then the Bluetooth - now I cannot get a connection.

M70%
by M####:

The app is nice and works for the most part, but there are no volume buttons, channel buttons, or even a power button! And yes a power button works because the smart tv is always in standby not completely turned off. Without these the remote app does essentially nothing.

L70%
by L####:

The app use to be good but now doesn't connect with my nexus player. Neither using Wi-Fi nor Bluetooth it's basically useless now.

M70%
by M####:

Honestly don't know what everybody's problems are. Great app. Does the job with zero issues. Used on a range of devices with the 2015 nvidia shield tv

N70%
by N####:

Refuses to work without Location and Microphone. All I need is a remote control. If permission is not granted, only those features that directly depend on the permission should be disabled.

R70%
by R####:

Still broken! Never expect anything to work on this app consistently. I swear it's giving me brain cancer.

Q70%
by Q####:

Need to restart the device every single time in order to reconnect. Crappy app. I hate it. The device is great, this app is not.

N70%
by N####:

Used to work ... But now shows the nvidia shield, you tap it and it immediately disconnects and returns to the device list. Using a oneplus 3 android 7 with a 2015 nvidia shield

M70%
by M####:

I'm on the same WiFi network as the TV and the app sees the TV. However, it does not connect and there is no error message to suggest what the problem may be. Hence, the application is useless

M70%
by M####:

Keyboard never works when you use the space bar, it just deletes the previous word you type. (Using the Xperia keyboard if that helps)

M70%
by M####:

Used to work OK and now it almost never recognizes the Nexus by wifi or Bluetooth and when it does it just won't connect and show the control buttons like it used to. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, restarting the Nexus but nothing works. Is anyone else having the same problem?

M70%
by M####:

It's basic. Must have utility. Lacks a lot of features and often has bugs. No use reviewing this app... It belongs to Google.

C70%
by C####:

Android TV is really lacking at this point. Universal search is crap. If you're a comcast subscriber, HBOGO, FX, and several other apps won't work (works with fire TV, and Apple TV though) . The remote app's functionality is basic. And the voice functionality is a joke when compared to Apple TV. All in all, pretty disappointed. Theres potential, but it seems like Android TV is slowly becoming another Google TV or Nexus Q

C70%
by C####:

I'm using this app to control an nvidia shild device. I would love to see an volume control, applications launcher, extended information. This app looks that was made in a lunch break. Can't believe that is made by google. Like someone lost a bet and was forced to make this crap. Google devs, stop playing xbox and improve this app!
