About When to Plant
The When to Plant app from Mother Earth News gives you the best planting times for vegetables, herbs, fruit, cover crops and common companion planting flowers. It uses a database of almost 5,000 weather stations across North America to locate average frost dates for your garden from the nearest station, and calculate the best range of planting dates for each crop.
Main features:
Planting dates are calculated using average frost data for your specific ZIP code, which is much more accurate than relying on the USDA Winter Hardiness Zones system
When to Plant can split cool-season crops into separate spring and fall planting ranges for areas that experience long growing seasons and hot summer temperatures
Full growing information for more than 120 vegetables, herbs, fruit, cover crops and companion planting flowers
For each plant, the app includes advice on the best soil type and sun requirements, sowing instructions, troubleshooting tips, and how to harvest
Multiple display options, so you can see plants listed alphabetically or by sowing month, or choose to view just what can be planted right now in your area
Create a favorites list of the plants you commonly grow for quick access to information

Not what I thought I was getting. I was on a Mother Earth page about their Garden Planner with bed designing and garden records, etc. I clicked the link and bought this before I realized it was just a planting guide, no interaction besides selecting favorites. After further reading, it looks like the first app is for a PC only, and I'm on a tablet with no flash (I still wonder why) so the link went directly to the phone app. The article should be more open about this before the link. Just $1.99 but I'm not happy.

All the info contained on this app is already free on almost every gardening site. It only shows the vegetables and when to start them as seeds and plant them. All of which you can find on your seed packets or in a seed catalogue and the internet.I was hoping for a garden planner or something more. If I had known this I never would've purchased.

I just bought this app and it has NO plants. None. It's an empty app that does not respond to any command. I can't find anything, I can't add anything... it's an empty shell of an app :) Even the interface is not working properly, it does not display completely on my phone. Perhaps it's not meant for the LG4... but it just seems like an incomplete app with no info and no programming in it.

I got the ap and immediately checked the crops to plant in my area. It only showed just 4 or 5 and not even a big variety. I know other crops can be planted but none of them showed up. Bummer.

This really should be a free app. It has very basic info about some vegetables and companion flowers. You can like favorites but there is really no use for the likes other than quick reference. This app would be much better with a garden planner or event reminder. All of this after I had to contact the maker because the app initially wouldn't accept payment when it was first launched. I should have taken that as a sign not to ever purchase.

But It crashed and wouldn't reopen when I added some favourites. I'm reinstalling it. Hope to see it fixed. When I reinstalled it. It now has no plants at all. Reinstalled it again at a later time, and it works perfectly. I up my rating to 4 stars. Taking away a star because of the America only weather forecast. They app takes my location from Google maps, but doesn't use request the google weather api. TBH its not really a problem.

I had no problem getting this app to work exactly as advertised. It's basically a digital reference. Serious gardeners probably already have a scheduling system, but this would save me some research time.

Not useful. Gives you fair raw data, but no tools to manage your garden. 1. You can not sort your favorites in any way: by fruit/veggie, current month, or planting dates. Only gives you alphabetically. 2. You can't add to favorites directly from a list - need to go into each item separately. Annoying. 3. Doesn't sort main list (close to 200 plants and trees) by fruit/veggie/tree/flower, all is in one alphabetical list. This app is a parody of their online app that requires annual subscription. The app is simple and useful, but not necessarily user friendly. No way yo sort your own garden in the list as to what is plantable currently. Only goes alphabetical for every plant. Seems like more of a free app than a 2 dollar one. Do not recommend.
