yes, you need playon on a computer to use this. but its worth it. buy it, install it, add onechannel script, projectfreetv script, and bam! cut cable completely. i dont miss cable at all. not worth it. but playon is a nice alternative. got it on my googletv and 3 rokus.

With the recent upgrade to PlayOn to 720p, I am going to be using PlayOn even more. The PlayOn PC server is still free for all Google TV models not running Jelly Bean, so far only the most recent LG Google TVs require the paid PlayOn server. When used with a PC this provides a way to get free Hulu and some other sites blocking Google TV to your Google TV device. See the PlayOn site for minimm PC requirements.

This would be nice if I didn't have to add a DEDICATED PC to stream HULU (which there is an app for that now so what good is this?) And as for streaming media, just add a DLNA server onto your local network and watch it that way. Another UNINSTALL!

I was unable to watch RedBox Instant. Microsoft Silverlight extension needed to be installed. As we all know MS and Google don't play nice with each other... Silverlight install was a fail... hence, no RedBox for Google TV as of this date. Play On's user interface was designed by a novice. Perhaps they will have an update down the line. For now, I'll continue to use my Roku Player.
