About APCC by ASPCA

Products that may seem safe in your home and garden can actually be toxic for pets, and all too often pets are poisoned as a result of their natural curiosity. That’s why the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals – the country’s first animal welfare organization and a leading voice for animals -- has launched the APCC by ASPCA App.
Focusing on dogs, cats, horses, and birds, the free app helps owners quickly and accurately identify and understand common household hazards, toxic and non-toxic plants, potentially harmful medications, as well as warm or cold weather hazards. It also provides crucial information about the severity of the problem and critical next steps.
Information in the app comes from expert toxicologists at the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center, which handles more than 180,000 cases each year of pets exposed to potentially toxic substances.
APCC by ASPCA Features
- A searchable database of hundreds of plants, household hazards, medications, warm weather toxins and cold weather toxins commonly found in or around homes
- Details for each toxin including: scientific name, alternate names, example images, severity of exposure, and potential symptoms for at-risk dogs, cats, horses, and birds
- Color-coding to help you identify the toxins of most concern
- Dogs and chocolate poison meter
- Built-in rodent poison calculator
- One-touch speed-dialing to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center
As the weather improves, this app is a vital tool for pet owners shopping for new houseplants or garden additions. But all pet parents should download the APCC by ASPCA app to keep their animals safe and far from harm.
Please note that the information is not meant to be all-inclusive, but rather a compilation of the most frequently encountered toxins. As always, if you suspect your pet may have ingested a poisonous substance, contact your local veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center immediately.

This is a great app for owners...rescue groups..adoption groups. Id give it 5 stars but thought there would be more info. Please add more toxic foods and meds. Was shocked at the limited food list. Also please add more toxic houshold items like specific cleaning agents. Lysol killed my kitten. Lastly i would like to thank the ASPCA fir this app. We are lucky to have this app. It isnt free to call aspca poison control....so we need to thank them. ASPCA is a wonderful organization.

Best app in its class. Well organized, easy to use app. Thanks for educating pet owners of so many commom dangers that are commomly overlooked but mostly not even known. Vets should step up and start educating, not any of the vets i have ever visited has ever given this info. Bravo, keep up the excelent work and thank you.

The list of poisonous plants on this app is extremely short compared to what is available on the ASPCA website. Quite disappointing. I don't trust the list because it's not through, and I'm just going to have to use the website.

This app has a lot of very useful information, but the navigation could use some improvement. For instance, let's say my dog ate a tea bag. If I search for "tea", I get only "tea tree oil". I would have to know that tea is Camellia sinensis, and that I need to look in the Plants category, not Food. Also, if I am just browsing through the hazards, the scientific name is given, but the common name usually isn't. For instance, a lot of people don't know that ibuprofen is commonly known as Advil, naproxen sodium is Aleve, and that sodium hypochlorite is laundry bleach. Common names should be listed for all entries.

Nice app! It isn't totally comprehensive, but I imagine that more poisonous items will be added over time.

The list of toxic plants on the website for cats alone is about 50 pages. This app does not even come close

I'm sure since January 2015, there are updates. ASPCA has updates on many things, how about updating this important information on keeping our pets safe?

. ..good app, but needs to go further....The user should be able to search for potential toxin ( i.e. mr. Clean multipurpose cleaner) under household toxins to determine the threat ... not have to search for the individual ingredients by chemical name which aren't required to be listed on the product....

The website is amazingly useful yet this app is very disappointing... There's just not enough plant species, foods, etc on use lists.

Hardly has any medications listed. But is helpful for chocolate toxicity.

I'm adopting a cat and have searched the web looking for safe plants and household hazards. I found this app on the ASPC website. I have numerous plants but I don't know what they are called. Poor pictures or no pictures at all and only a few are listed. It was even worse for household chemicals. I think in this respect this app is dangerous if in crisis and used as a go to resource. Please provide links, more complete descriptions, like listing ACETONE And only showing a plastic bottle helps no one.

This app needs a redo. Much to exact. Recognizes almond but not almonds. Does not recognize anything with a trailing space. If you are about to freak because your pet is acting weird this is not the app for you.

You have plants but nothing about weeds which dogs are more likely to eat.

No way to provide feedback from within the app. Entries not sufficiently detailed. Apples are shown as toxic to dogs. The fruit is fine for the dog. It's a healthy treat. The seeds are toxic. The app entry doesn't explain this.

Hope the list of items grows. Good start! Maybe add antifreeze, different fruit trees. The chocolate scale is so helpful!

Excellent app! My only suggestion is to change the wording on the description. 'Pet poisoning app' sounds like a guide for poisoning, not a poison control guide.

I've worked in the veterinary field for over 20 years. I haven't yet used this app professionally but after taking some time to check it out I will say it's fantastic! A must for any vet, tech out pet owner. To the person(s) responsible a hearty THANK YOU and well done! Easy to use and from my quick research accurate too.
