Rheem earns those low reviews. This app fails hard. It allows me to plug in my WiFi PSK, but seems to drop off the EcoNet AP before the EcoNet gets all the data. I never could get the setup to work on my Moto X PE, but my wife's Blu R1HD was able to get the EcoNet configured. That's an example of how flakey this system is. It takes multiple tries from different devices.

I was excited about Work with Nest feature on my new water heater, and went through the setup steps. Everything was working well until the second day: this app just wont display anything upon launch. Honest, how could you let this happen, Rheem? If your EcoNet service and app are so fickle, how am I supposed to know if Work with Nest actually work? Very disappointed with my purchase now.

Just ok. Wishing the tome zone in the app matched actual time on the tstat...or network time for that matter. Also seems to be some lag between actual temp on tstat and what shows in the app...although humidity and "running" are in real time. I wish it gave more data from the Tstat like running in high or low. Can't get vacation mode to work...won't let me set up a time or dates and actually enter them

Its not an easy app to change wifi routers with and thats frustrating. Needs a daily timer function and more information about its run time, idle time and off time. This is closer to a 5 star app now, your off to a great start working with nest. I'd like to say this thing I bought just for this app shows me how much electricity has been used. Make it pay for itself for 5 stars.

This app is is pretty worthless which is confirmed by the poor reviews. I've been unable to get my module to connect and the app keeps hanging when attempting to do so. I bought my heater for the smart feature... Would not have bought this brand having known this.

Bought this to pair with nest, the app is complete junk. Once paired, it seems to work for a day or so, then it decides that nest is set to away and it won't EVER turn back to home, even if you disable or unpair to your nest.

What a let down. Expected more functionality. Expecting to be able to schedule multiple or recurring vacation events (to compensate for lack of functionality in the heater), query temperatures. App had no option to connect to a network that doesn't broadcast SSID. It doesn't use correct timezone for heater location.

The app is terrible. It's very difficult to set up and loses connection to my equipment many times each week. Very poor job of planning and developing!

As with so many others either the app is buggy or the hardware is lousy - couldn't even get a list of routers to show to pick from. Tried Customer Support and after troubleshooting their only suggestion was to replace the hardware, which was on indefinite backorder (probably a good thing).

They have a bug on the latest version when you unpair nest. Even if you disable in settings when you change temp a nest event notification comes up with a disable feature that does not respond. The only way now to change temp on Econet is on my iPhone which works fine.

Very difficult to connect to router. When it's connected, I may or may not be able to connect due to cloud server issue. Function is limited too. It can be a potentially very nice product, but Rheem's software engineering team screwed it up.

App should at the bare minimum allow scheduling of water temperature for various times of the day. App should be open enough that it can work with Smartthings, Wink, Alexa, Google, etc.. But it doesn't.

Poor app development. Not easy for Layman to connect to home wifi. Can not adjust vacation dates or times. App has very little functionality. Rheem pls spend some resources to QA/QC this app!

Water Heater works well ,the module is affordable and helps with the peace of mind to notify you if there are any problems with the unit but the app needs work it does not track usage properly and does not display the current temp or any of the other sensors that the WH displays on the front screen. Only allows you to change mode and set point of temp

Bad, water heater worked fine until I tried econet. Is no more than marketing. Shut it off, now manual valve no longer works..good job morons

App is very simplistic for Rheem water heater. Not many settings. Temp and vacation mode, that's it. Items that need improvement: 1) During setup I had to make my SSID visible so that the app could find my network. I suggest changing it so that if you us a hidding SSID wifi that there would be an option to type in the SSID then the password. After setup I was able to hide the wifi SSID again and it stayed connected. 2) add advanced options (even at a pay app level) 2.a) Be able to control the water heater based on the time of the day. At a 2 person household where we are at work most of the day during the week there is no need for a higher temp, but during the weekend if we choose to have hot water all day. 7 day temp scheduling. 2.b) Add the ability track when the water heater is on and when it's not heating. We live in Southern Arizona and the out side temp is close to the needed water temp I would like to see that the water heater doesn't need to come on during the heat of the afternoon. Usage trend tracking. ~Mike

App stability is hit or miss. Vacation mode date change broken. Nest integration seems to work. Still would be nice to see more features added and continued support for the app

Paid $25 on Ebay.EcoNet support is the pits. Home Depot was the wrong partner. You can always judge an app quality by the de-veloper answering each and every comment. That shows co-mmitment. The wi-fi device op-erates on 5g not 2.4g. I wonder if that compounds the issue. WOW! Rheem after how negative reviews and years did a half ass fix. I see they deleted their Chinese developer from 2007. So simple to be the king of automation. COMMITMENT! Watch out Montgomery I'm going to visit. BAMA!!

The initial setup and syncing to the Rheem module was frustrating. Once I used my laptop to sync and register my device, it worked fine with the app.

Absolute garbage. Had to change my router and got a new smartphone. So needed to try to set this back up again. It will not work, period. If it even connects (one of 20 times maybe) it will not connect to my router. Says wrong password, even though I did a cut and paste right from the router config page.

Worked well for about 3 months until they updated the app. Now I can't schedule vacation on the app, or the EcoNet web page. The company customer support keeps promising that they're working on it but it's been two months! After spending an hour on the phone today getting kicked from department to department, I repeatedly get "cut off".

So I read that Rheem says they've redesigned the whole platform... Well, let me tell you, they did it wrong! For those who are still holding onto hope and struggling to get this set-up, I'll describe what the app is trying to do. so that you can make adjustments accordingly. 1. The app makes you create an account. So you must have Internet access. 2, Then it wants you to DISCONNECT from the Internet, and connect the the hotspot that the module is creating (called ECONETxxxxx) 3. Once connected to the module directly, it wants you to enter, or rather select your network, and enter your network password. However, it falls short on two fronts: 3a. The module ONLY operates on the older 2.4GHz spectrum, so if your home network is running 802.11a (5GHz), then you won't see it. 3b Also, if you have a hidden SSID, the app/module does not give you an option to enter the network manually. BOTH OF THESE REDESIGNED ITEMS ARE FAILS! 4. Once you've entered your network's credentials, the app wants you to reconnect to the same network you've just entered into the module. It checks to see that it's there, and then you're up and running. Poorly redesigned!

Can't control the fan speed, and the layout on my phone is jumbled up. Come on Rheem, invest a little time and make our purchase worth of the econet worth it.

The app stopped working. It now thinks that my water heater is always in vacation mode. I am unable to control it through the app.

If your not going to add a timer to the module atleast add and alert notification option to the app if the water heater has been running for more than a specific amount of time, I have siblings and they keep forgetting to turn the water heater off even with the app being on all their phones

Pretty bad. Does not show current temperature, only temperature set point and that drops constantly.

Easy install for me. Connected to my wifi first time. I only wish it had app settings that would allow daily temp/time settings.

No capability to set water heater temps by time of day. Only a vacation mode

Could not register water heater with this app, got "cannot connect to server" error. I can see many users give up and return the module. Used Web based and registered right away. This app seems buggy and hangs up/freezes quite frequently. ..another update.. got acquainted with quirks some more. Was not able to increase setpoint even after turning dial to max hottest (yes i waited 12 hrs) until l completely deregister device *AND* remove location and unplugged device from wall to repeat while Wifi setup process. Now web app shows correct max gas valve setting correctly. Android app however shows incorrect max gas valve temp (the value changes with setpoint). The app, setup and process is rife with bugs and unpolished.. i have lots of patience and yes googled around for hints but it still was a struggle for me to figure this out. Oh and app has no option to set schedule.. yet,i believe it should be possible to do this since in future since there is cloud connection.. will give it some more run time and decide if its a keeper or warrants a return.. Update. 4/7 communication error twice already.. unplug econet module, failed again week later repeat. Failed again few days later.. back to store it goes

Vacation mode broken.. just get date picker but can't select date or time

Constantly dropping signal and when does work it(rare) it shows wrong temps

sometimes， it's working fine, but sometimes, it can't even connect to the internet while the others works just fine.

I would have given 5 stars if the app had allowed me to back it up before a factory cellphone reset.

App works fine for me to control an electric water heater. Would be nice to see more features, but all of the current features work fine and Im a happy customer.

The update to the Thermostat "Control Center" is quick and flawless using the app. I appreciate the updates keep them coming.
